cs6687 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 Hello, Red Wings fans. My first post here. First, your team has been really impressive the last two series. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Franzen have looked scary at times. Osgood is solid. It's still early to tell if the Pens will be in the Finals, but your team is on its way unless they get abducted while in Dallas. I just wanted to see what your general opinion of the Penguins is. From a Pens point of view, we are ecstatic to have a very talented, young team that is extremely confident considering the miniscule playoff experience we have compared to your team. Malkin, Hossa, and Fleury are playing the best hockey of the season. Our fans are more than annoyed with the ''Crosby is a whiner, diver, crybaby, etc'' talk. The same goes for talk about the Pens getting preferential treatment from the officials. That couldn't be further from the truth. I noticed some of the posts on here underrating the Pens defense. One guy said we gave up tons of goals to the Senators and Rangers. I guess he doesn't know the Pens have the lowest team goals against in the playoffs. But, enough of that. Well, good luck to your team from this point on...unless they play the Penguins.

Offspring2099 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 Malkin is a monster, if the two teams meet indeed, Wings are gonna have to shut him down.
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 I'm actually worried about the Penguins. The Wings will absolutely destroy them 5 on 5 probably, but if the Pens keep getting PPs and capitalizing on them, it could be a hell of a series. Oh, and Crosby is a whiner, diver, crybaby, etc.
DYags 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 Welcome to LGW! I have to admit, I'm not worried about playing the Pens or Flyers in the finals.. and thats with no disrepect to your team. The Pens have def. been the most impressive team in the East, but I feel you lack the depth and defensive cababilities to match up with the Wings. We have two shut down defensive pairings and two selke finalists who play the power play and penalty kill. Malkin and Crosby can't match up against Z and Dats on both sides of the puck. Sure they'll produce some goals, but I think they'll give up a lot more. Basically, I feel you guys are too reliant on a few guys. Our top two lines will get the better of your top two in the end, and our depth of productive defensmen (and solid goaltending) will be what really kills you. I'm hoping for an exciting final! And I'd much rather it be you than Philly, Cheers
Yzermania 156 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 (edited) My dad's from pittsburgh. We already have a 100 dollar bet in place if the series happens and it is getting more and more likely every day now. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the extra 100 bucks in my pocket. Aside from that, I think you guys turn the puck over way too much, atleast that;s what I saw in the game I watched a few days ago. Turn the puck over at the Wings blue line and you'll pay dearly...just like my dad is gonna! Edited May 13, 2008 by Yzermania
akustyk 84 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 welcome here! hope you stay here for a while longer. there's still some hockey to be played before we can say our teams will play each other but it looks likely at this moment and I'm certainly hoping for that. I'd love to see a matchup between two highly skilled teams. here's for a Wings-Pens series :beerbuddy:
hockeysattva 8 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 Weeks ago I said I was more worried about the Flyers than the Pens, not because I thought they were more skilled but because they weren't more skilled. The Flyers had the chance to be this years Ducks. Granted nobody is playing as bad/ dirty as Pronger... I could see some crazy things happening with Malkin and Crosby, and I am pretty sure against the Wings they would be on the ice at the same time (atleast in games 3 and 4) to mix things up, again. But, this really feels like 2002, and I just don't think there is any way that enough things could go wrong for the Wings that they wouldn't be able to Win it. Firehawk 305 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 I do not think the Pens have been tested yet like Detroit has (and Detroit is making teams look bad, it's not that the teams aren't good). I think the East is a whole grade below the West, and for that reason, I'm not TOO concerned about the Pens. But the Pens do concern me the most of any other Eastern Team. It's no disrespect. The Pens/Wings would be the best matchup that the NHL could hope for this year. The wings last night in the 3rd period gave me flashbacks to all the cup runs, the heavy puck support, relentless pressure on the puck, making opponent's rushes look foolish with takeaways and quick transitions... You'll find plenty of fans in here whining that the Red Wings aren't getting enough respect or other teams are losing to the Red Wings because of "excuses" or people are tired of people humping Crosby's and Malkin's legs. What can you do though they are two of the main faces in the NHL so they are going to be promoted heavily, it's all but a given so I don't get mad if they are talked about a lot and our guys in Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't get talked about enough. It is also impossible to not go broadcasting a game for nearly 3 hours or giving post-game analysis to where a fan of one team claims anti-bias, and a fan of another team claims anti-bias another way for his/her team from the same comments that an annoucer might make. I try not to get into all that stuff too in-depth. From an entertainiment standpoint, I'd take a Wings-Penguins final in a heartbeat cause the pace will probably be ridiculously fast. From a matchup standpoint, I want neither, just give us the by default so I don't have to spend any more nights on the sofa on edge. Seriously, welcome aboard cs6687, hope to see you around some more.

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 The Pens are only up 2-0 on the Flyers. Don't you think this thread is a little premature? It's going to be Wings-Pens. There's really no denying it at this point. Pens have a good team. Explosive offensive threats (Crosby, Malkin), quiet-but-efficient workhorses (Hossa, Gonchar), a hot goalie, snarl -- they have a lot going for them. But if the Wings keep rolling like this, there'll be no stopping them. That said, the matchups will be veeeeeery interesting.

Well, good luck to your team from this point on...unless they play the Penguins. Welcome! The Pens have definitely been my second-favorite team in the league, ever since the Mario Lemieux days. The first go-round. A distant second, but still. Now, if and when it comes to a Wings-Pens series, then they will, for the duration of the series, be nothing but a bunch of whiny punk crybaby kids in diapers but regardless, if by some misfortune we actually lose the Cup Finals, I'd much rather it be to Pittsburgh than an actual punk team like the Flyers. Pittsburgh is the scariest team in the whole East. Actually if I had to pick one team NOT to face.....Pitt. Easily the most talent of any team in the conference. Unlike these other teams like Colorado and Dallas, the Wings won't be able to focus on shutting down the top line. Crosby is a once-in-a-generation talent. Howe, Gretzky, Crosby, it goes like that. Fleury is playing excellent goal, but that, I'm not as worried about. Theodore and Turco were playing great too, and that was supposed to be the difference in the series. Seven games later, here we are. Now, the Wings haven't played anyone nearly as talented as the Pens....but it works the other way too. Bye, Philly. Bye Dallas. The Wings and Pens are rolling into the Finals like juggernauts. It'll be a matchup for the ages.

Shaman 713 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 Welcome I personally talk a lot of sh!t about the pens D, why though? Well because its easy to come up short when you compare your D to the Wings D, we have 2 great shut down pairs, and Lids is our top D man, he counts as 3 people on his own some nights. But, its not meant as disrespect towards Pitts, its a general statement towards the east which is a lot more run and gun, whereas the west is grittier hockey, better defensive hockey (there is a reason why we had 32 less GA this season then Pitts). I cannot wait to see the wings show that offense is all well and good, but its defense that wins cups. Well anyway, we will see, won't we? Good luck against the orange and black. We will do the best to make dallas look like the Avs.

va Winger 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 I haven't counted the Flyers out yet. I like watching the Pens play, and it's a really good story with the team in shambles a few years back and super Marios actions preventing losing the team all together. I have been a diehard Wings fan for 30+ years, and though very biased, I don't see any team in any league disrupting our plans for a cup this season............The more we play and win the more confident we become and the more difficult it becomes for every other team (including Pitt). I do respect your team and think you have a great future in the next few years, just not this year. Welcome to our Blog. It's nice to here from the possible competition in a friendly Hockey sense kinda way ! Good Luck with the Flyers.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 My opinion: I love watching the Pens play in these playoffs, they are truly and exciting team to watch. Crosby and Malkin's defensive play is not as seasoned as Dats and Zetterberg, but this is an aspect of their game that is truly underrated, they are very responsible defensively. Pittsburgh has been playing great, have some very exposive players, which will give the Wings trouble at times, but I think it comes down to the Wings simply having much more experience and that experience will likely play a large role in them taking a series against the Pens. You can talk all you want about how the lineups compare, but I don't even think that matters, I think experience wins out here, but the Pens will have gained a lot of experience this year and should be pretty good in years to come. I'm not even taking into account how well the Wings are playing right now.
