Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 If Brad Stuart heads back to Cali, would Kenny think about promoting one of our young blueliners and go after both Sundin and Rolston? I know that we look like we may only have an opening for Dallas's roster spot, but its a route that may be worth taking. Plenty of us have asked for the young Dmen to be given a chance and this could be a way of giving them all a run in the team. In a way Meech, Quincey and Ericsson could be handed a 15+ game run and see who makes the most of it. It would mean that more than likely Lilja would be on the 2nd pairing with Nic jnr but I don't see that as a major problem. With Cheli and Lebda as well, its more than likely that one of those 9 D will be traded. Lebda and Meech are very similar so it could be either. Kenny could then offer Rolston what was set aside for Stuart plus a little on a 1-2 year deal and he could offer Mats what he was going with anyway. Rols would be more than a replacement for Dally and then you have the bonus of adding a future HHOF to the line up. It would throw up all sorts of problems in the line department, but a 2nd line of Rolston Sundin and Franzen would keep the size vocalist's happy. Either one I would be happy with, but both would be awesome.
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 I could live with that. But what if we added Jesus as a fourth line "energy" guy?

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 We can't afford two big name sigings. The odds are too slim, what with all the teams desperate. THere are 30 teams competing for about 4 or 5 quality guys, and 99% of those teams have histories of drastically overpaying players. We may get one of Hossa, Sundin, Rolston, but not two of them. If we do, I'll be happy, but I'm not getting my hopes up. And no way in hell should Lilja be on our second pairing. You need to replace Stuart with someone of equal caliber. And we don't haev anyone in the system capable of being a Number 4 defenseman other than him.
Booster313 138 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 I think you will see one top tier free agent siging: Hossa Sundin Rolston etc... or two lower tier signings: Bertuzzi Fedorov Stuart etc... Add a veteran goalie if the opportunity arises otherwise we might save some cash for the deadline as insurance. For what it's worth I'd like to take a run a Redden and then add an affordable forward like Bert or possibly Sundin for one year rather than try to get Hossa or Rolston tied up for a couple years. Holland has already stated that he will add a veteran netminder period to compete for the backup job with Howard. I'm guessing the veteran guy will be Marc Denis and he will spend the season in GR. Furthermore, there was an apparent split vote at the trade deadline among upper management when it came to trading for Fedorov. Obviously some top guys don't want it to happen, which means it probably won't now either. I guarantee you he signs with the Capitals. He also said his hand wouldn't be forced into any deals that it would have to be the right deal. Just because his plan is to sign a veteran goalie doesn't mean he will. As for fedorov...he was just an example of what I consider the second tier free agents. I don't think he'll be coming here either. But never say never. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Kopecky? Come on. We already have super-enforcer Andreas Lilja for that role. In fact, wasn't it you who suggested he play forward? To this date, still one of the most ingenious ideas in the history of LGW. I mean it's only customary for an enforcer to be a winger, right? Then we could fill Drake's spot, and at the same time appease all the unhappy campers who don't want Lilja on defense making turnovers. This could also clear room for Eriksson to get more playing time and develop into a tough customer of his own on the blueline. Am I good or what?
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 I could live with that. But what if we added Jesus as a fourth line "energy" guy? Since Jesus and his spirit is everywhere, he could just possess the souls of opposing players and knock them unconscious as the 4th line energy guy, since he was able to perform miracles. Only problem is that damn thing called free will where everybody chooses their own life so Jesus unfortunately doesn't interfere. Damn gum it.
