Salviaman 104 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 Is it just me or is anyone else getting a little concerned about Holmstrom's injuries? I just hope he is healthy come playoff time, cause we will really need him to help out if we are going to compete for a Cup. How inured is he? When will he return? Will Franzen replace him on the PP? wingnut40 176 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 I really hope he gets better and it's not a sports hernia. Franzen seems to be replacing him right now, but it's not the same without Homer. If he's not ready for the 1st round he'll probably be ok for the 2nd.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 I don't expect he'll be back soon. He's been gone for a while already, and reports say he's still having trouble in practices- so much so that he's going in for another MRI. If he's back for the second round I would be fortunate. mmorland 16 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 If it's a sports hernia, he's pretty much done this season. Surgery + recovery is usually 6-8 weeks. Keep your fingers crossed.
Deke 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 I say Franzen already has replaced him on the PP and is doing a fantastic job at it. If Homer came back tomorrow, which would be great news, I would keep Franzen on the primary PP as the anti-goalie. Let's hope it's not a sports hernia. Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 I think you guys mean "lower body injury" Just kidding. I sure hope it's not serious, it would be a real bummer to win the cup without him. Sure his name will be on it, but it just wouldn't be the same for him I'm sure. And he has definitely earned it. Get well soon Homer.
Jericho613 74 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 I hope its not a sports hernia. If it is, we will just need others to step up and get in there for the deflected goals and screen the goaltender. Franzen has been stepping up big time lately.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 From what I just saw on TSN (taken from the Freep): General manager Ken Holland said Tomas Holmstrom will have either an ultrasound test or an MRI after tweaking his groin again Monday. "Big setback...for sure," Holmstrom said Tuesday. "Felt nothing in Columbus doing that skate over there and then we rested Sunday and then practiced Monday and I was sore yesterday." Holmstrom had anticipated today or Friday at home against the Blues, but he'll probably miss another week or two.
Greatness=PavelDatsyuk 65 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 I would love to see him back, but we need him as healthy as possible, for when we make it into the 3rd and 4th rounds
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 Why are so many of you assuming that we'll get past the 1st two rounds easily without him? We need him back right away, especially if we play the Ducks in the 2nd round, which is more than possible.
HoweHatTrick 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 Has there been an update on Homer? Is this a sports hernia for sure, or no? I agree that Franzen has stepped up in a big way. But I would still like to have BOTH of them in the lineup. It's all too easy to shut down one line in the playoffs.
DEVILSWATERBOY 10 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 If I remember corectly Brent Gilchrist had the same injury and he ended up having surgery to repair his hope Homers is not that bad

But in reality, why are you assuming that we won't make it past the first round without him? I mean, I agree he is a great hockey player and a great asset to this team, but he is not the great white hope. We actually have other players, and surprisingly they're not too bad. Don't get me wrong, I love Homer and really hope to get him back as soon as possible too, but I am not going to hang up my cup hopes if he isn't in the lineup in time. As great a player as he is, I don't think that he is the single deciding factor in our playoff run.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted March 26, 2008 What can you say? Definitely cause for concern. Best thing we can do is hope for the best. I would think he'd be able to play at some point in the playoffs if we don't get knocked out in the 1st round if not before. I don't think it's "that" bad, knock on wood. Thankfully I don't think his game will take too long to get back on track.

tiff_luvs_homer 5 Report post Posted March 27, 2008 I miss him so much, and it looks like I'm definitely going to miss out on seeing him play yet AGAIN. Hope you recover quickly Homer!
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted March 27, 2008 It hard to even notice him gone given his (lack of) production that past couple months. Maybe he will do better in the playoffs though given his style of play. But frankly as long as Franzen remains hot I'd keep him on the 1st PP when homer returns until he cools off. Greatness=PavelDatsyuk 65 Report post Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) the wings will most not likely need him the first round, and if we don't get Anaheim or a team like them(san jose), then we won't need him then eaither, so we have some time to let him rest Edited March 27, 2008 by Greatness=PavelDatsyuk

Well, getting out of the 1st round has been hard the last several years, so we need all the help we can get. With Franzen's recent play, it sounds like some people are forgetting what Homer can bring to this team. Granted, if we play the divealanche in the first round, we could win without him easily, but some of the other matchups could prove more dangerous.

We do need everybody, and the first round is a toughy. But I would like to think that our boys can carry the load while he's out. He could make a big difference, but I would like to think that we have the depth to cover for him while he's out. Because if we don't then we could be in for a bad post season even if he does make it back before the playoffs begin.
