Let's not get ahead of ourselves for Ericsson yet.

Meech though I think is making a serious push for more than spot duty (once/assuming everybody gets healthy again). Him playing solid lately along with both Lilja/Lebda struggling might yield to some healthy scratch changes soon.

ericsson imo is not ready to be a starter for the wings, i was at the game on sat. vs. van he was very noticeable and not in a good way he needs time and skating conditioning, i don't know what the deal is against lilja he has stepped up considerably in the absence of our d corps..... lilja gets HIS job done IMO

Lilja takes too many penalties and tends to make costly mistakes at the worst times. Having said that, I like Lilja. I'd like to see more of Ericsson, too, but the kid needs time to find his legs and his confidence. I wouldn't put him in for the playoffs, but start him off in the lowest pair next season.

But everyone here has been bitching time and time agin for more grit, more size. You add Stuart who is top 5 in the NHL for a nasty hitting defenseman with a pretty damn good point shot. So if people ***** about grit, and a hitter, why go with Meech who is 5'11 and 197, over Ericsson who is 6'4 209 with an unbelievable slap shot.

So if getting the job done is turing the puck over in game 5 and cost them that game, and taking an ill advised penalty in tonights game that cost them another game well then Bravo he should be a Norris canidate.

Keep in mind, until the end of the regular season, there are only 23 available roster spots. Cleary is out until April so we can probably assume he won't be back before playoffs. McCarty has to be called up from his conditioning assignment in 2 weeks though. So once everyone but Cleary is healthy, we're going to have:

Goalies--Hasek, Osgood (2)

Forwards--Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Filppula, Franzen, Samuelsson, Draper, Maltby, McCarty, Drake, Kopecky, Downey, Hudler (13)

Defense--Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Stuart, Lebda, Lilja, Chelios, Meech (8)

Hartigan, Ericsson, Stafford, and Quincey can be sent down to GR without having to go on waivers, the others cannot. So unless the Wings are prepared to possibly lose a player for nothing, Ericsson won't stay in the lineup.

Meech, as some have already said, is making a strong case to stay in the lineup on a regular basis.

So we should wait to get ahead of ourselves? Bring on Big E and Meech, drop the 2 L's.

No Meech has a 2 way contratc. Hell send Lilja down to Gr, I hope some idiot gm takes him on the waiver wire before he clears.

Ericsson did play shakey at times, but showed some good things. If he's paired with someone a little more reliable, he should play a bit better. He's been thrown to the lion's den in his third game (I think) with no real good help defensively. I'd like to see what he could do where there isn't as much pressure to perform and we have Lids, Cheli, Rafs and Kronner back. Hell, even Stewie. Who knows though, I could be totally wrong.

edit - forgot Rafalski

If I was babcock, on the next road tip. I would stop and a sip and gulp, ask Lilja to go get the team some slushees, and when he walked into the store I would drive off. Hopefully its a road tip to like Calgary. Then they can make a tv series called "The adventures of Andreas Lilja, the trip back to the Joe." Then the Redwings can go into the playoffs with one last albatros on their back.

A two-way contract is not the same thing as being waiver exempt. All a two-way contract means is that his cap hit is less if he is in the minors.

Salary, not cap hit. A player in the minors has a cap hit of zero, even if his actual salary is $8m.

Because overall Meech has looked better than Ericsson in these recent games.
