What's that player with the big shin pads doing in front of the goal? Is that allowed? Where's the goalie???

Nice......funny thing is, that game wasn't even all that long ago, I'm guessing around 1980. Okay, so that's awhile ago, but at least in my life time, we're not talking about the 50's or 60's here. No reason why goalies can't still be that size.

The big difference I notice is the announcers --> here they are joking and laughing it up while if something like this happened today you would hear:

"Oh, this is a black eye for the sport of hockey."

"This type pf behavior is just disgusting; I have never seen anything like this in my professional career."

Man, you're not kidding. When the goalies were in the crowd you couldn't even tell them apart from the skaters until the camera panned down to the (tiny) leg pads. Nowadays when the goalies are out there in the crowd you can't even see the other players behind them.

The reason my top 10 fighters of all time mostly come from that era is because that was the toughest era of fighting, and I doubt any enforcer now could hack it in that league.

The game has changed a lot with this stupid instigator rule and the constant veil that's around hockey fights, to the point where the violence is sustained.

my favourite quote: "the two toughest goal tenders in the league".

like, yeah, there were more than two...

back then the refs were not as hurried to break up a scrap. Hell, i remember back playing in rec leagues in the late 80s refs would let the guys just tire themselves out. tough guys showing their mettle.

tootoo would last about .03 seconds in the hockey way-back machine

I would love to witness something like this and know that hockey is still alive like it was before. Still fast paced and physical but I was born a bit later than this and have barely seen anything like it.

As for the time of the fight shown in the video above: April 17, 1980. It is footage from Game Two of the 2nd round playoff series between Long Island and Boston at the Garden. The Isles won that game, 5-4 in OT. The brawl took place just after the end of the 1st period.
