58Miles2Joe 12 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 Am I the only person who remembers how bad he was before we bought him out? We bought him out for a reason, and it showed in CGY. I'll be the first to cheer if he's recaptured some of his youthful piss and vinegar, but it sounds like he's gotten mature and healthy-minded instead. Sadly, you don't want that in a McCarty-like player. My expectations = 0.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 Yes but just based on his side he has an immesne advantage over drake. Ive been in well around ten adrenilined fueled and your body just natrually knows how to scrap when pissed or thretned enough. Drake may be better pound for pound but I would bet on Bertuzzi a hundred out of a hundred times. Did you bet on Fischer when he fought Thornton?

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 He's still strong, I'll give him that but he's gonna have to prove he can beat Drake before I believe that. Drake's been fightin' a long time. Actually I can't remember Drake ever having as much fights as he's had this season, and he hasn't fought for a long time now. Here, he was the only guy in the lineup fighting early on in the season, but with Downey dressed, he's refrained from doing it anymore.

Without looking it up, I believe Drake's career high for fights in a season was 3....so you are correct, he's never been much of a fighter. But that was a role he assumed here because he was playing so poorly. After he fought Mayers i thought he might get back in the swing of things since his face is healed, but hes been a real letdown in the second half. Bertuzzi would beat Drake, wouldnt be an ass kicking as thats not Bert's style... he's much more of a grappler. Short fight with Bertuzzi landing a couple and wrestling him down. Kopecky is the guy I'm calling out every game. He destroyed someone in his only NHL fight, yet he seems to have developed some kind of guilty conscience since then. They should just send him to LNAH to develop some kind of mean streak. Him and Hudler. On second thought, sending Hudler there wouldn't be such a good idea. Hopefully when he realizes a 4th liner is all he'll ever be he'll start scrapping some more. Guilty conscience? Sounds familiar...he's definitely been spending too much time with Lilja I thought Drake was supposed to be Kopecky's mentor or something, at least thats what we heard when he was signed. Yet Drake has 5 fights while Kopecky has only 1.

Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 I love how ppl are so excited that hes returning and all. But u think there would be better things to talk about like us losing the last 10 of 11. McCarty is a piece of washed up s***, thats only coming back because he has no money. By the responses of ppl on this site u would think he's the equivalent to sidney crosby. Shouldn't you be out on a ledge somewhere? Of course he's not the great white hope, and nobody's saying he is, but he will add a shot in the arm that this team needs right now. He plays with heart and will add grit and excitement when on the ice. You and all the other natterin' naybobs will just have to see for yourselves. As I recall, a few months ago this whole comeback was impossible and would never happen. Guess that didn't pan out either did it? He's come this far against all odds, and with a lot of people saying how impossible it was, I bet that he can go all the way, even though you don't think he can. Your lack of belief is not going to change his reality. Am I the only person who remembers how bad he was before we bought him out? We bought him out for a reason, and it showed in CGY. I'll be the first to cheer if he's recaptured some of his youthful piss and vinegar, but it sounds like he's gotten mature and healthy-minded instead. Sadly, you don't want that in a McCarty-like player. My expectations = 0. You're comparing apples and oranges. During his last year in the NHL he completely lost his focus, heart and drive. His mind was not on the game, it was on things that were destructive to his life. Of course that played out on the ice, what do you think would happen? His life would go down the tubes but his on ice presence would be exemplary? Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way, when one area of your life goes down it takes the rest with it. The Mac we are seeing right now is not the Mac we saw in his last year with Calgary. The Mac we are seeing now is the Mac we are used to. The one with heart. The one with focus. And the one with the drive to do what he needs to do, and get it right. Sure he's not the Mac of the 90's physically, he's put on a few years. But I think he's the Mac of the 90's in spirit, and I think we are going to see that for the remainder of his days as a Wing, however long that may be. The mac of the 90's was a 3/4 crazy, testosterone-filled party animal; he was so mindlessly confident he started a grunge band, fer gawds sake! Recently, after a Griffins game fight he said something like "I still have that crazy part of me", but in the 90's that wasn't part of him, that was him. I just have serious doubts that a man with a new sense of peace will be the animal it takes to impact as a grinder in the NHL. He might get to the NHL, but impact seems an improbable pipe-dream. I hope I'm wrong; I like the guy. btw, anyone know if he got to keep his Cup rings? I saw they were up for auction at one point.

Ah come on man, have a heart. Mac was and still is a crowd favorite. It's great to see him making a comeback and turning his life around, hockey is secondary. Wings fans want to show him support. We're paying him the League Minimum, and he'll probably be rotated in and out of the line up with Drake and Downey. It's a no risk signing.
