Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 I believe he has dived before, likely in an attempt to take advantage of his "blessed" status, but very sparingly and he does not make it a part of his game. Therefore I don't consider him a diver, though I feel he may be teetering on the edge of being truly classified as such.

seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 He's a diver in the same sense that a lot hockey players are. Sure, he's tried to sell a few calls, but most players have too. I really think it's more a product of the way the NHL and hockey media glorify him though, in that he realizes he might get some calls that another player wouldn't. Would you like to share the clip? I wonder if a better question would be "Do you think Crosby is a diver and if yes, is your answer based on watching him play, or reading garbage spewed by others?" I think the bad rap Crosby has received from some has almost soley been the responsibility of a couple opposing teams. In his rookie year. Hitchcock and the Flyers branded him a diver and a whiner and this has been sticking almost ever since with some, but most have been able to ignore the BS. Crosby certainly complained a bit in the early days, especially against Philly, but he was getting the routine cross-check in the face and losing teeth against Hatcher. Now more recently, mostly started by NY media, the Rangers tried to place a seed in the heads of the refs and the NHL that Crosby dives and gets the benefit of calls. Again, this is total BS, the Rangers were simply playing games, trying to get an edge in the series. Ultimately, I think these games had little to no impact. SnipeShow 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 The Sidney Crosby jealousy is as rampant here as it is across the league. I was about to say... I'm from Toronto and I'd like to consider myself a knowledgable hockey fan, with the wings being my favourite team. During the regular season I watch as many hockey games a night as possible, so I see a lot of games. I watch my share of penguins games and Crosby does not dive anymore than any average NHLer does, and he certainly doesn't do it to the extent where he can be labelled as a "diver". Of course the media blows it up and discusses it to death here in Toronto, so my meathead leaf-fan friends hear all this stuff about him diving and would bet on their mother's lives he is the biggest whiner/diver in the league. Everytime they bring it up i ask them when was the last time you watch a penguins game? they don't even watch hockey, they watch whatever it is the leafs are doing... sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 (edited) embellisher? absolutely. diver? nah. THIS is a dive. i remember watching this live. they show a better angle (possibly from behind floppa) and the nucks players stick never even touches him. I MEAN AT ALL. it came inches from his leg but no closer. you must have some sort of peripheral vision to pick that up and then have the juevos to go for the slide. unreal. unless its blatently a dive, embellishing is a good strategic move for your team to go a man up. do i like it? no. do i think it belongs in hockey? no. but it is what it is. if dats takes a dive and on the insuing PP we score the cup clincher i'd love it. its one of the many things that you love when they go your way and hate when it goes against you. and please, don't anyone say if we score on a PP caused by a red wing player diving/embellishing you would hate it. because you are a liar. edit: still dont know how to embed youtube vids! i suck... Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Simple as the poll. Please vote and then explain. I voted that I don't care. He has the puck all the time, the camera is on him all the time and therefore everything he does is exaggerated. Why wasn't anybody up in arms about Ben Guite diving on Henrik Zetterberg in game 3 I believe it was? Guite, like Floppa, like many NHLers dive. Sidney Crosby will try to sell calls. The fact that we pick on him about it is so missing the bigger issue. Diving is an epidemic in our sport. The players do it because they never get called for it. I don't pick on Crosby for diving even though I don't like it because all I have to do is watch any hockey game, including Wings games to see somebody dive every single game. I don't see the point in singling anybody out since almost every does it, has done it and/or will do it. It's a goddamn embarrassment to the game and I hold all NHL players responsible for doing it, the refs for not calling it and the league for not making an issue out of it. Shame on everybody. drwscc 212 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Would it be Don Cherry-ish to suggest that all the diving was brought in by the Euros? Anyone watch any football/soccer, maybe the World Cup? Those guys are trained from little kids to just crumple into a ball at the slightest brush of an opposing player, and writhe on the ground holding their knee if someone's foot comes close to theirs. Heck, I remember this video of some goalie coming out ala Hasek to stop someone on a break. He slides in, and the opposing player jumps completely over him, missing him by like a foot. But the goalie acts like he just took a line drive off his forehead, and flops around on the ground. Pathetic, yet eerily similar to today's NHL.

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 0:40 and (especially) 1:46 are excellent examples. The latter is the one where he looks like he got hit by a car. Most of these incidents are quite old, but I'll comment anyway. In the video, there are two separate spearing incidents. Crosby definately dives, or embellishes both of them, but to be honest, I have never seen a player get speared and not react the same way. I'm not sure why this is. Spearing is a big deal, but to me, it doesn't necessarily inflict anymore damage than a good slash. I suppose a spear is "capable" of inflicting a lot of damage, but most spears do not and they are result in the player falling to the ice like a criple. motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 I like Crosby. I could say he's a diver, but I think he's even more a whiner. Alot of that goes with his age. He's still young, and he gets rattled sometimes, then he looks at the refs for a call, even while the play is still on. Personally, I think he should stay focused more on playing. Again, he's still a young guy.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 No more than any of 'em. Dino was the best though. QFT They all dive to some degree. I don't consider someone a "diver" unless they are utterly flagrant about it all the time. Sid takes his lumps for the most part so I don't think of him as a diver.
