high_stick69 7 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I like Malkin and think hes a great player, but he is also kind of a *****. He starts trouble and then hides behind his big guys. After they compared him to floppa, I started to dislike him. The Pens looked pretty good in the part of the game I saw. I know its early, but how do you think they match up with the Wings or Dallas for that matter? A Wings vs Pens final would be pretty sweet I must say! SweWings 45 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I think it's sad that you dislike a player just because of a thing like that...
Shaman 713 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 hes not flopper, by no means, he plays a very russian style, id say hes closer to fedorov. I dont care for Malkin either, but, thats just because of the fact hes a pen, therefore, everyone loves him, if he was a wing, he could be 2x as good and no one would give him any credit... Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I really like Malkin. I personally think he's a better all around player than Crosby, and twice as dangerous. However neither Pittsburgh nor Philadelphia can hold their own in a seven game series against either Detroit or Dallas. I would even be surprised if they walked away with more than a single win in the finals.
CrossoverThrash 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Malkin is a very dirty player, that being said he does have the skill to potentially balance that although both of his goals today came off of brainfarts from philly since he was cherrypicking in both
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I'd be excited to face Pitts. I hate their team, always have (Penguins? What the hell?). I kind of like Malkin. But man, just imagine these top three forwards facing off: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen Crosby, Malkin, Hossa. Colossal. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Still have to beat Dallas. RedRockit 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I lurrve Malkin, Mara slewfoot aside (argh he's too good a player to throw such a hissy fit). IF the Wings and Pens make it to the SCF (I've been predicting it since New Year's, but as Dick Button sez, "The ice is slippery"), then I fully expect him to be more of a threat than Crosby. Oh yeah, and Hossa rules too.
interminded 1 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Malkin is still a very young guy. let's give him some room to make mistakes and learn from 'em. I don't think he's overly dirty, but his times sometimes tends to be a little off which generates a couple of penalties in a game.
marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Can the Pens top line match ours defensively? Just curious. Not a chance in hell. Not only do we have the defence to be able to shut down their top two lines, but we have a roster full of two way forwards (including two selke nominees) to help out with that as well. I may sound cocky, but their isn't a team in the league as complete as ours. And at our best, we can beat anyone in a 7 game series, whether it be Anaheim, San Jose, or the Penguins. Bring it on!!!!! hockey&beer 16 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 "He starts trouble then hides behind his big guys" I love that. Although it is rather true, neither Malkin or Mario couls ever be considered "small". They are just a little more fluffy than truely gritty. Does anyone else think that Sammy could be in the the top 5 in this category? Of course he has no where near the skill set of the others mentioned, but he sure seems to start more than a few scrums when either he has sizeable/capable back near him or the zebras are closing in fast. Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Malkin is awesome. He is clearly outplaying Crosby. By far the best player Penguins have. He resembles Mario a bit I think.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Floppa never scored more than 30 goals in a season. Malkin, on the other hand, has a rocket for a shot. Also, he's much better than Floppa was at this stage in his career. I'll take Malkin's future in a heartbeat over Floppa's injury plagued career. He's more of an all-around offensive threat than Forsberg was, and will only get better defensively.

high_stick69 7 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I think it's sad that you dislike a player just because of a thing like that... Uh, yea, its just because of what the intelligent announcers on VS said. If I started making decisions based on that, I'd be in real trouble!

The thought of Sammy actually crossed my mind when I posted the original post in this thread...lol. Yes, he pisses other teams off by starting it then running and hiding. Maltby has had a history of that also. Shoving and pushing, but never ever ever dropping the gloves. I don't remember ever seeing Maltby fight! Refresh my memory of who he fought, PLEASE!
