ESPN hits new low

While TSN had a special trade deadline edition of Sportscentre which followed all day coverage of the deadline called TradeCentre, ESPN once again ignored hockey.

This time it wasn't just minimizing the story, I really mean ignoring it.

The only mention of the deadline occured in the final 20 seconds of the Sportscenter.

They made it the closing number, it literally is an after thought to those sons of *******.

WHY OH WHY CANNOT WE CHOOSE TSN OVER ESPN?!?!?!

eff them.

That would be awsome. While I don't expect espn to have all day coverage like TSN, totally ignoring it does kinda suck. Luckily NHL network aired TSN's coverage.

I don't expect Hockey ever to be number one in America or ESPN to give it all day coverage. I am not surprised by them treating hockey like crap, but I am surprised and pissed they didn't speak of it at all when there was nothing else going on.

There is no excuse.

I say boycott.

I was too, don't get me wrong. I come here for all my hockey coverage. It's all I really need.

Versus is rival to the ESPN, why would ESPN promote game of hockey

Versus and ESPN are rivals when it comes to broadcasting news, therefore its in each of their best interest to promote sports to their highest potential, so "customers" watch their station over the other.

Its kinda like Target and Meijer both selling the same kind of toilet paper, except Meijer in this case ignores everyone with toilet paper needs.

I turned on ESPNEWS when i got home from work around 3pm and they talked about 2 main stories in depth. Yao's injury and the hockey trade deadline. I didnt think they ignored hockey at all. Within 30 mins, they had Barry Melrose talking hockey.

The NHL stiffed ESPN by giving Versus exclusive broadcasting rights. ESPN has rights on every other sport (baseball, basketball, etc). ESPN is not going to showcase something that they have no part of. I don't blame them at all. I blame Bettman for going with a network that nobody has and broadcasts bull riding or cycling after a hockey game. Until ESPN gets some broadcasting rights, they will continue to barely cover the NHL. ESPN isn't going to pay Versus tons of cash to show all the highlights of the evening.

The NHL is not on ESPN because ESPN treated the NHL like crap. Not the other way around. ESPN treated the NHL like crap, and then offered a ridiculous lowball for rights after opting out of the previous deal which was for far more. Bettman then made the best business decison for the league; sign a deal with a station willing to put hockey first, for a decent sum, rather than sign with ESPN for far less and continue to basically condone that poor treatment of the league.

I don't know why this would be a shock to anybody on here. ESPN isn't going to give hockey prime time dedication. Why is this so difficult to understand and to live with? Everybody need to just let it go and let them do their own thing.

They didnt ignore hockey, they just thought Yao Ming's season ending injury was more important :D:D:D

It was front page on there webpage though.. so i guess that counts.

Exactly. ESPN only cares about things that ESPN broadcasts. It's why you suddenly see highlights from the MLS and AFL. They didn't give two craps and a monkey piss about either before they started carrying them.
