redwingsgirl 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 I would love to see the Leafs regrounp and be able to put something together. Leafs are one of my favorite Original 6 teams - second of course to Wings!
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 If it were up to Cliff Fletcher, I'm sure Pat Burns would be taking over as coach, but I'm sure this decision will be left to whomever the new GM is.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 Yeah, its definitely Maurice's fault the team missed the playoffs yet again. :nonono: God, when is MLSE gonna learn?

Why bother keeping him as a lame duck when a new GM is just going to fire him and hire is own guy, anyways? I'm not going to say that Maurice was a bad coach, but he's not a great one, either. A.T.Hun 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 As far as Paul "Some people call me" Maurice goes, I think you could call this a mercy killing. Toronto management is still under the delusion that simply by invoking the name "Maple Leafs" that everyone will beat a path to their door. Until the hydra that is their ownership is dealt with, the Leafs are going nowhere fast. It hurts me to type that actually since I hate seeing Original Six franchises so horribly mismanaged. akustyk 84 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 Bowman to Leafs, A+ just wait for the rumors to start. I mean... there's always enough dumb Leafs fans who think valuable people would love to screw their careers because of MLSE Maurice was not the problem there. they made him the scapegoat but the real problem is MLSE who lack any vision about how to lead this franchise
Hank 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 let the rumors of Babcock (or Scotty Bowman) to TO begin. I can't wait. It'll be fun to hear how the Leafs are going to get every single executive and coach available - under contract or not - as well as every single UFA and RFA who hits the market July 1st. But there's something you can count on even more from Leaf Nation; they will miss the playoffs, the board members of MLSE will bury their heads even further up their asses and the ACC will be sold out every night. This franchise has absolutely no chance of succeeding. NONE. The only way that happens is if the team is sold to one owner or if fans stop coming to the rink. And we all know that ain't gonna happen. The board members know that they can throw 12 retarded monkeys on the ice at the ACC and as long as they have Leaf Jersey's on, the place will be sold out. Why on earth would they give a piss if they aren't winning? The only reason why they want that is to make that sweet net profit the playoffs bring. But make no mistake. There isn't one person on that board that actually gives a crap about winning the Cup. None whatsoever.

You are right in saying that Maurice is just mediocre.

Guest Crymson Report post Posted May 7, 2008 http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=237026&lid...s=topStory_main That was a totally uncalled-for firing. He clearly can coach a capable team, given that he took the cinderella Canes to the finals in 2002. However, in Toronto he constantly suffered from mistakes by idiotic management. I wouldn't be surprised to see him replace Crawford in L.A. Crawford would require a buy-out, but that seems long past due.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 That I'll agree with. It's just that MLSE keeps ignoring the problem and pinning it on the Coach instead. You are right in saying that Maurice is just mediocre. Well, they removed Richard Peddie as President of the team and fired John Ferguson and Paul Maurice. I don't think they pinned the whole thing on Maurice, I think they pinned the blame on the entire hockey operations.

I don't think they pinned the whole thing on Maurice, I think they pinned the blame on the entire hockey operations. It wasn't the first time MLSE has fired a coach when it wasn't all their fault. I guess thats my point.

However, in Toronto he constantly suffered from mistakes by idiotic management. That 2002 run is his only accomplishment in 10 years as an NHL coach. He's made the playoffs four out of 10 years and made it past the first round once.

Very easy when you live in Ontario.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted May 7, 2008 Good. I haven't liked Maurice since the 2002 Cup finals. The guy isn't a good coach. It was a total fluke and he'll never do anything like that ever again.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted May 8, 2008 The Leafs have requested permission from Vancouver to speak to Dave Nonis. They also plan to request permission from Philadelphia to speak to Bobby Clarke once their season is over. The first statement CANNOT be true, as Nonis was fired by the Canucks a month ago and speaking to him would not require permission. The second is unlikely as Clarke stepped down from his GM position in Philadelphia due in large part to his age and the fact he didn't feel capable of dealing with the daily stress any longer. Why would he leave a job as a VP in Philadelphia for the GM position in Toronto? He'd likely make less, see more stress, and would not be working for the Flyers organization he has spent most of his 30+ years in professional hockey working for.
