Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Sundin is so far past his prime, I don't think he even remembers when he peaked...we don't need a 37 year old liability on the team. I'm not saying whether or not Detroit should pursue Sundin. But I just wanted to mention that we have a 37-year old (past his prime) in Nick Lidstrom. If Matt is past his prime and and a liability like Lidstrom is, then he's welcome on my team any day of the week!
egroen 384 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Assuming we sign Flip, Howard, Ericksson and even Stuart at the high end ($4 million) we could offer Sundin a one year $6 million contract -- preferably more like a $5 million w/ bonus. If he bites... sure, sign him. I would rather spend that money at the beginning of the year than either: 1) Sit on it 2) Throw it at a rental player and lose picks and prospects along with it
Ozzie30 170 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 So who sits for him in game 4? Maltby or Helm? and what if Kopecky was healthy?
HenryMalredo 2 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 He'd be nice for the Wings to have, but he's not really necessary.
Glubki 17 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 If he played for 4 to 4.5 mil a year than yes - sign him. He made 5.5 million last year....

Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Forseeing that Drake retires, we have a hole on the existing roster. But, we have Kopper getting healthy by December. Helm has stepped up and Sammy will probably be around cause Babs loves him. So, if he could be had for under 2.5 mil then fine, otherwise we are just fine. Our second PP would get a HUGE boost though with Sundin's passing. Z-D-H Stein-Flip-Sammy Maltby-Drapes-Kopper Hudler-Helm/Sundin-Downey/Mac
akustyk 84 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 (edited) leave him. we have enough experienced leadership to keep us in the game next season. better put this millions into scooping some young but established player. Edited May 29, 2008 by akustyk
shoe 165 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Z-D-H Stein-Flip-Sammy Maltby-Drapes-Kopper Hudler-Helm/Sundin-Downey/Mac Sundin on the forth line lol ya right! He has been playing with 4th liners on the 1st line his whole time as a leaf Im pretty sure if he was to sign with the wings he would have different expecations of his line mates. Sundin on this team could mean running 3 lines with 2 big centers, Franzen being one Sundin being the other, would also give Babcock a chance to try is break up Datsyuk and Zeterberg experiment again, could be quite interesting. rwfan007 18 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 theres no way he is leaving toronto. he declined a trade, which would have strictly been a rental, and would have brought players and/or picks back to toronto, and for him to leave for nothing after his so called loyalty to the leafs would be a huge blow to his reputation and legacy with the leafs. hes either a leaf next year or not in the NHL at all due to retirement

Word is he wants a raise, and Montreal is willing to pay between $7-8 million on a one-year deal. Anyways, I hope he leaves because I want John Tavares. It seems that both sides are angling this thing so that there's kind of "mutual agreement" to part ways. I don't know, Mats' comments to the media lately have been pretty murky. He's usually a straight-shooter, but he's holding back a bit right now.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Rumour has it Tavares might not even be the class of the 09' draft. Some big defensemen from Sweden might go #1. Yeah, I've heard that Victor Hedman could give Tavares a run for his money. But the Leafs badly need a top forward and if they somehow end up at #1 overall and decide to trade down to #2 to get Tavares, I'm fine with that. Plus, Tavares is a Toronto boy, so it makes sense for them to get a face of the franchise that's a local kid.

The Wings certainly will still be one of the favorites going into next season to make it to the Cup finals again. My pipe dream of Hossa signing with the Wings continues. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 Sundin is so far past his prime, I don't think he even remembers when he peaked...we don't need a 37 year old liability on the team. Sundin is far from past his prime, he almost single handedly took a bad Leafs team to the playoffs in three years. You have not seen him play ... ever, if you honestly believe he's a liability. He could make a good team great, and could only help us. He and Franzen together would be unstopable, his leadership is second to none as well. He will not go to Ottawa or Montreal, it's Detroit or Toronto.
9-HoweFan 2 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 Please Kenny, just say NO to Sundin. He's a over-arrogant ****** that has never really been a leader in the playoffs, what little the Leafs got there. I'd rather spend the money for him towards getting Zetterberg tied up long term and tweaking the line-up for next season. No more re-treads, Swedish or not. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 I'd LOVE to see him on a one year contract. Though if we had a chance at hossa perhaps for a few years while having enough space for Z, I'd do it. That's dreaming though.

Hank 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 I'd rather have Sundin and Franzen on the second line with Filppula instead of Sammy and Hudler. I'd rather have SARS on our second line than Sammy.
