Howard to start against Dallas

This is all good. Howard will be a big motivator for the team to clean up their act on D and I think he has looked really good out there. Why we might even see our zone cleared effectively a few times without some dumb ass giveaway! As far as thew lines, Sammy seems to know not to shoot like a maniac when he plays with Z. Somehow, he sort of realizes he isn't the big shooter on THAT line. What a genius he is.

I like the lines, Shuld be good.

edit

Datsyuk, Holmstrom, Kopecky

Zetterberg, Franzen, Filpulla

Samuelson, Hudler, Draper

Maltby, Drake, Downey

Ellis

Centers are messed up pretty bad lol, But who cares, The players are what we are getting at :P

Kopecky, Im 1 of his bigger fans on LGW, and even i dont think he should be on either scoring line, Sure his play has been getting better, But not good enough to warant 1/2 line consideration.

Malts line is great i love that line, 3 consistant checking forwards, when they play together they seemed have a real jump in there step and really crash and bag with alot of intensity.

I don't think I like those lines very much. As odd as it would be to have Kopecky on the first line, I think he's really been one of the few players actualy showing up to play lately, and as Datsyuk is primarily a playmaker, and Homer is primarily a front-of-the-net guy, I think being on a line with those two would be good for Kopecky, especially with how hes been playing recently. Move Franzen to the second line as a 2nd Homer-like player, with Filpulla playing a Dats-like role for Zetterberg, as I see Filpulla more as a playmake than a scorer, anyway (alot of people have been complaining about his decisions to pass instead of shoot, much like Datsyuk during his earlier years). Zetterberg ofcorse plays the scorer. Samuelson can get the priveledge of playing the leader of the third line, and maybe he'll actually be of some use down there. Checking line is Maltby Drake and Downey.

I know it looks unorthodox, but if we're going to fiddle with the lines to this degree and amidst a loosing streak, lets get creative and see what happens. We should be playing desperately against the Stars, anyway.

You know, what you say, and for the reasons you say it, this is something I'd like to see. Yes, it is unusual, but it has merit. Good thinking. It may not be something that would be a good thing to try if we were fighting for every point, but in a slump and with injuries and whatnot, I think it would be interesting.

Sorry, it's late and I don't feel like rereading the thread...

Has anyone brought up the idea that the line changes for today are to boost sale value on a couple players for trades?

Jimmy does Dallas

Babs on why Howard is starting today. No offense is high on his list.

The Wings have played poorly on defense during their skid, haven't scored an even-strength goal in the past three games

Ozzie is not happy (understandably):

Osgood has a 2.31 goals-against average against Dallas.

"I always play good against Dallas, so, yeah, I would have liked to have played, but maybe he [i assume he means Babs?] doesn't know that," Osgood said. "I've been in a lot tougher situations than this before. This happens. We're struggling but ... by no means are we panicking."

Osgood is 1-4-0, including four straight losses, since starting for the Western Conference in the All-Star Game on Feb. 27. He has allowed 15 goals on 61 shots in the four losses.

"I don't feel tired," Osgood said. "I feel good. I haven't lost my confidence. You still feel the same way. You just want to get back in there and play. ... You don't get playing like you want to by sitting there. But, again, I just have to work hard in practice I guess and play. It's not my decision."

 well, OK, then.

Babs on Howard:

Asked about the decision to start Howard, Babcock said: "We weren't keeping it out of our net. And so, Howie's done a good job. Now, starting is different than filling in. So, it'll be interesting to see how he does. ... He's come a long way. He's (got) three years in the organization, and he's earned a right to start."

Cool words by Babs. Matter-of-fact without being nasty to Osgood.

a bit more on Howie and the Dallas game

including some thoughts on the lines today.

Babs is honest:

The Red Wings' next five games are on the road, in two separate trips. Babcock said they need to "freshen it up."

"We've gone from a team that won absolutely every single night and played great defense to a team that is not playing good defense and is giving up way too many goals and doesn't have jump and isn't playing with the same hunger and fire we were," Babcock said.

I have no idea why Ozzie gets protected so much on these boards like he's friggin Steve Yzerman or something...???

But anyways hopefully we pull out a win here and maybe Howard will be #1 till Dom comes back cause i dunno if it can get any worse lol.

Well not protecting but actually by looking @ the facts ... the teams banged up ... 2-3 key players are banged up ... do i think hasek is done? I don't think so ... but i do not see him winning us the stanley cup unless he steps up like alot ... as for howard ... he will probably play good but forget about him leading the team to the cup ... mayB next year but the hell with it lets see how he does today first ... so for now our best chances are ozzie so... ya ozzie is our man for now like it or not ... and yes i do think that he could actually win the cup ...

dont get me wrong my favorite goalie all time is hasek ... but sometimes you just have to see the truth and the truth is that hasek is not the same hasek ... he would NEVER be able to play for a team that surrenders 25 - 30 or more shots a game ... the only reason his still playing at this age is cause the team in front of him is backing him up ... he only need to make 20 saves a game ... and some shots are really dumb shots so ... ya

How can one not "get you wrong'? You couldn't possibly be more wrong about every single statement... so I won't bother to refute them all one at a time. But you think whatever you think, I guess.

Dom's fine. He will be #1 in the playoffs, and the Wings will go as far as the Wings go, hopefully to a Cup.

Howard...never...played for Toledo...

He was there for a week or so but he was there. Anyways, Howard played amazing. Wing's just can't score. They aren't playing desperately enough.
