akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 it sucks for them but from Wings perspective it's good news. Arnott's been solid when Trotz freed him of our 1st line in their barn. and Legwand is one of their most skilled guys who can always pot a goal.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 The Predators said Friday that Arnott missed Game 5 due to food poisoning/flu-like symptoms, even though he will in the dressing room after the game. He was scheduled to see a doctor this afternoon, leading to speculation as to whether he has post-concussion syndrome, after getting tackled by teammate Alexander Radulov during a goal celebration in Game 3. After that game, Trotz said Arnott was suffering from some sort of "whiplash.'' Oh man, that's funny! Gotta watch out for those goal celebrations.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 This is great news. Last year we had bad karma with injuries, so I hope things like this can continue going our way. However, we barely beat them yesterday with those guys out, and you know Trashville is going to play better at home.

Hopefully we'll have somethings go in our favor for once.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Look at how much the Wings dominated. True, not so many goals go in but you know that can't last forever. If the Wings go in with a wary confidence, they can successfully keep the Preds down. last night was a defensively perfect game, if they can repeat they should be fine. But yeah, Nashville is going to play whoever they can, injured or not, because it's possibly their last game. They're going to be fired up, the crowd is goign to be in it, and they're probably going to strike early. The Wings CANNOT let themselves get deflated. But I don't think they will. They've got experience and the ability to persevere. This Red Wings team that was born out of the fires of the 2007 Playoffs is not the Red Wings team we've had since 02. Forget about all their past history, this is an entirely new team that will not disappoint.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Food poisoning that induces post-concussion syndrome. That sucks.

There's no way he can save another 50 shots. I wouldn't be surprised if we win 5-1 and he gets yanked.

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Huh. The Freep apparently says differently (per TSN). After missing Game 5 with a mysterious illness, coach Barry Trotz wasn't sure if it was the flu or food poisoning, forward Jason Arnott is "hopeful" for Game 6. - Detroit Free Press Who's usually more reliable? chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Doubt any captain worth his salt would miss an elimination game on account of a lingering headache after some idiot teammate ran him into the ice. Agreed. I was shocked that he missed game 5 as important as it was. Trotz says he was throwing up all day. So give him a bucket to put next to him on the bench. Remember Brent Gichrest (sp?) taking cortosone (sp?) shots before each playoff game so he could play. Or how 'bout Stevie playing the '02 playoffs on 1 leg. He had to use his stick as a crutch to get up every time he went down. They have been playing six months and this game is the entire season. How can he not play. How can he not play. There's a major difference between a leg injury and a head injury. If he really does have post-concussion syndrome, he would be taking an enormous risk by playing. One good hit--not even to the head, as we've seen with Lindros--could not only end his career, but could damage his brain permanently. Is that worth the risk? edicius 3,269 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 If Arnott DOES play in his condition, I'd wager he may actually do more harm to the team than help.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 If Arnott DOES play in his condition, I'd wager he may actually do more harm to the team than help. Thats exactly what I was thinking. He hasnt been that much of a presence as it is. If hes worn-down and replacing a guy in the lineup whod likely bring a ton of energy, then Im all for it.. Yeah, but Lanfeld is 6'3 and North American, which means that he's physical with his hitting, and loves to fight.

True, they definitely could use Langfeld's size and grit over a small finesse guy like 5'9 Tootoo.
RedFX 48 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 (edited) You're telling me that a captain misses the most pivotal game of the series with the flu? Arnott has played through much worse during his career. This is not the flu. This is something Nashville does not want people to know about. Edited April 20, 2008 by RedFX
