wings_fanatic 677 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 With this 6 game winless streak, so many people, on these boards, and around me, think the red wings are terrible, that they are now the worst team in the NHL, and basically have no shot at winning the cup. Well, not to be rude, but I am TIRED of hearing this.... And guess what else... in the 2001-02 season, the wings went on a 7 game winless streak... but wait.. I believe they WON the cup that year too... Man, guys, wings are just in a little slump right now, and are about to pick up and be dominant.... Personally Id rather have them lose some games like this, then head into the playoffs thinkin they are above every other team... this way here it keeps things closer, and makes the post-season better for the wings... Seriously.... Wings are still the best, and will always be the best... lets not lose our faith.

We'll see...this team also doesn't have nearly close the talent level of the 01-02 team, and even that team was a fluke goal away from a 1st round exit. I think the young guys (Flip, Kopy, etc.) have hit a wall right now, and their progress has flat-lined. It would also be wise to get Homer off the Datsyuk line and put him with Hank. Franzen-Dats-Huds Flip-Hank-Homer Malts-Kopy-Sammy Downey-Drapes-Drake I think those lines would get a lot done, and right now it wouldn't hurt too much to change things up a bit. Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Good venting. This isn't the Wings anyway. There are 5 Griffins in the lineup (Q, Meech, Howard, Hudler, and Sammy). I don't think any of them will be in the lineup Game 1, Round 1.

Superman54 91 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 did you not see the 2002 lineup we had.... Now I'm not one of those anti-wing fans but this team is missing much more then in 02 I still believe wings have the best chance to bring the cup home and for probably being one of the top 3 teams in the regular season since 02 feels like we are defiantly overdue for the Stanley cup finals This is a different situation, but like 2002, Wings WILL figure this speed bump in time
Dr. Sapirstein 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 The Wings are my #1 team but they seriously lack some toughness. They are one of the softest teams in the league. I believe that they could go far in the playoffs but Holland has to make a move and get a skilled forward with size.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Haha I was just thinking about this earlier. The Wings not being on this kinda losing streak since 02. I remember they kinda stopped playing after basically having the playoff berth/presidents trophy wrapped up with a month left to play. It was horrible and everyone was going mad crazy about them losing just like some of us are now. The Wings will get over this, they always do.

Guest Jeremy88 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 ok...right now if you compared all the teams performance for the last week or two...the wings would be at the bottom. The other teams have found a way to shut us down. that's why we're not scoring. and when we're not scoring, the entire team loses confidence and gives up goals. So many are freaking out, but it's fine this is happening now where Babs can play with the lines a bit and figure out what's going on right now so we won't make the same mistakes we are now come playoffs. wingfanatic4alltime 32 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Now if my memory is right in 05-06 we basically sailed through the regular season i think we only had ONE 4 gm losing streak and how did our season end Oh yeah first round knock out. What im getting at this adversity a 6 game losing streak in the end is not a bad thing plus we do have 5 grand rapids players on the team as was mentioned before. Just be patient with this team im honestly not even close to pushing the panic button.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 NO! I AM GOING TO OVERREACT AND YELL LIKE I'M DOING NOW JUST BECAUSE I CAN AND IT'S FUN! I WILL PANIC! *ends sarcasm* The Red Wings had a 6-game losing streak a few seasons ago in 2000-01 I believe and made the playoffs just fine. Don't see why anything has to be different this time around.
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 right ... a losing streak really isn't about the quality of the team, it's about the quality of the team's play ... if we had lost the same 6 games in the exact same manner but they had been spread out throughout the season i don't think anyone would be panicking, trading half the team, castrating the goalies, and fleeing the falling sky ... the nice thing about a losing streak is that when it's over it doesn't matter anymore ... noone will be talking about this losing streak 2 weeks from now or 2 months from now ... so let's just take a few positives from it -- it magnifies the team's needs and gives the team a chance to fight through some adversity ... VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 The 02 team was only better on paper. This years team was giving that record a run for the money until this little hiccup. Either way, to think the WIngs don't have the best shot at winning the Cup because of a couple game losing streak is ridiculous. I'd be interested to see what every other teams' longest losing streak is, because I remember hearing about a lot of 7, 8, or 9 game losing streaks this season. IT happens, especially when a team is so far ahead. But have all of you forgotten how hardworking this team is? When it matters they will perform, it's as simple as that. And I'm not just hoping. This is what they do for the past two seasons.

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) Haha I was just thinking about this earlier. Of course, they will get past this. Remember the last month of regular season in 2002, when the Wings all went on hiatus because they had home ice sewed up? Scotty knew what he was doing, though - he was resting Dom, Lidstrom, Cheli, Hull, Shanny, etc. I went to the Wings/San Jose game (in San Jose) in April of that year. It was either the last or second to last game of regular season. There were no fewer than seven guys out there who were scrubs or farm kids. I didn't even recognize some of them, and the ones I did recognize scared me - Kuznetsov? Krupp? Ack?? The guy sitting next to me, a Shark fan, kept asking me who they were -- and in some cases I wasn't even sure! LOL~ It was so bad, it was almost fun! The Wings got shelled (or rather, poor Manny did, the Wings didn't even try to win) and the Sharks won big. You would have thought they won the Cup. I pointed out the faithful around me that SJ didn't actually beat The Actual Red Wings. It was Red Wings Lite. Sort of like yesterday, which is no knock on our Griffins boyz out there. If a couple of pucks had bounced an inch in the other direction, Wings could have won it yesterday. Not necessarily deserved it, but a win is a win. They will be fine when Kronner, Raffi, Cleary and Dom get back. No worries. Edited February 18, 2008 by puckloo39
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) With this 6 game winless streak, so many people, on these boards, and around me, think the red wings are terrible, that they are now the worst team in the NHL, and basically have no shot at winning the cup. No one is saying those things. People need to take off the homer goggles and realize that citing a team's weaknesses is not tantamount to giving up on a team, calling it the worst in the league, etc. I can assure you that Babs is not saying to the team, "Oh, it's OK, guys. We've had losing streaks before." Losing streaks should be taken seriously, as they're indicative of bad play and weaknesses. And those things don't just fix themselves. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 "And those things don't just fix themselves. " Actually, a lot of times they do. In all sports players and teams get in a funk with no real explanation. They can do things exactly the same way, and things just don't work the same. Likewise, things will "click" again, likely after a key play or goal.
