I wouldn't mind it, But i wouldn't be all that excited at the same time. Players below i would rather have.

Owen Nolan, Old school PWF, Still some gas in the tank

Michael Peca, Proven veteran, tons of leadership.

Ryan Johnson, PK Specialist, Ideal 3rd/4th Line Grinder

Brad Winchester, Big Body, plays hard hits harder

Arron Asham, Undersized but he has tons of heart

Sean Avery, Sean Avery.. Nuf Said

Chris Gratton, Can still play good minute, Gritty can score good all around player

Darcy Tucker , Pest, Decent skill level

Matt Cooke, heart and soul type player. gotta love em

BRAD FRIGGIN ISBISTER, Big Bodied,Nothing is overwhelmingly great in his game, but can play on the 4th line and put up numbers and ruffle featehrs

CRAIG WELLER

I have always been a Peca fan. You have got to respect a guy of his size who plays and hits as hard as he does. With that being said, I don't know if he'd be willing to accept a diminished role on the Wings but you never know.

how bout we leave in aaron downey

To be honest that's my #1 choice as well I just don't see it as a reality. Carry an enforcer throughout the regular season and worry about his replacement near the trade deadline (like we did this year with the DMac swap). It kind of eliminates the point of carrying an enforcer when he's in the press box... but the season hasn't even started yet so I'll keep quiet and see how things play out.

Tomas Kopecky.

It will not be Tomas Kopecky.

The reason the Wings are even concerned about adding a vet is not because they need a spot to fill. If it were about depth play, they wouldn't be looking - Kopecky, Helm, Abdelkader, etc. Take your pick. It has nothing to do with that. It has been said by Holland, Babcock, the freep, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Ozzie, etc that one of their huge motivators through the playoffs was Dallas Drake. Why? Because he was an honorable teammate who was popular in the lockerroom in the twilight of his career wanting more than anything to win his first cup. Thats why Lidstrom said that even in round 1 he knew he would hand the cup off to Drake first if they won it all. Drake was huge behind the scenes apparently. Thats the #1 reason they're even pursuing a guy like that. Babcock is already cognizant of a Stanley Cup Hangover, and he wants the Wings brass to get a good motivator on the squad to avoid complacency.

In case you haven't noticed, Kopecky provides ZERO of that.

Of the guys folks have brought up, the name that stands out most is Mike Peca. Hes the only guy there that really fits that Dallas Drake mold of the ones mentioned in this thread. Jeremy Roenick would've been a nice choice as well, but thats out of the picture now..

Any ideas via trade?

Kenny's not going to add someone just to chase the ghost of Dallas Drake. If someone comes along who could potentially serve that role as a veteran motivator, then great. But if Kenny doesn't find the right fit, which is certainly a possibility, Kopecky will be given that spot at the start of the season.

In addition to not adding leadership, he doesnt add a phsyical presence, a scoring touch, or defensive play either ;).

Nolan or Peca seem like the best options, but I would love Bertuzzi or Tucker.

I have yet to say his name in any thread, but wouldn't the most motivated person probably be Sundin?
or Naslund, Jajr, Roberts for crying out loud. I still question how much Mats wants to win a Cup. He already won Gold.

Tomas Kopecky.

Kopecky brings so little to the team..it is not even close to Drake's efforts.

Kopecky is big soft player. Drake was smaller hard hitting guy. The two of them are so beyond different players it isn't even comparable.

Kopecky is not a replacement for Drake. Drake was a hard nosed, in your face, character guy that could inspire his teammates to play better. Kopecky, on the other hand, is extremely soft, and floats around like a butterfly. He is not physical, nor does he really provide anything useful to the team at all. I really would like to see him gone by next season, but since that'll never happen, I won't get my hopes up.

...and another thing: the only reason Kopecky lead the Wings forwards in hits last year is because the Wings don't exactly have a lot of big, physical players (no, I'm not starting up that arguement again; just stating a simple fact). Had Drake not been injured for much of the season, or had Downey been a regular in the lineup, they would have both blown him away in hits.

He really isn't physical at all, and in the rare moment he tries to be, he usually falls over because of his terrible balance. He has no offensive upside at all, and his defensive play is weak too, especially when compared to Drake, the guy he's supposed to replace, according to some. Plus, let's not forget two season injuries he's sustained in his only two seasons in the NHL. The guy just isn't a very good player in any form of the game, and I really don't see what other people see in him.

I'm just telling it like it is: if Kenny doesn't find a veteran spark plug like Drake, the Wings will start the season with Kopecky in that spot.

Does Sammy manning the point on the PP make sense? No, but that'll continue to happen as well.

Ask Patrick Sharp's face about just how soft Kopecky is. :D
