Stop Stanley Cup visits

I think the Stanley Cup visits are getting ridiculous. Kris Draper's child takes a crap in it. Holmstrom's cousin uses it for a christening. Additional players and wives may now be thinking of unique (and disrespectful ways) of using the Cup in order to become "newsworthy:" as a salad bowl or soup tureen, as a planter "box" (let the next family clean the dirt), holding the developing liquids for photographs, as a urinal, etc.

Either the visits should be stopped, with the players getting a photograph of themselves beside the Cup (as well as their permanent miniature replica); OR, a directive has to be issued that the Cup is to be displayed ONLY, and NOT used for any other purpose

If I was say Dallas Drake or some other journeyman NHL'r, after I won the cup after 20 years of grueling hockey, i would make sweet love to the Stanley Cup haha

I dont agree... I mean... its not like Draps told his daughter to crap in the cup... it just happened, it was cleaned up and no harm done.

They party with the cup and things happen... thats life. They are not perfect and I really don't think they are doing it to get into the news.

name another trophy so personal that you get to spend a day with it. Don't bother, stanley is the only one. Do you think men would nearly kill each other for it if after it was inscribed it went back to the league? Don't think so.

Heh. The Cup's rich history of being used and abused is almost as old as the Cup itself...

There are a few pages elaborating on some of the highlights (lowlights, perhaps?) of the Stanley Cup's long list of abuses... Such as being used for an ashtray, geraniums-pot, popcorn bucket, christening fount and horse-feeder, just to name a few...

And who are you to suggest this? Do you play in the NHL?

People that win the Cup have been doing what ever the hell they want to with it since it came into existence. Thats the whole point of winning it, you're the Champion and you get your trophy with which to do whatever the hell you want. Not doing so would be like winning a Ferrari and just looking at it, whats the point in that? Oh and Draper's kid wasn't the first to do the business in it and probably won't be the last either. If you think they're disrespecting it you're kidding yourself, its probably 10x as sacred to the players as it is to us fans, and what they do with it in the off season is just tradition. They also take it to children's hospitals and use it raise awareness for positive causes in their communities, I suppose you want that to stop as well?

Yeah!!

Let's stop taking it to hospitals too! Those people are sick and might get their germs on it! No, no your right. It should only be displayed. They can put it in a glass case and just carry the case around.

A directive should be issued that someone who has not won a cup, should not be coming up with directives on what to do with the cup.

The best response or comeback to my original post was from Jedi, but, whereas your posts are usually intelligent, this one is ridiculous. Many people have commented on jersey designs, logos, and colors, did you tell them that they have no right to express their opinions because they don't play in the NHL? Ridiculous !!!

If I ever won the F***** I'd start by filling it with Jack Daniels, then dump it out, just so it smelled like booze all day?

Then off to the strip club. <<:::::::::Use your imagination:::::::::::

Off to Toronto on the 401 - Weakly strapped to the top of the truck. Quick trip up and down Yonge Street. 6x each way.

Fill it with olives. Dump 'em. I ******* hate olives. But..........it's mine.

Rub crayon into my name(s). (We can also just assume I've won it 12x.)

Raisin Bran? Nope - Sugar Smacks.

^That would be the first 15 minutes..........................

His was probably the best response, short and to the point, none of your blood, sweat or tears goes into winning the Stanley Cup, you don't make any sacrifices, they can do what they like with the trophy they play over 100 games to win so what if there's an accident or 2, with a trophy that's so old, strange and funny things are bound to happen.

As for commenting on jersey design or logos, its beside the point but I think as fans we can have input, since we do buy the merchandise and wear them.

Apart from the photo developing stuff, that's all been done. Think harder.

If I ever have a day with the Stanley Cup, I'm going to eat an ice cream sundae out of it.

Who are you, who am I, and who are we to tell players and coaches and personnel how to spend their time with the Stanley Cup? They are smart enough people not to just intentionally "destroy" or "lose" it.

I respectfully disagree with you and you are getting worked up over nothing.

I love society:

I am one person who is offended by the acts of another, please change the way things are done and have been done, because I the minority(as in not the majority, having nothing to do with race) am bothered by the fact some one desecrated a trophy I will never have the pleasure or privilege to compete for.

I agree, the guys are just enjoying the fruits of their victory. Also, Stevie has said that something similar to what happened with Drapes happened once when he had the cup - so I guess Stevie just did it for the media attention - we all know how important it is to him to be in the spotlight.

"Stoney: I'm sure that they'll act with more decorum than Draper's daughter...

Yzerman: Heh heh, actually, you know, I had an episode like that when my daughter was young, too, so be careful when you drink out of that thing."

For what it's worth: The cup is cleaned thoroughly after each visit, and during the visit if necessary.

Last season the team that won (won't say the name) took the Cup to a hospital to visit a very sick boy. The boy had had a relapse, and the nurse couldn't let the Cup in unless it was sterilized. The keepers asked with what it would be sterilized. The nurse said that it would have to be with alcohol. The keepers replied that the Cup had held alcohol before, and the boy was allowed to have his visit.

I love these stories. Yeah, some are in bad taste, but some are nice and even sweet. Many are funny. Some are creative. The stories get us through the summer when there is little else to talk about between signings.

Besides, it has guards to keep things from getting too out of hand.
