Andrew Raycroft

I just saw this on TSN. Toronto is putting Raycroft through waivers along with Wellwood. As much as I think Denis would be a solid fit, I also believe that Raycroft could be a good insurance policy as well and compete with Jimmy Howard for the #2 spot. Just as Denis, he has struggled, but again, he has had poor teams in front of him and has had poor defensive help, which all changes once you come to this team. Discuss amongst yourselves.... and yes, I'm ready for the bitching about how Howard should be the undisputed backup too, so bring it on.

I'm sort of hoping one day we'll discuss a goalie worth a s***. We ought to be setting higher standards than Raycroft and Denis - these guys weren't even good enough to wear the baseball cap for craptacular non-playoff teams, what does the Stanley Cup Champion need with them? We can do better.

They are, at best, good for forming the veteran half of a tandem with Larsson in GR and being called up for spot duty in the dark days of January should the unthinkable happen and Ozzie and Howard go down. In other words - organizational depth, not as legitimate competition to actually be on the roster.

Wow, you could have said the same thing about Samuelsson and Cleary a few years back, heck even Downey.... Better have a little more faith in people then that. You sure are quick to dismiss any potential at all and you must be excellent at predicting when an athlete's time is truly up.

Oh and lets not forget Theodore... he seems to be finding his groove again too. There are such things as come-backs you know. When you take a player from a particularly crappy team and put them in a strong organization with plenty of support, almost anything is possible.

Well then why not just grab any ol' stiff off the waiver wire? For every Dan Cleary there's a Boyd Devereaux. I understand Alexandre Daigle isn't employed by any NHL team either.

And skaters are far, FAR, FAR less of a risk than goalies. You have 18 of them in a game and 20-some of them on the roster, and more awaiting call up. You only get four goalie slots between Detroit and GR. You have to use them wisely.

HELL ******* NO. YOU COULD NOT GIVE ME THIS PIECE OF s*** NAMED RAYCROFT!

he is god awful and not worth the time or money because no matter how bad howard is, raycroft is worse. enough said, lets never mention this again.

Yeah, Raycroft = Garbage. He really only won Calder because there was nobody else.

He hasn't hit .900 SV% since prior to the lockout. GARBAGE. Howard is probably better than him even now.

Why cant we stop discussing halfwit players, who will never amount to anything more then a career backup or journeymen..

We have 2 NHL ready goalies already who are battling for the backup position. last thing we need is to waste salary space with a goaltender who wont fair anybetter then Howard and larson would..

WE DONT NEED ANYONE.. TO FILL OUR SPACES LEFT WE HAVE CHEAPER AND PERFECTLY CAPABLE PLAYERS IN THE AHL AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL LEADS TO FILL A VOID.

Go with Ozzie. Seriously. And have Howard play a bundle of games with Larsson coming up for a couple if he does well in the GR. Esp considering the crap that's available. I don't see why this setup is so bad? I mean how is Howard a bigger risk than Hasek was?

Only in Detroit can we get into a goalie debate over absolutely nothing! I say absolutely not to Raycroft. I do not doubt that Kenny will bring in to give Howard a run for his job. I just hope it is not Raycroft.

We don't need any goalies off the FA pool. Period

I don't really agree. We just don't need bums.

But at the moment, we're looking at Osgood and three kids. Howard, Larsson, Koopmans (RFA). And Adam Berkhoel, who the Wings signed specifically to stock the Griffins, and who may or may not be brought back. Holland ought to look into getting a veteran of some reasonable talent. If it came down to it, I'd rather have Denis than Raycroft, but there are better options out there and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kenny go after one.

I agree with Denis over Raycroft. These are goalies with potential, you forget that our defense and system is much different from other teams. Some goalies that have been struggling may strive in a back-up role in a better system. It's science!

Look at Ty Conklin, I think two other teams wrote him off, but he came into Pitt and played on his head.

Conklin was wrote out of Edmonton, or he'd have been hung, thanks to his boner in the 2006 playoffs, then went to Buffalo as Miller's backup until they got Thibault.

There's an Idea....Jocelyn Thibault....

But I still like Berkhoel over BOTH Denis and Raycroft.

Thibault was nothing short of atrocious this year.
