I like his game and I like his attitude, he's one of the few smallish agitators that will drop his gloves regularily. He's like a Maltby, but without the cowardice. Well put. If you want intentional hit by a walking A-hole you need to Youtube the Claude Lemieux hit on Draper in 1996. The guy is a solid third-fourth line hard hitting player. And as some have pointed out pretty "old school". Some of you people need to get over it - he did not mean to hurt Nick. In fact, I hate to say it, but the Wings could use a guy like this on our 3rd/4th lines. "I thought it was a clean hit. So did the referees, and the replay," said Laperriere, who was not assessed a penalty. "I respect Nick Lidstrom as a player, and hope he's not hurt bad." I just don't see why the next time we play them anyone on the Wings should act like it never happened. If we hit Sakic like that, divealanche fans would be screaming for the player who did it to be retaliated against at no less a cost than what I'm asking for. Im with GMR on the revenge aspect of it, (not that i'd want his neck broke) but im still able to appreciate and respect a player like him even while i want bodily harm inflicted at the same time. Johnson hit a star player of the Avs, Laperriere was doing his job holding Johnson accountable. Laperriere plays a hard physical game. I seriosuly do not understand why people are acting like drama queens trying to find something wrong about this and making this a big bruhaha. There is no hypocrisy. The only reason why people are moaning over this is because OMG LAPERRIERE HIT LIDSTROM! LAPERRIERE BAD! Which I perfectly understand and get, but a lot of people are reaching a bit too much in the cookie jar to find something terribly wrong about Lappy outside of the Lidstrom scenario. There's nothing to reach into. Hmm, have you considered being Laperriere's lawyer? You should try for that. Next guy explains it perfectly. The way I read it... First quote: "I didn't do anything wrong! Why did Downey come after me?! It doesn't make any sense!" Second quote: "I don't care if he did or didn't do anything wrong, I'm gonna pound him!" Basically, the hypocrisy comes from his second statement directly contradicting the first. He thought he was innocent with the Lidstrom hit, therefore the "commotion" was unwarranted. However, he displayed apathy as to the legitimacy of the hit on Smyth (clean, not clean, who cares?) and felt that a "commotion" was appropriate either way. So, simply put... He doesn't think his hit on Lidstrom warranted a "commotion". The hit on Smyth, apparently, did. But that's just the way I see it. Thank you... that is how I saw it too, and unless you are a huge Avs fan then you should've seen it that way as well. "I've been hit before, but his elbow came up and my head hit the glass," said Lidstrom. "I don't think I've been hit like that, maybe once or twice like that before. Not too often. I've been hit really hard, but not the way I went into the boards." Chelios said it was dirty hit too. “Well it was clean until his elbow came up and caught him in the jaw. The whole reason why Nick got hurt was because he hit his head on the glass and what happens often to a boxer is you get hit in the jaw and your legs go out on you, and he twisted his knee on the way down. It was clean initially but the fact that the mark on the jaw was proof and the fact that he hit his head off the glass, I think it would’ve been two minutes. I understood is as Laperriere saying he didn't get all the hoopla about 'ZOMG DIRTY HIT!!', not that he didn't understand Downey avenging a hit laid on his captain. There is a world of difference between those two interpretations, as one makes him a hypocrite and the other is completely consistent with his later comments. He is usually keen to not being so vulnerable. I also had flash backs to smokey in Friday standing over lids says, "You got knocked the f*** out!" *shrug* at least he will be healthy shortly.
