Calder Trophy Next Season?

Okay... Too much Wings talk around here. I love the Wings, but love the NHL as a whole too.

So yeah, next season starts in October... I know this, but any idea as to who could win Calder? I've been having debates, but here it goes. One of these 3, IMO, will win it...

Stamkos - He's going to probably be on the second line for Tampa and have a permanent role on the powerplay right away.

Turris - Already has 3 games in, so he'll come in as a steady player. A top 2 line for Phoenix and a big go-to-guy.

Bernier - I think he'll earn himself starter as the season progresses. As early as the first 2 weeks, when Labarbara has crappy nights and Bernier comes in and dominates.

Who do you think has a shot? And is there any Wings that could potentially make a splash as a rookie sensation? Is Helm going to be considered a rook?

Oh yeah, forgot Karl Azner. I don't really know if Drew Doughty will step in yet, but he was labelled as the most NHL ready in the draft.

Not Bernier. He's gonna be great but not yet. Besides, he has such a tough job. No goalie could maintain respectable numbers for LA.

Drew Doughty is the real deal but I can't see him putting up big numbers therefore no-one will notice him. It's bullcrap.

Kyle Turris will win it I'm sure.

to be eligible is it that you have to be in your first full season as a starter, because if helm isnt eligible than turris shouldnt be eligible

Nah, I think you can be eleigible as a sophomore if you've played less than 20 games or something. So both Helm and Turris would be.

Helm played 25 games including playoffs though. If playoffs isn't included than that's just weird. Playoffs give you more experience than anything.

I was wrong. I just read it was no more than 25 games for eligibility. So even if playoffs do count, Helm will be eligible. Not that he'll win it anyway.

villie liemo or however u spell it. i put him on my wings dynasty team in nhl 08 and he is tearing it up, i didnt know he was only 23. i know he wont win, but hopefully he is another great find by this team

Well, in that case if Leino did well in NHL 08, I can't think of a reason that he wouldn't win the Calder. Unless of course, he does poorly in 2K8.

Nikolai Kulemin is going to get first-line time in Toronto.

Well, getting first-line time in TO next season won't any achievement but I totally forgot about him. He's gonna be good straight off the bat, for sure. But I don't think he'll match the numbers of someone like Turris or Stamkos but he'll be a great PKer.

Yeah, nice pick by Toronto. They drafted him as a mediocre Russian player, but two years after that, he tore it up.
