dont know if ppl know this but Dmac's right hand is hurt thats why he only went with the left, and thats why he didnt fight in the first round but still he took this fight i'd say 70-30, Dmac fighting with one good hand and still taking it, decent scrap, i think the fact that it was McCarty made it better. Gotta Love It.

GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dmac looked to have ducked every shot thrown maybe one got in at the start but the rest was all Mr. McCarty.

Mac looks good to me!!:thumbup:

Keep it up, no mercy!

What on earth are you talking about? NHL fans have no clue how to judge hockey fights anymore. They think falling down on top of a guy on the ice grants you a victory. It does nothing but confirm that you want the refs to step and end it - it is in no way indicative of your performance in the fight. It's about punches, not wrestling. McCarty handled him well. He landed some blows and ducked his swings. Once the punches stopped, so did the fight. I could care less who lands on top of the other guy. I wish more fans would be less like you when it came to judging fights. It's disappointing to see such an integral part of the sport get demoted to insipid judgements like who took who down.

nuff said

Good post. Don't wait until somebody takes Datsyuk's head off before you get MAC some work. I thought MAC just took a knee at the end realizing he wasn't going to knock this guy out and it was after all, 4-0. As someone else mentioned, he won enough to keep our momentum going, and that's what he's here for. Avs got nothing out of that fight.

Cheers to MAC!!!!!!!!!!

esteef

Agreed, he did just enough to not give the Avs any momentum there. If he loses that fight, it would probably be a downer to the building and give the Avs a little bit of fire because of it. Even with that being said though, he still has to accept the fight. Plus its not like it was Scott Parker or anything, Cody's tough but he's a Jared Boll type. You cant be turning down a fight from a guy like him at home of all places...i know i havent been very supportive of his comeback so far but he's definitely getting the cheers from me as well for this!

There is nothing that brings a smile to my face more than a Karate Kid reference. :) I just watched that yesterday coincidentally...

Dude, Mac kicked his a**. If I was ever throwing punches at someone and they were DUCKING THEM as they happened, I would start crying. Guy got his pants handed to him and a sore rear.

For the record, McCarty himself called the fight the way i saw it...a draw. No fighter on earth doesnt claim victory when they felt they won.

I agree for the most part, there are some take downs that I think add weight to who one the fight but it is more where a guy is more or less beating the other guy down and just throws him to the ground.

when a guy takes a punch or multiple punches and hits the ice, hes knocked down. McCormack didnt tackle him, not sure what some of the homers on here smoke these days. Its always some sort of excuse, why can't people just say Mac Lost the fight when he was knocked down ?

WORD! i couldn;t have said it any better. if you actually watch and analyze the fight u see that mac dodges every punch. that is skill and experience. mac knew exactly what he was doing and it showed. its not hard to wrestle someone down when you are fighting on ice; someone will eventually slip. mac looked just fine. he came out of that fight no worse for wear. i think babs would def prefer mac not to fight if at all possible, but in the situation we were in, it didnt hurt. i think mac knows his limits and he knows that he should not do anything to jepordize the team. i love the effort he;s putting in, and he is playing very well with helm. he still looks a little hesitant at times, like he wants to make sure he doesnt screw up, and his speed is not quite what is once was, but i think as he continues to get more comfortable that will all pass. All the best to Mac! GO WINGS!!!

I think you people need to start watching games without being homers and making up excuses for the Wings when they lose fights or give up bad goals, or turn the puck over in their own zone. I call a Spade a Spade, I dont say "Oh dont blame Mac hes 36" or "It's not Ozzies fault, someone else didn't stop the puck" or "Its not Lebdas fault he turned it over, the RW didnt come back to support him" to use a few examples around here. Im waiting for "if you dont like it dont come back" original response too, that should be a surprise.

Im not seeing where those last few punches landed. The only punch i see that connects by McCormick is the initial one at the start. McCarty got turned into a bad position, but nothing even connected at the end. A punch to someone's back doesnt constitute as a knockdown in my book...that has everything to do with momentum and balance (or lack thereof). I am hardly a homer when it comes to judging fights and very impartial i believe, im just not seeing you're argument here. At the same time though, i do understand how it can be a little frustrating seeing "Mac kicked his ass!!!11" and such, when that clearly didnt happen either.

You are totally right man! Like just last night I got in a fight outside the bar and I got the first hit but then he beat me mercilessly with 10 or 15 hits while I couldn't land a single one. But don't worry I still won because after the beating he gave me he was so tired I just leaned into him a little and landed a half ass shot in the back as he fell down.

Then all my friends pulled me off him which I think they did to save him some face. I mean I just pushed him down! Sure I have a broken nose, missing a few teeth, but at least he didn't knock me over!

Back to reality, D-Mac landed like 10 punches to McCormick's 2 (one was in the back and lame). Who cares who fell down on top of the other guy, D-Mac landed the most blows and won that fight.

You mustve missed the post where i said McCarty himself called the fight a draw. Saying Mac landed 10 punches is far worse than what 2probert4 is arguing.

Taken from the Freep:

"It was 4-0, and he was trying to spark his team," McCarty said. "Obviously, he knows I'm willing. It was great. It's been a long time. I'm a little rusty, but I'm sure people were waiting to see that."

McCarty called the fight a draw, but it truly gave Joe Louis Arena pulsating life for the first time in these playoffs. There are only so many traditions that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman can take away from this town. Al Sobotka can't swing an octopus without fear of league sanction, but McCarty can certainly swing a fist at an opposing instigator.

That fight got the crowd even more into the game. Was at the game and watched my DVR'd recording and NBC didn't show when DMac came out the box after serving his 5. He actually got a huge cheer from the crowd coming out of the box skating to the bench. So cool.

As far as I'm concerned, only when Lilja lands on top of somebody can it be called a win. When anyone else does it, it's not enough to say that the guy won the fight. More is needed, and McCormick didn't do more.

This isn't baseball where we judge winners based on who tackled who to the ground.

The fight was a draw.

For the most part, for me anyways, I was happy to see a Red Wings fight again, and from McCarty no less (whom I expected would have done it earlier, but whatever). I didn't really expect much from him, you know, because he hasn't been in the NHL in a while, nor has he really been a top fighter in the league for years, but I give him a lot of credit for dropping the gloves and answering the bell when the time came.

I'd have been even happier if he had fought that little pansy Cody McLeod (who Derek Boogaard had some interesting words about after the Minnesota - Colorado series ended), but I hate McCormick as well, so it's fine with me. The "pests" as their liked to be called are such losers in my book, especially because they act all tough in the trash talking department, but more often then not turn down fights against everyone.

The majority of those players in the league need to be eliminated, especially the ones like McLeod and Alex Burrows. The only exceptions for me, as far as pests go, are Sean Avery and Steve Ott. They can both actually play hockey, and both actually fight when the time comes, and plus they both have great personalities. But, this is another subject for me for another day, so I'll stop going into this.

I'm happy McCarty gave it a go, and hopefully, we see more of this in coming games. Fights always add an excitement level to the game, especially during the playoffs.

Was there too and watched the youtube videos at home. I didn't see this on any of the online vids, but I loved it when Mac jumped up after the fight and threw his hands in the air! It was crazy loud in there!!!! One of the best games we've been to!

I could not agree more. Landing guys on the ground is how Grimson used to fight earl in his career before he knew what he was doing and just used size over skill. Real skill guys like Domi, Probert, Twist, and McCarty just smoke you in the face til you drop or turtle up.
