Thought I'd make a lil appreciation thread for the mule

March has been a excellent month for franzen. In 12 games from march 2 - march 28 he has picked up 17 points (13g4a) and managed 46 SOG. This is one less point than he has had in the previous 56 games.

His timing to get hot is pretty good if you ask me as the playoffs are just around the corner. I really hope he keeps playing like this going in to the playoffs! But as we saw last year - he stepped up in the playoffs so I don't think he'll let us down. What do you guys think?

It will get interesting to see what babcock does when holmstrom gets back. Ideas anyone?

Mule

Good thread. Nice to see another of our soft, passive/aggressive europeans finding his play! I hope he can learn to use that big body more physically to go with his new found touch around the net for the playoffs.

Keep up the good work Joho!

I just have to say that I got a laugh out of the fact that there is an opposing player lying face down on the ice in this pic, while Mule and Raf laugh if up!!

I wish the 4th line would get more playing time. If they want to see what McCarty can do, they need to give him something to work with. Leaving him on a line with minimal minutes and lackluster players is going to pidgeonhole McCarty.

Thats one thing i don't like about babcock. He needs to give the lower guys more time to work with. Mac is a clutch player, he might not be as good as he was, but he was REALLY good at one point. Give those 3/4th liners a chance.

The guy is soft as hell. Trade him.

Seriously, if he keeps it up and Holmstrom can find his game again when he comes back the Wings are going to be very tough to beat. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are each in the top ten in scoring. Franzen has 25 goals, Holmstrom has 20, Cleary has 20, Filppula has 19. Everyone except Datsyuk has missed time due to injury. All of a sudden the top six isn't so small with Franzen there -- and all these guys play defense. On top of that, Lidstrom leads defensemen in scoring and Rafalski's not far behind. Kronwall is really developing offensively and Stuart fits in well.

And I called this happening at the deadline when everyone was flipping out about secondary scoring. I said wait for Franzen to find his groove and step up. I thought it'd happen in the playoffs but injuries have gotten him an early start and I'm loving it. Great guy.

He is the heir apparent to Tomas Holmstrom.

I just never knew he had such great hands. Holy crap is this guy playing out of his mind right now.

jeez...It might be the new jerseys, but he looks like he is wearing those huge, Ulf Samuelsson type shoulder pads. He is one stout mule.

I am man crushing

thanks for this thread. I am a huge Mule fan... and also love the pic of him and Raffi laughing with a fallen opponent lying facedown behind them. Very emblematic of what this team is capable of.

You monster!

Right 'effin on, man. Much-o agreed.

Once Holmstrom comes back, I'd still put him where he originally was. Babcock will find a way to move him around, no problem.

No Mac WAS a clutch player. Is he one now? We will see but lets get over the man love. Nobody gets a free ride on the Wings no matter how much the fans want it.
