datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 very good news. i didn't think it looked too serious, but what do i know. still, up to two weeks sucks. i wonder who gets the c?
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 It was such an odd thing, because I honestly can't remember ever seeing Lidstrom hurt on the ice before, especially after a hit. Even with Stevie, I'd watched him slide into the post and blow out a knee, and get banged up in other ways. But with Lids, it just hasn't happened really. Glad to hear it's not serious. I'm sure they're taking extra precautions with Nick.
Sevumar 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I hope it doesn't take 7-10 days to get him back on the ice at game time. The good news is that we don't have another game until Friday, so that'll give him some time to rest up.
Redwingsfan18 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Anyone else on here think that if he was hurt for the season, we'd have no chance at winning the cup? Because when he got hurt, I really didn't think it was that bad cuz he was walking fine but in my mind all I could think about was how theres no way our D will hold up without Lidstrom in the playoffs. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 If Meech is gonna play pretend and be Raymond Bourque every night, then Lidstrom can enjoy his time off and be nice and rested for the playoffs. (Well, probably before then, but you get it)
vangvace 12 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) Agreed; sometimes the slightest "tweek" can cause a ACL, and - or MCL tear...Maybe a patellar dislocation? could be... both my acl tear and my patella dislocation cause me to be woozy. The trainer should be able to determine if it was even a partial acl tear in the locker room doing various leg bends and pulls. I wonder if they did/plan on a MRI in the next couple days. (I haven't heard) Edit: no elbow, but maybe a forearm after the initial hit Edited February 19, 2008 by vangvace
The_Cub 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Don't believe I've ever seen Nick get hit like that before. I thought the worst when he got up and almost crashed. Thank goodness its not believed to be serious. Losing him would have been a disaster. It certainly took Babcock long enough to get Downey on the ice though. Clean hit or not you better believe if Joe Sakic or Scott Niedermayer took a hit like that there would have been hell to pay right away. Ian plays the game hard and knew who he was going after. He wasn't born with that nose like it is. It was refreshing for one of the coaches to actually show a pulse on the bench for once though. That instigator penatly made me want to vomit. The Noodle 39 14 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I was quite scared when he got nailed... My first reaction was "@##$%#$%!@#~#!@$@$!!! *sigh* there goes the season." But glad it wont be for too long and hopefully this team continues to play well without him.

For all of the years I have been watching the Wings, that was hardest hit I have seen Nick take. I remember the hit he took against Brown in LA last year, and that does not even compare. The team has been desperate to score, and Nick obviously went out of position and that is what happens. Desperation brings that out.

Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) So I'm guessing that with Nik out of the game, Chelios will be temp Captain? While I think Z is our next Captain, I'm guessing that seniority will take over...? therock48880 14 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 ...I did not see an elbow to the jaw, lets stop those rumors here and now. IF anything, he totally avoided the puck and went after Lidstrom, but the hit was a fraction of a second before Lidstrom kicked the puck with his skate, so if you are fine tooth combing it, it could have been interference, but it was a good hard play. Even if it were interference, that is not dirty... ...not a dirty hit, Lidstrom was caught in a vulnerable position, it happens. Hopefully he'll be back soon... Seems that Downey and Babcock thought differently: Babs: "Obviously, I wasn't very impressed with what happened," Babcock said. "It's a situation I thought our guys responded well from. He doesn't get hit very often and I didn't like the hit, it was high. To me, the league is about protecting the guys' heads. A five-time Norris Trophy winner shouldn't be having to protect his head against someone." Downey: "I got no problem playing the game good and fair. I play the game good and fair. (But) we can't be running our superstars. If you want to have a good, clean, hit, go out there and have a good, clean hit, but when the elbows are up, when you hit a five-time Norris winner, one of the best defensemen to ever play the game, it's a joke in my mind. Best Downey quote: "So my message is simple: The next time anyone runs any of our guys in a way that shouldn't be done, then a message will be sent. I'm not going to go out and run your skill guys, your superstars. I'm going to go right to the guy (who did it), and fair justice is fair justice." http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...valanche_0.html

adamic 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Like I said earlier, I didn't Tivo it. However, from the replays I've seen, it sure looked like Listrom's head jerked to his left when idiot's arm came up. Also notice, I didn't techinically say it was a dirty play. I said it was a borderline play. I did tivo it and watched it several times this morning. Formarm came up and hit Nick right on the chin swiveling his head into the boards. His arm came up at the last moment otherwise it would have been a clean play. It is un natural to put that much force up while traveling forward for it not to have been deliberate. I doubt he got a concussion. I used to kick box and a kick like that forearm is meant to cut the blood off from the brain so you can finish the match. I've taken a couple to the head like that and didn't know east from west, no concussions, though.

Now I know who is going to police the ice when anyone takes liberties with our players. Downey's the man! I was a bit surprised to see Nick get nailed like that, and was trying to remember the last time he got hit, even. He's usually so smooth and tends to ghost out of the way whenever anyone takes a run at him. Goes to show you just how deliberate it was on Lapierre's part, to try and take out the Red Wings' heart. Pronger-ish, IMO. Anyway, it looks like Nick won't be out too long, and I was proud of the guys for stepping up and playing well in his absence last night. Cheli's amazing, by the way. (I haven't heard) Edit: no elbow, but maybe a forearm after the initial hit I'm sure that he'll have an MRI today. Waiting for an MRI as an athlete isn't the same as waiting for an MRI as a regular person. We can usually get our athletes in within a day or two and that's just at the college level. I'm sure they'll go out of their way to get him in as soon as possible. Even though athletic trainers/doctors can determine partial and full tears of ligaments through special tests, they will more than likely still get the MRI to be certain. Even if it is just a minor sprain, we're not dealing with some DIII athlete here. And yes, a certain amount of pain can cause you to feel woozy. I think someone else referenced blacking out as a sign of a concussion...just because you don't lose consciousness doesn't mean you don't have a concussion. There are several other symptoms you look for when determining the severity of a concussion and interestingly enough, loss of consciousness isn't even the most severe one--loss of memory is. Just a little sidenote.
PenaltyShot 96 521 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I worked late and heard all of that go down on the radio. That was bad enough, but watching the replay later was worse. Pfft. What a goon. Downey is my hero! No worries though, Lidstrom is made of the same tough stuff as Holmstrom, proven by his desire to come back in the game lol. He needed a good rest anyway. HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) I am not against good, clean hits but I compare this hit to Laperriere pushing Lids then throwing the gloves down. Why would you want to fight or for that matter, crush a player like lids? It's simple....goonery. The forearm came up because Laperriere wanted to do damage. He didn't have to hit like that. Downey stood up and pounded him, which should be expected. In round 2 I think the reason he got the extra 2 is because, from the way I saw it, Lappy was in the process of turtling and Downey popped him a couple times on the way down. At the end of the 2nd period flip got an elbow to the face....no call. In the 3rd we got a holding the stick call but from the brief replay, I saw no such infraction. I think the refs/NHL are trying to rekindle an old rivalry and the Wings are getting the short end of the stick as the result. Hats off to the Wings for maintaining the level of class that they have by buckling down and getting thier revenge on the scoreboard and not by becoming goons themselves. Inultus 12 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Of ******* course Maudit TAbarnak de calisse de christ de siboir *that's french* We are done, it's over, we can't beat Anaheim without Noriis Lidstrom. I hope Laperriere got injur Seriously dude? Shut the hell up. We don't even play Anaheim again until the playoffs and Nick is gone for maybe 3 games. Why do people like you even post here, just to spread your damn negativity? We will have all of our injured players back by playoffs. We'll be fine.
sinbin 3 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Have you ever seen something and the only words you could process was "Oh, f***." 2probert4 8 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 That definitely sucked. I was in the upper deck right above where he got hit so I got a pretty good look. Really killed me to see Nick groggy and needing help off the ice. I've never liked that thug LaPerriere - now I really hate him. Plus the Avs radio announcer - dickhead that he is - was actually giddy with joy over the hit - sickening. What a loser to get excited over an elite player getting hurt - very classless announcers. "Lappy" of course said he did nothing wrong in his postgame. I truly hope he isn't hurt too bad - the only good thing was that we kicked their ass after that - way to go Wings. The Avs fans were totally demoralized - most of them left during the third period. We need to play 8 games against this team - maybe they can move to our division! Feel better Nick - you are a warrior! Hey AK. was he giddy when Downey beat Laperriere's ass ?
