TBH, I don't believe that's completely accurate. When Stevie announced he'd miss the Olympics Gretzky took the number out of contention for that Olympic year out of respect for Stevie. Even so, there are so many good players that wear number 19, I can't see Yzerman being a stickler about it. He probably wanted Doan, Spezza, or whoever to wear 19 anyways. Yes, even if, but it doesn't matter, since he isn't, at least I do not think he is. According to Yzerman's wiki page, he has 55 pts for Team Canada in international play http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Yzerman...ernational_play Heatley, according to my stats has 57, see below: World Juniors - 9 World Cup - 2 Olympics - 3 World Championships - 43 Not even sure if Heatley is the leader overall, I haven't tried to search too deeply. However, having worn 91 in the 2002 Olympics and out of respect for Yzerman, Sakic indicated he would not wear 19. Having done so, it would have been pretty hard for anyone else to step up and say they would. To the best of my knowledge, Hockey Canada has never retired any numbers.
