2007-2008 Frank Selke Trophy Voting Results

Rank Name Team Points 1st-2nd-3rd-4th-5th

===========================================

1. Pavel Datsyuk, DET 537 (43-9-7-3-0)

2. John Madden, N.J. 447 (18-18-16-17-10)

3. Henrik Zetterberg, DET 425 (22-20-6-10-5)

4. Patrick Sharp, CHI 290 (10-14-13-8-3)

5. Mike Richards, PHI 220 (10-6-6-13-9)

See this is why I don't really like the NHL's voting system, technically Z should have finished second, he had the second most first place votes and he had the most second place votes, yet Madden who had meh number of votes at best finishes second. Technically Madden could have had all of the second place votes and Dats and Z split the first votes and Madden could have won, how does that make sense, it should be first place votes and in result of a tie second place votes or each voter has one vote to assign to one player!

I had a feeling there would be a "split" for the Wings' players -- just happy one of them won it, without them going 2,3. Unfortunate that Zetterberg did end up being bumped by it though.

Datsyuk will not win the Selke. Realistically, he shouldn't even be nominated. It is a trophy for BEST defensive forward. Not most improved defensive forward or most improved two-way forward, both of which Dats can make an argument for.

Lol.

Check out the paws on Dats!

Yeah, seems like he's got spider fingers. Never noticed that. Maybe that's one of the reasons why he's so ridiclulous with the stick handling.

There's very few images of him that don't really emphasize his candy corn-shaped head. But we love him anyway. And yeah, he does have great hands, I was watching a video of him on YouTube playing keep-away with Trevor Johnson and it took him 3 seconds to get the puck from him. Granted Trev isn't a professional hockey player, but that's how ridiculously quick he is.

I always thought he'd be a great musician with those hands.

I would say something else, but I best not.

Can I get away with saying he looks damned good in a tux??? :)

His head/facial features kinda resemble E.T.'s. :P

Absolutely agree that Pavs should have won it this year for regular season play (yeah I was one of the first posters on this thread to call it as well) ..... but Hank will be getting a closer eye this coming season with his efforts on that incredible 5-3 kill in game 4 against the Pens. That was absolutely amazing.

What an amazing accomplishment by Dats to win both the Lady Byng and the Selke; shows everyone you shut-down the opposition and still be a gentleman!

Now as far as whether Dats was actually the best defensive forward in the league, consider this. The definition of defense is preventing goals. When you have the puck, the other team can't score. When Datsyuk is on the ice the Wings seem to always have the puck, and when they don't the best defense is to get the puck which is exactly what Datsyuk does virtually every shift. You can't ask for anything more.

YEAH PAV!

And YEAH GS&T! I love being right about everything all of the time!

And whomever said that some people around here are just irked off because its not so clear cut that Z is the #1 forward in town, truer words may have never been spoken.

Datsyuk, Datsyuk, Datsyuk!!!!!!

Does this even make any sense. How can it be a fact if its only probably true?

And yes, Datsyuk is the best defensive forward on the team for basically the same reasons Lidstrom is the best defensmen on the team (and world for that matter)

Specifically, the effortless nature to which they employ their defensive brilliance and their fantastic control of their sticks.

Dats doesn't get love because some people are just convinced that Zetterberg is better (that would be you eva, he who claimed Z was the greatest and was going to put up 130 pts this year or was it not you projected that in the first 2 months of the season?) Anyway, my point is you act like Z gives you money for or some s*** for all the glorifying of him that you do.

If takeaways aren't an indicator of your ability to defend then I don't know what is and nobody touches Dats.

Also, Dats ability to keep the puck away from others is not necessarily just an offensive skill set. His ability to keep the puck out of the hands of the opposition can be looked at defensively as well.

Zetterberg just looks like he's working harder and frankly, he is working harder because he's not as good as Datsyuk.

And yes, Dats is still leading Z in points like I said he would long ago. More gifted offensively and defensively as well. :P

Posted 3/11/08. I rule. Where's EVA with his statistical analysis to show that the people who voted for Dastyuk all belong in the loony bin. Wasn't it EVA that said Datsyuk had NO CHANCE to win it?

They don't have the balls to eat crow.

I will say this, all those who blathered on and on about Datsyuk's PK time need to come back here and eat some crow.

People used Datsyuk's lower PK time as an argument against his defensive prowess. Perhaps they should've thought outside the box and maybe then they'd have realized that with so many good defensive players on our team, why would you burn Datsyuk out with top PK minutes when you have Draper, Flip, Matlby, Drake, Franzen, Cleary, Z, etc....It wasn't necessary for Dats to have top PK minutes on this team. He got the minutes Babcock felt he needed for the team yet kept Datsyuk fresh to run and gun after a kill when the other teams top forwards had just been out on the PP. Babs is smart. And Datsyuk is the Selke king for now. Minutes, schminutes!
