Why not to worry about the 6 game slide....

Rate this topic

The wings haven't gone winless in seven games since an 0-5-2 slide that ended the 2001-02 regular season.

If that team bounced back ending the season on a horrible note (which if we all remember, lost 2 more games to open the playoffs) so can this one.

and another reason we still hold a 8 point lead on the 2nd best team in the entire NHL... 21 points over the 8th seed... there is no need to panic.

The way I look at it is this: If the Wings were going to have a slide like this during the season, I'd rather have it now. To kick off a slide like this on Feb. 27th when you're locked in.... well, you're up a creek.

At least now Holland can assess the team's shortcomings (even though injuries are playing a large part of it, it exposes the club's depth -- or lack thereof) prior to the deadline and address them if there are fits out there on the market.

I'm glad they ARE having a streak like this, quite frankly. It's nice to see the team face some adversity during the course of the season since the entire run up to this point has severely lacked it.

I'm gonna have to quote that for truth.

I'm not to worried about the slide, i'm sure the Wings will pull out soon.

It is no secret that the team is in a funk at this time, me I am not worried look whos injured Kron, Ralf and Cleary your # 2 dman and #3 dman of course the team will struggle with out them in the line up does Kenny need to make a move yes we need a scoring foward and another blue liner like Foote or Blake

With each loss it becomes more and more apparent who didn't have to suffer through the 80's... cause this is NOTHING!

100% spot on my favorite post of the past month!!

Not that I'm too worried about this slump (as we are 8 points ahead of 2nd in the league with 2 games in hand), but if I recall, the '02 slump was at the end of the year when Scotty was resting our top players for the playoffs... Today's slump is because we've sucked.

Really, it isn't because 2 of the top 3 d-men are out, or that one of the hardest working and hottest wing as of late is out. It is not because the goalie who was struggling and was starting back to form is injured and the guy who was the best statistical goalie in the league is now hit a cold slump and a rookie with 5 starts for the team has to make emergency starts.

No none of those things, just that they(notice the term I use, I am not a part of the team) suck?

Are you sure of that?

I could have sworn they were the best team in hockey two weeks ago, I could have sworn they just lost a game against one of, if not the, hottest team in the league 1-0, on a stoppable shot that led to a rebound to a wide open goal (sorry J-ho I love you, but you should have had the first shot).

Man I have to learn how to rewatch Hockey.

The thing I'm worried about most is not having any injuries for the playoffs. If Dallas passes us in the standings, then so what? Who the hell is afraid to play the Stars with them having home ice advantage, since their team always disappears in the playoffs anyway? We know finishing 1st doesn't guarantee anything for the Wings either. In fact, if the playoffs started today, we'd play Calgary again in the 1st round, which isn't much of a reward for having the best record. Also, going into the playoffs with momentum hasn't meant much in the past either. I'm still pissed about the losing streak, but since we already have a playoff spot clinched, the streak is just fun for LGW banter.

We do NOT have a playoff spot clinched. LA can still catch us, with 21 games left they can finish with 95 points, which is more than our current 87.

Ummmm......

But that team had names like Hull, Robitaille, Yzerman, Fedorov and Shanahan on it.

This one has Lilja, Lebda, Hudler, Kopecky, Drake and unfortunately, Meech and Quincy on it.

The two teams are miles apart as far as talent, experience and ability to a man.

I'm not worried because the Central still blows. Our lead is almost insurmountable. And we're guaranteed home ice. So in that regard i'm not worried.

But, I also think we're going to get beat if we don't add two, seriously big bodies that play an aggressive game. We're still too soft and too small to get over the hump. That's my opinion.

OMG. Well said!

I still wore my red and white during those dark, depressing days of the 80's but this is SO not like then. Losing 6 in a row was the norm then (or 7, or 8, or 12).

Yeah, but back then this team could provide other means of entertainment by pummeling their opponents. When you suck as a team and you don't fight, then the combination is just awful to watch from any standpoint.

Im still worried..

Worried that even when we get out of this slump, We still wont be ticking on all cylinders.

Im worried about how teams like Van/Calg/Ana/SJ are going to physicaly dominate us in the PO's.

Im worried that we are just a regular season fodder.

got any names to drop?

and what two roster players are gonna get moved?

(im just curious, cause this team definitely needs a crash and banger)

but on the other hand, the Wings pretty much had the same roster as last year and kept up with the Ducks on the physical front,

frustrated Calgary to the point of gooning, and san jose's best players pretty much laid an egg.

i couldn't stand hearing the whole NBC team yesterday explaining how we have been "exposed" i mean didnt Clement say that last year too? its just getting tedious to hear the same things over and over again about how we have a team of soft euros.

HAHA! I did NOT have to suffer through the 80's (seeing as I was born in the late 80's), but I've looked at the records. I'm NOT freaking out about the latest slump, I think mostly because I do know about what happened in that decade. Don't get me wrong, I'm still extremely frustrated by it, but that's not so much the slump as it is the fact that I've finally been able to watch some Wings games on NBC and Verses lately...only to see us lose. It's been horrible because I go to college 30 minutes south of where I live...where I get FSN Detroit.

Anyway, GO WINGS! Let's get out of this slump so the people around here have something more amusing to talk about!

They are professionals, they know what they have to do to snap out of it, especially such a group of veteran players. The losing streak stinks but no point in me worrying about it or losing any sleep, I have no control over it. They are still going to make the playoffs barring a major disaster. I'll start showing plenty of worry/concern if that time comes then if they are facing elimination. Until then they got plenty of time to fix this and get team chemistry back now/after the trade deadline.
