Superman54 91 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Holy s***, I forgot how much they offered him last year. 4 Million, thats a joke, way to go Burke. Just proves even more how much of a greater GM Holland truly is. I felt it was getting mistreated after all the speculations with Toronto and Brain. With the consideration of Bertuzzi here, No...... egroen 384 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Holland ultimately made a mistake by giving up Matthias for him... Burke took that mistake, threw more money at it and knocked it out of the park of sanity.
Dr. Scrappers 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 And we all know how well that worked out for Colorado, eh? True. But Kariya had a sprained wrist all that season, which is a killer for a goal-scorer. And Selanne went straight into knee surgery after that season. Basically a worst-luck scenario for Colorado.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 ... I would take him back.
Reilly 24 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Holland ultimately made a mistake by giving up Matthias for him... Really, what has Matthias actually done? And don't tell me you knew who Matthias was when we traded him, either.
egroen 384 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 That's why I said "ultimately"... as in hindsight. Matthias is shaping up very nicely and would be one of our strongest prospects right now. Bertuzzi ended up making this team better by leaving. I did not think it was a mistake at the time. But I highly doubt Holland would do it over again with the gift of hindsight. Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 ... I would take him back. If he clears waivers and is bought out and signs a one year deal for waaaay less than 4 Mil, I'd take him too.
Opie 308 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 With Homer on the 1st line and the emergence of Mule where would he play? Are you going to put him on the second line with Mule? Does Mule get relegated to 3rd line with Cleary and Draper? I would much rather Mule on the second line than Bert. I say pass on him, his career is over, he is not what he once was. Sure he may have spurts and games where he looks like the old Bert, but he inevitably regresses back to the soft new Bert.
egroen 384 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Let's say you can get Bertuzzi for $2 million. Where do you play him? Who do you sit? Samuelsson and Hudler provide the same points at half the salary. Cleary and Filppula are fast, gritty and great defensively. Franzen is possibly shaping into who Bertuzzi used to be. There's no way he makes it onto the second line. He's not going to be on the defensive third line. Leaves the 4th line. He'd be valuable on the 4th line. $2 million for a 4th liner seems pricey, and would Bert accept that? I'm sure some other team will pay him more than he's worth and this convo will be a moot point. Every time I watched him play, it seemed like he was on the verge of being kind of close to his old self again (which I think could be an upgrade over Sammy... maybe)... but maybe that's never going to happen. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 For ultra cheap (like....league minimum) he wouldn't be a bad pickup, he'd score some goals and rack up some points, but no, he's not the player he used to be, and he's bound to be a little bitter about the whole experience with Detroit-Anaheim, he'll want a fresh start. I'm not sure if he's ready to be a bit player.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Naslund and Bertuzzi to Detroit ala a discount package deal! Do it! Just like the Kariya/Selanne package deal that Colorado did a few years ago. One year deal for each, the buddies get a chance to play together and prove they've still got it! I could see them being successful. They sign on for a discount price, we have one-year cap space galore anyway. There are alot of "washed-up" comments from fans around the league about Bertuzzi and Naslund, but if the Wings announced the signing of these two guys on July 1, then it would strike fear into the hearts of the other teams in the Western Conference you can bet. And rightfully so! 1. Weren't those two like a minus 47 in their prime with the knuckleheads? 2. Which two Red Wings are you going to move to make room for these clowns? 3. You should get a 5 minute misconduct for that post!
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Bertuzzi is useless. I'd take Shawn Bates (the other player bought out today) before I take him back.
Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 for people who dont really get how it works (i was one of them here it is) The Ducks will have to pay 2/3 of his remaining salary, which at $4 million a year is $2.67 million. According to the collective bargaining agreement, the Ducks can pay that over the next two years, which means it will only hit their salary cap figure for $1.33 million over the next two seasons. *IF HE CLEARS WAIVER which at that kind of price iam sure he will
DraperFan MN 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Where is Draperfan!?!?! His Bertuzzi alarm should have gone off by now. You mean the imposter, the guy who gave me a bad name around here? I haven't seen him in a while. As for Bert, we've been down that road...I think he could prove to be productive over the course of an entire season here, and he still has enough skill to play with our guys. I dunno, for the right price, Bert would be worth it.
DraperFan MN 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 I'd take him back for a dollar. That's what we got Draper for, right? and now he's a four time, Stanley Cup Champion.
Dr. Scrappers 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 It's easy to hate Bertuzzi. He's got a real hateable mug. But before calling him useless, consider some of this: He had the third-best plus/minus of all Anaheim forwards last year (behind only Getzlaf & Perry). 40 points in 68 games ain't too shabby, when you basically didn't play at all the season before and you're getting to know a new team and dealing with a concussion to start that season. That equates to about 50 points in 82 games. He's a giant with an edge. Gives the Wings a dimension we totally lack. Our only giants are Lilja & Franzen. And they are harmless puppies. Having a mean giant on the ice for you who isn't a defensive liability and also gets you 50 points (and possibly more) isn't something we want on the team? Tell me he's overpaid at $4 million, tell me he's a pain in the neck to have in the dressing room.... but don't tell me he's useless.

T.OWingsFan 7 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Well Bert's $4 million for 2 years was the reason they couldn't qualify Penner at $4.25. Enjoy now Burkie.
