Take your shots at the Pad

I have a tendency to believe a hall of fame defenseman more than I would believe the people in this thread asking, no, demanding Lilja's head on a platter.

Fact 1: Lilja blocks more shots than anyone else on the team.

Fact 2: Lilja, when he plays his role, is as good a denfenseman that you will find for the pay

Fact 3: The puck that got shot over the boards last night was rolling, plus he was in the process of going down from a check when he shot it over the boards

The people here that are crying about this play should be more angry that there is no wiggle room in that rule. When a defenseman is falling because they are being checked there should be an allowance made on the delay of game rule. At this time, the refs had no choice but to call the penalty. If this had been a time before that rule was put into effect, then you all would be praising Lilja right now for staying with the puck and getting it out of trouble.

Try this: (those of you that don't own a hockey stick may need to borrow one) draw a line on the ground, place a puck on the line on its edge and try to get the puck to go straight down that line.

Try it on your forehand first, then move to your backhand (Lilja was on his backhand). Now, ask your large-sized friend to run into you at full speed while you try to keep that puck on the line that you drew from your backhand side.

Post your results so we can laugh at you and tell you how much you suck.

Actually, Jesus Christ Incarnated, it's a matter of opinion. I HIGHLY DOUBT anyone on ths thread is saying he should be tossed because of last game ALONE. He turns the puck over TOO MUCH in my opinion, plain and simple. He needs to hit more, and he needs to wise up.

It's the beauty of the internet. Everyone is allowed their own opinion!

I cant stand to watch that video again. What selanne shoulve said in that interview was..."wow, i cant belive he could give the puck up in front of his own net at such at critical time in the series like that. What an idiot (laughs). But then again, it is Andreas Lilja were talking about"

Thank you! No one else seems to notice these things!!!! The see the one bad thing and none of the many good. One person said they didn't see any other D turnover the puck. I guess they haven't seen Meech, Lebda, and Quincey play recently.

I think he's great for what were paying him and people need to chill the F out and stop finding things to complain about, just because we aren't too hot as of late. <_<

Very lucky.

He did drop down and get in the way of the puck. Props to him, saved a goal.

But the puck hit his stick, could have just as easily gone a half inch lower and into the net.

As long as he wears the Winged crest on his jersey, I will be a fan. I cheer my team for what they do right, and don't bash them for what they do wrong. It is merely, "an opportunity for improvement."

I see many opportunities for the above poster.

Of course it had to be luck. God forbid he gets credit for saving the game at that point. I thought he rocked tonight. Instead of taking a penalty he killed them all off.

So what? You make your own luck. If he doesn't go all out, he doesn't make the play.

I dont by any means "bash" my team. I do "bash" lilja, but he is not my team, my team is the wings.

Now lilja just happens to have a good game. In place of the many horrible games he has had. Good for him, hope he keeps it up.

Sorry to offend you for calling his goal saving play lucky

(but it obviously was)

Wait. Did you read my whole post? I gave him props because he dropped down and got in the way of the puck. but then stated the obvious in saying it was lucky because it hit his stick.

I don't care if it was luck or not. He was there when it counted. That's all that matters.

seriously!!

he could have just tried to stick check the guy and probably would have had a goal go in, instead he sold out his body and made a play.

Wait. Did you read my whole post? I gave him props because he dropped down and got in the way of the puck. but then stated the obvious in saying it was lucky because it hit his stick.

And did you read mine past the so what? And I say it again: So what if it was lucky? You make your own luck. As CW said: Lilja's action saved a goal.

And for the third time I gave him props for what he did
