I don't think you can compare Lappy and Ulf. Lappy plays hard and is irritating, but for the most part, doesn't cheapshot people. I honestly don't feel like he did that on purpose to Lidstrom. He even said after the game that he really hoped he was Ok. Ulf, on the other hand, tried to take peoples' knees out.

So Moore, had cheap shotted Naslund, in turn this was "what he had coming"

I don't think he deserved to get paralyzed, but a pure sucker punch like the one Tie layed on Ulf would have been fine in my book considering his running of Naslund. Bertuzzi just went the extra mile which was too far.

as much as i hate dirty hits i have to agree with you on how pronger/phaneuf have it coming to them they obviously get away with a lot of stuff i mean i wouldn't want them to get hurt where as death played a role but in a sense where karma has finally caught up to them. i along with truck loads and truck loads of "anti-pronger because hes not on our team fans" do hope that someone puts him in his place before his career is over.

But how is the guy hitting him any better if he cheap shots him. A cheap shot is a cheap shot is a cheap shot. It doesn't matter what your reputation is, or if you "deserve it." If you feel cheap shots don't belong in hockey you shouldn't want ANYONE to get cheap shotted. Getting their ass kicked fair and square is something I am 100% cool with. But cheap shots do NOT belong in hockey at all. That is like saying since you hit our player in a cheap shot and injured him I hate you...but its okay for us to do it to you, but when you do it back to us it won't be cool.

A cheap shot is never cool, and if any Red Wing EVER did anything like that I would be embarrassed as a fan and I think the franchise would be too.

Bertuzzi was not trying to paralyze him he was trying to sucker punch him, same as Domi did, in fact, in my opinion the major injury to Moore came when everyone jumped Bertuzzi who was still on top of Moore at the time forcing him more into him. The sucker punch was what did the deed though.

One sucker punch is okay since he was only kind of injured, but when the other one left somebody severely injured its not okay.

They were both sucker punches, I don't see how one is okay and the other one isn't.

i never said anything about a cheap shot...i should have been more clear with "put him in his place" im just basically talking about a fight where he gets his ass kicked 100% like you said or just a good ol Konstantinov hip check just something to send a message to him where not everyone is gonna back down from this prick and there will be someone in the NHL that will stand up to him and 'put him in his place' in a non-dirty way. a red wing player will NEVER throw any cheap shots to any player like this tie domi video, if one has then my mistake, but the detroit red wings are way too much of a classy organization to do something that stupid we all know that and its something that every team should learn from.

This is 100% correct. While it is too bad Lidstrom was hurt, that was more accidental (unless it comes out that he suffered a concussion) and Lappy is not worthy of any more punishment (also, the Wings are finished with the 4-game series against the Avs). Lappy is NOT a dirty player (though his high stick on Downey was VERY bad judgment), and that was just an awkward situation.

My favourite Pronger Moment is when he broke himslef trying to take out stevie - that was sweet ...I would love it if he screwed the other knee making an ill advised run at some peewee like huds in the playoffs....

AS for retaliation, how many real heavyweights out there could fit into the puck posession style without costing a packet?

Regarding Phaneuf - its not to late to stop him turning into pronger mark II - a nice contract dispute followed by a trade to the wings would work for me - get him into a classy organisation, and he might play with greater discipline

Downey gave Laperriere all that was required in retaliation to the hit. There was no reason to suspend him for the hit, he should have recieved an elbowing call, but I don't think the hit was suspension worthy. And Downey kicked his ass for it. Case closed. Calling for Laperiere to have his life jeopardized over it...not necessary.

Cheers! I totally agree with you and hardcore on this. You can have a gritty, physical and tough game without being beasts. What Dion did last night deserved a suspension. Laperriere will definitly think about Downey the next time they play.

F*ck it, screw cheap shots. I would applaud the crucification of Pronger. Phaneuf not so much, but to see the gap toothed retard being hammered away on, man, it would be P-R-I-C-E-L-E-S-S.

I mean I am totally against cheap shots in the game, there is no place for them. But the saying "their is an exception to every rule" rings very true in the game. And Pronger's punk a*s is that exception, just as Ulf was when he got what he had coming.

For all you bleeding hearts "offended" by the notion a player deserved what he got, ask Cam Neely about ole "Ulffie" and see what the hall of famer has to say.,

This was the exact same thing that Domi did.

You can't pick and choose. Plus you can tell from the video posted earlier, Domi has no problem dropping the gloves with anyone!!! Thus he doesn't really need to be cheap shotted because he will answer the call.

There's a time and place for cheapshots, use em if need be.... how many guys have been kicked out of the league for a specific cheapshot? how many deliberate cheapshots have been taken? on ice penalties make you miss a few minutes, on ice cheapshots make you miss a few games... the game of hockey has a always been like this, use what you have available to yourself to improve your team's chances to win

Major cheap shot and i have to wonder why nothing was done to Phaneuf later by the rest of the Wings. McCarty would of got in there and made Phaneuf answer the bell. Which is exactly why we need him up here pronto.

Yeah total BS man. It seems to me that marquee players like Phaneuf get way to much leniency on the questionable conduct on the ice. I know it's not a fair world but it's getting a little ridiculus already.

He's also the Canadian Lidstrom. Why would they suspend their favorite defenseman? He obviously plays the game as it should be played and to suspend his innovative style of play would be a set back to the game. However, if a player were to do the same to him they would be suspended for intent to injure a national icon.

I wish I were the person in charge of suspensions. Every questionable play would be reviewed and every player would know that plays like that would cost you time and money.
