haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I think he's definitely got the resume, but a part of me still thinks it'll be a struggle for Ozzy to get into the hall, because even with this Stanley Cup performance he's still not quite getting the credit he deserves. Many announcers talk about Osgood's play, but in the same breath mention the stifling Detroit defense. For whatever reason Brodeur having to go long stretches without touching the puck then having to make a huge save shows what a great goalie he is. When Osgood does the same thing, it somehow apparenly makes his job easier. Hopefully Osgood will have a trophy or two more by the time he retires so there's no question. pjgj13 30 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I have ALWAYS liked Ozzie. He doesn't have that "holier than thou" attitude that other goalies have. He definately deserves a HOF spot and if he gets another 1 or 2 cups..... A retired number to the rafters!

Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 The Ozzie-love is great. I've always loved this guy, actually cried when he left and then cried when he came back. So needless to say, his play this season was something that just blew me away. Not because I didn't think he could do it, but because I KNEW he could, and watching everyone have to admit "hey, this guy's not half-bad" made me smile. I would have loved to see him win the Conn Smythe (I probably would have passed out if it happened), but another Cup ring is just as good. I hope he has the same kind of year, only better next season! We love you Ozzie. :-D
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 If he's not now, just wait. Like others have said, he's going to hit 400 wins likely next season. Then he has two years left after that. If he starts the next 3 years and wins 45 a year he's got a shot at 500. It's absolutely within reason given his and this teams play. The core of this team is sticking around and I wouldn't be shocked if he won at least won more Cup before he's done. On top of that, potential All Star appearances are likely if he keeps his play up as he'll certainly be on the ballot next year which will help. Bottom line: he's going to the Hall. Guest redwingsfan04 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Lets not talk HOF yet its very early the new and improved osgood just started carrer number 2 as the CHRIS OSAWSOME he has many cups to win
GAWing 1 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 He's a true winner and survivor, a goalie few of us thought would help win the Cup for us this year. His place in Red Wing glory is secure now.
Cruiser008 37 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I think this year's performance clinches his place in the Hall of Fame. In 1998 he merely had to be solid, but in these playoffs he was one of the leading candidates for the Conn Smythe. Time and time again he came through when Detroit needed him most; that's what separates a great player from a good player.
glasgowcelticwing 18 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Ozzie is a solid and very underated goaltender who never gets the recognition he deserves because he isn't flamboyant like other goaltenders we know of. he makes things look easier than they are because he keeps things simple , i respect that . sadly others do not . the guy should get a break from all the BS spoken about him and be appreciated for how good he is .for me Chis Osgood should get into the hall of fame once he retires. Nev 1,085 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I said earlier in the season that if Ozzie won another cup he was a legit contender for the HHOF and for number retirement, assuming he would do it *after* Hasek retired. Then he goes and does it this season! For sure if he has another couple of strong 30+ win seasons, All-star appearance(s) and more playoff runs, he should get in. Like others have said, no-one ever brings up the stifling defense of Dallas or NJ when talking about Belfour or Brodeur why is Osgood different?

He's a nice, stable, humble, quiet, hard-working Western Canadian prairie boy. He sure looked like a Champ last night, didn't he? Good on ya, Oz! And congrats, Wings. Earned it, and THEN some! Shockwave180 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I didn't realise that Ozzie supporters had been copping crap. Now I'm even more glad I started this thread. You weren't here for the Great Goalie Wars of 2006. Many deaths.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Always been a huge Oz fan, one of my favorite goalies ever. Definitely HHOF material.
CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 It's not really a question of if, but when. He will be in there. He has the numbers. They will only get better. Osgood played his head off, and we are now reaping the benefits. Thanks Ozzie!
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 Name me a goaltender with better numbers than Oz who is eligible but isn't in the Hall. What's that? You can't? Because I can name plenty of goalies who are in the Hall with careers that don't rival the Great and Powerful Oz.

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 Stats-wise, there's no good argument as to keeping him out. Especially since many claim the Hockey Hall of Fame has become the Hockey Hall of Pretty Good. So then, those who want to deny Ozzie his rightful spot fall back on two arguments. 1: "Anyone would rack up those numbers playing for the Red Wings." There's no doubt that playing on the Red Wings has helped Osgood. Just as playing for the Devils has helped Broduer, or playing for the Canadiens and Avs helped Roy. Imagine that, a goalie puts up better numbers because they were on a good team. Is being on a good team really an excuse to deny someone. And, if you look at his numbers, there really isn't much of a change in SV% and GAA when he was with the Blues and Islanders. 2: "He's never been the best goalie in the league." That may be true. But other than Broduer, is there a goalie in league right now with more Cups than Ozzie? I can't think of one off the top of my head. Ozzie belongs in the Hall.
