Capitals sign Jose Theodore to 2-year contract

As per TSN:

The Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Jose Theodore to a two-year contract.

Theodore, 31, became an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after playing out a three-year, $16 million contract. The former Montreal Canadien came off a solid 2007-08 campaign, posting a 28-21-3 record and a 2.44 goals against average.

The Avalanche acquired Theodore in 2006, hoping to re-vitalize his career after a few struggling campaigns in Montreal. In 2001-2002, he won the Vezina and Hart Trophies as the league MVP with a 2.11 goals against average and .931 save percentage. He followed that up with a disastrous 2002-2003 season, during which his goals against shot up to 2.90 and his save percentage dropped to .908 as the Habs missed the postseason.

I guess Huet is going elsewhere. Wouldn't it be sweet if we got him?

We need a more veteran goalie than Huet..

Such a waste of a good looking jersey... :P

Ozzie is our veteran goalie. Huet is real good as well.

Huet will want more time than he'd play in Detroit.. He is still in his starting years

DUMB DUMB AND DUMB

I had more faith in the caps then to lower themselfs to f'n Jose Theodore, why didnt they just sign Cloutier if they wanted a s***ty goalie he would have been cheaper too.

I guess the caps missed the second round when the wings made him look like an ECHL reject

should have paid Huet what he wanted

Wow. I was wondering who was going to take this gamble. His play has been inconsistent at best and down right bad since he left Montreal. Funny how GMs think that 'maybe he will play better for us' when he has shown no signs of returning to his prior form. I think I would have stuck with Huet. Actually, if they had not embarassed Kolzig so much, they would have been better off keeping him than just renting Huet which cost them Kolzig. This is the same situation as Bertuzzi and Raycroft. Raycroft still gets signed based on a Calder he won many years ago now. He has never lived back up to that first season and Bertuzzi...as the Ducks and Wings know, he is not nearly the same player he was before the Moore incident. I don't think ever will be but I am sure there is some GM out there who believes he will change in their environment. Conklin is more consistent than Jose so I am glad the Wings went with him...oh yeah, and the fact that he will be making only $750K does not hurt either.

And Avalanche fans in and around Denver are breathing a huge sigh of relief now I bet. :D

Until they realize that Andrew "Even water balloons rebound off of me" Raycroft between the pipes!
