Favourite Coach of All Time?

Rate this topic

Is Scotty Bowman the unanimous choice? I'm dead serious, this is not only an observation of your favourite coach ever, but moreso an observation of how many people would say somebody other than Scotty.

Nonetheless, who is your all time fave?

Don't think anyone has quite the resume that he boasts

Well yeah, but I didn't say greatest coach ever, I said favourite coach ever.

I mean I like Babcock. But I cant say that I prefer him or anyone else other than Bowman. Sorry I cant be creative tonight.

Bowman. But seriously, I like Babcock because was ready to take down Tony Granato.

What else do you look for in a coach?

Besides coaching skills....

Hmm, then I think I'll go with Bengt-Åke Gustafsson. But hey, if we win a Cup real soon I'll prolly change my mind. I'm very fickle.

Poor Wayne, he always looked so sad. :(

You'd be sad too if you had the best running back to ever play the game, but you couldn't get an O-line that could block.

It'd be like having one of the great offensive talents of his era, say Gaborik, but stifling his abilities by placing him in a defensive system.

Bowman.

Not just because of his resume, but also because of the way he handles himself. He can bring the best out of players, and bring out parts of their game they didn't know they had. i.e. turning Yzerman from a natural scorer into a defensive minded, well rounded leader. On top of that he has fire. When Mark Crawford, who is at least 20 years his junior tried to get lippy with him on the bench, what did he do? Leaned over like he was about to rip his face off and dished it right back. To polish it off he's got a subtle sense of humor about everything, which is hard to maintain when you spend so much time being serious in the leadership role.

No. 2 for me is Babcock.

Lol, certainly seems biased, but Bowman is a clear first, and while he doesn't have the hardware and history, Babcock reminds me of him in many senses so naturally I like his style too.
