55fan 5,133 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 This makes me happy. Reunite the Grind Line, then when someone is asking for it, send out the D Line (Darren, Drake, Downey) to put the fear of the deity or non-supernatural entity of your choice into the opposition. Alternate sitting Huddie and Koko and tell them whomever does the better job now gets to play with the big boys in the playoffs. Oh, Mac, my Mac. Best wishes to you. I couldn't be happier for you. I'm gonna go get a tissue now......
LeftWinger 5,140 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 he better be in for downey... im tired of seeing downey learn to skate each night. all he can do is fight, if he doesn't slip and fall. McCarty has skill, hands, and ice-sense... oh, and will fight. Downey should go back to the minors and learn a new, more-valuable dimension to his game that McCarty already doesn't do. ...anyhow, I am happy for Mac from a personal standpoint and the Joe will be electric the first time he steps on the ice in front of the home fans. Makes for a great NHL perseverance story. In all seriousness though, is Darren McCarty the man you are hanging your playoffs hopes on? Does this address your secondary scoring issues that more than likely will dissappear in the playoffs again? Yes the Wings have played and looked better the last 2 game and sure he will provide some spark for the fans, but how much is he really gonna help your team? ...with that being said, they should sit Hudler, he is invisible out there and they could put the Drake/Kopecky/Downey line together and plug McCarty in with Draper/Maltby and they would have have two hard hitting, grinding lins along with, dare I say, two scoring lines, although I am still very skeptical about the secondary scoring issues... Holmstrom/Datsyuk/Zetterberg Franzen/Filpulla/Cleary(when healthy) Maltby/Draper/McCarty Drake/Kopecky/Downey ...notice I left Sammy out of the lineup, I know this won't happen, so Babcock is gonna have to plug him in somewhere. Probably makes Drake the 13th forward and move Franzen down to Kopecky's line, but I think he has played well enough to be get some #2 line playing time. Oh well, either way that's your playoff forward lineup (unless for some putrid reason they keep Hudler in there.) Good luck Wings, in my opinion that just is not gonna get you a Cup, but hey, you cannot win it every year and like we've discussed, you cannot be raped by a desperate team in order to secure your 2nd line scoring, and Fedorov wasn't even a lock for that. Wings fans will have fun watching, but it will end with dissappointment unfortunately, if it doesn't, then good for you!

96warrior 11 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 From Kuklas Korner: Darren McCarty is coming to Detroit quicker than expected but not to play. McCarty is bothered by a rib cartilage injury suffered last weekend while playing with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. He will be examined by Wings trainers Friday and will not be on the ice. General manager Ken Holland said trainers will determine whether McCarty is able to play with the Griffins Saturday in Cleveland. McCarty was held out of Thursday’s Griffins game in Milwaukee. “We’re going to see if he’s able to play,” Holland said. “Right now, he’s not able to play. It’s nothing more than day to day.”

Have you been watching the same games as the rest of us? Downey has done exactly what he needs to do, and done it right. I'm all for McCarty coming back, but we haven't even seen him play in an NHL game this season, let's hold off s***ting on Downey until we see how this pans out... Unless theres a big turnaround, McCarty is no longer an enforcer caliber fighter....Downey is. Swapping him in for Drake is the obvious answer, since its not really likely that Kopecky or Hudler would be scratched.

Swapping him in for Drake is the obvious answer, since its not really likely that Kopecky or Hudler would be scratched. Exactly my thought process. In no way should Mac replace Downey. Downey is the best we have when it comes to dropping the gloves(unless we're talking about D-Mac in his prime). Drake will most certainly be the odd man out. My expectations have risen for McCarty of late. So I would imagine that Mac will bring more to the table than Drake can. We'll soon find out. And I can't wait. It's gonna be great to see number #25 out there again. Grindline reunion maybe?... -Ian
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Oh you're right I forgot that success in the AHL always and I mean always equals success in the NHL right ..... Soo....we SHOULDN'T bring him up because he's playing well, is that it? Then what's your criteria for "bringing a player up"? Him NOT playing well in the AHL? Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I say sit kopecky, his play lost the physical edge lately. and downey needs to play more.. McCarty Downey Drake I want all 3 of them in the lineup vs Nashville. I hate Nashville so much, moreso than even Anaheim I think. 1. McCarty fights Hordichuk 2. Downey fights Tootoo 3. Drake fights Nichol 4. Brad Stuart rocks somebody, doesn't fight but at least gets his nose dirty. Please hockey gods, make it happen!

LeftWinger 5,140 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I can see this,but......right now ,unfortunately Sammy is in and later, Kopecky is out. The Grindline is back, babeeee! ...well I have a feeling that Kopecky will play and Drake will be out if that was the case. But Drake does have the more playoff experience, but Kopecky can net some goals better than Drake. It's a toss up! But you Wings fans are gonna be dissappointed either way I believe... I hope not though! Opie, I tried to re-apply for my card, but the Wings denied me. I am on probabtion until Fedorov is either signed by Detroit or by someone else and he is no longer available! dallas27 7 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Blah, blah, blah. He will never make it back to the NHL level. He is washed up. I loved him but lets let it go. All things I read a couple months ago, debates I had. I am just saying I have eaten crow before no it is all you Mac haters turns. Get your fork, crow is served. I could not be happier! He will be great. GO MAC!!!!!!!!! I am all for Mac returning but don't tell all the Mac haters to eat crow quite yet. I'm sure this is mostly the Wings wanting to give Mac, who's been through some tough times, a second shot just because he is Mac. Don't expect him to be scoring goals or anything remotely close to that. He's going to serve his role which will be just like Downey's.

cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) There is an article on the wings site about Lidstrom coming back soon, and D-Mac visiting the Joe to meet up with the players and all that good stuff (along with other less important things): http://redwings.nhl.com/team/app/?service=...rticleid=356202 I like how the reporter copied down Hasek's statement word for word - “I was surprised when I see him,” goaltender Dominik Hasek said. “It’s been a long time. Everybody’s excited. It’s very special to have a player, a person like that back in the locker room.” Hahaha. Edited March 7, 2008 by cirov19
