redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 is anyone else disgusted by the ridiculous celebration that ao does everytime he scores? the whole pounding the glass thing and jumping around just pisses me off. i'm not trying to take away from the fact that he is a very talented player, but it just seems like he needs to act a bit more mature. maybe i just feel this way b/c i watch and cheer for the mighty red wings. when our guys score they just seem to congregate, congradulate, and get right back to work. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) He'll get over it eventually. By the end of his career, Brett Hull didn't even raise his stick after scoring goals. I don't think Ovechkin is trying to show the other team up, and he's not doing any planned celebrations like those jackoff wide receivers in the NFL always do. So it's fine by me. These are all off the cuff, and there's no taunting going on. It's just AO being really excited about scoring and showing it. I absolutely love the emotion he plays with. Not just when he scores, but like when Backstrom put the puck in their net. I have a gigantic man-crush on Ovie.

Class! Edit: just want to add.... best player in NHL atm??? What you think? Uh-oh. Don't start that argument in this thread. It's as bad as PS3 vs. X-Box 360 arguments. I will say though, that there is no player in all of hockey more entertaining than Alexander Mikhaylovich Ovechkin. I don't care who's better right now. #19=Legend 29 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I was going to start a thread like this. I personally hate it. I notice that his teammates try to congradulate him, and get in on the celebration, but he skates right on by and does his own celebration. Dont get me wrong, I like AO, but his goal celebrations disgust me.
cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 (edited) I love it and I can't even understand why it would bother somebody. He clearly doesn't do it to brag or taunt. It gets us going as fans. I wish there were more players who went insane when they scored... although they'd have to be younger. Picture Pronger doing that. It's like Steve Yzerman goal against St. Louis in game 7 of the semi-finals in whatever year that was.. (96?). As long as Ovechkin is doing it while he's still young it's still amazing. Good point by GMRwings1983. PS. I love'd Stevie Y's celebration on that goal. Edited March 14, 2008 by cirov19
DYags 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 (edited) I love how Olvie celebrates but I think if more and more players strarted doing it I wouldn't like it.. The way hockey players celebrate by coming together and tapping helmets is just so unique and goes to show what true professionals they are. They don't push team mates away to clear space while they do a dance they've been working on all week Edited March 14, 2008 by DYags
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Ovechkin love to score. He loves when his team scores. He loves to play hockey. He is a very refreshing athlete. In a era where you have a-holes like Barry Bonds (the whole steroid argument aside), Allen Iverson, Koby Bryant, and T.O., to see a guy wear his heart on his sleeve EVERY shift makes you realize there are guys out there who still love what they do. Besides, Ovechkin is just as animate when something bad happens. Anyone else remember his reaction the Semin scoring in his own net, and all but ending the Caps playoff hopes? He is a true leader. All skills aside, he is the type of player you want on your team, no questions asked.
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I gotta say I love it. Actually, I dont know if its cuz they score so often, or are part of scoring plays, but everytime AO and Crosby score the reaction is the same. For AO: everytime he scores, he jumps turning mid air slaming against the glass. For Sid: He hunches his shoulders lifts his arms 3/4's, and opens his mouth screaming as wide as it can go. I'll try to hunt for a picture. Once you see it, you can only say, 'oh yeah.'
redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 k i guess im in the minority here. i just think its kinda classless. and i totally think he does it to shove it in the face of the other team. yzerman was a classy player, and that goal was a hugely important goal so i can understand celebrating a ot gamewinner with a big celebration, BUT doing it everytime makes u look like a tool in my opinion. whatever i love hockey so if ao and sc can get more people to watch it, then i am happy
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 he plays every game like it is his last, i think he truley appreciated playing at the professional level and realizes how hard it is to play and be successful. He is one of the fortunate few who gets to play a game for a living, and he gets excited to see 20,000 people cheering for him.

seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 k i guess im in the minority here. i just think its kinda classless. and i totally think he does it to shove it in the face of the other team. Well, you'd be wrong. It's obvious when a player is taunting someone. Ovie does it just because it's a natural reaction for him, and he's trying to get the fans/players going. They're never really protracted celebrations, usually short and sweet.
