bringback91 2 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 he will be. nobody's going to claim him. I like Ellis seems like a hard working player, but really just too far down the depth chart to have any real impact on the Wings. At least now he's got alot better shot at getting some real ice time. 58Miles2Joe 12 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 bah, we could've thrown him into the deal for Modry or Blake
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 Too bad, I know he was nothing more than a 13th forward, but I kind of liked him...Good luck Ellis.
mad dingo 6 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 bah, we could've thrown him into the deal for Modry or Blake Not sure why this would be done, but maybe LA requested that Ellis go through waivers as part of a future trade for Stuart. Considering LA gets one of the first waiver claims. Like I said before, I have no clue why something like this would be done.

WingFanInOilCountry 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 "(Ellis) was in a situation where I wasn't using him," "He wasn't fitting in on a regular basis. He'll play in the NHL for a long time because he's so determined. (But) he was getting less and less opportunity here." Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 The Wings would have been best off putting him in the package for Stuart, if LA wanted him. Not that Ellis had any real trade value, but losing a guy for nothing (unless it's Samuelsson) is a pain. Especially since it was only for calling up Hartigan, who is about the same kind of player. No matter. I didn't care that much for Ellis, and if it means Downey stays instead, I'm all for it. Best of luck to him LA, as he should be able to crack that roster. Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) Don't forget that this actually opens up a roster space for any incoming 'rental' player we may pick up before Tues. The front office have a plan in place, this will be a small piece of it, mark my words. If Ellis was asked about by any future trading partner then he wouldn't have been put on waivers. The Wings were hoping he would get picked up. Have faith guys, all will become clearer soon. Edited February 21, 2008 by Andy Pred
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 ...i certainly hope McCarty is worth it! So much for McCarty not costing us anyone in return... Why the hell does everyone think this means D-Mac's coming right up? He's NOT.
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 Why the hell does everyone think this means D-Mac's coming right up? He's NOT. Correct, it means they needed somebody they could send down if they make a trade on Tuesday, and to somebody saying they wanted Ellis to get taken, no they did not...they wanted him to pass through and be assigned to Grand Rapids. skacore 2 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 I'm not 100% here but I'm pretty sure they called up Hartigan because he doesn't have to clear waivers and he is a placeholder until McCarty is ready to go. Ellis would have to clear waivers eventually for McCarty to come up so might as well do it sooner than later. Anyways, it's sad to see Matt Ellis leave the organization with nothing in return but all in all it's a good situation for both sides. Detroit got a couple great years in the AHL out of him and a year of a solid depth role at the NHL for nothing (undrafted) and the type of player he is it just takes time for him to adjust to the different levels of hockey but Detroit doesn't have time or space for him to do that here, L.A. does and I'm sure he'll have a solid NHL career there
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!! I said it here that LA might want Ellis, and was made fun of. He could have been a piece to a trade with them, now if they want one more player at the end of it we will have to give up someone else! They should have packaged him in a deal and offered it before putting him on waivers. Well good luck Ellis.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 I think relating this to McCarty is premature at best. Mac is still out of shape and not fast enough. Babs says we'll sign him but he also says he's only playing for the Wings if he proves he's capable. I recall a certain Russian in training camp who received the same message and never cracked the lineup. The same could happen to Mac. The difference is that I think Mac would stick it out in GR rather than just bailing were that to happen.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 Best of luck to Matty. He was a damn hard worker, and hopefully he gets an oppurtunity to get a lot of playing time and be a regular for the Kings.

I'm pretty sure Ellis is part of a package going to LA, think about it. Why would Detroit waive him? LA doesn't want to pay his entire salary so Detroit waives him knowing that LA gets first crack at picking him up... Holland and Lombardi had worked this out earlier, I'm almost positive. I guess we will just have to wait and see
