Downey just embarassed himself there. Peters gave him a cheapshot and challenged him, and there was no reason to decline. Lilja would have killed Peters in that situation.

Pathetic showing by Downey. If he still wants to be an enforcer he better make up for that embarassment.

Conklin was great tonight. Quincey and Ericsson looked good, and so did Leino.

Peters is a little *****, and anyone getting on Downys case is crazy, Peters was afraid of an instigator penalty in a preseason game, if he wanted to fight he would've.

You've got that last part backwards. Why would Peters be risking an instigator penalty if it was Downey that skated up to him and crosschecked him in the chest? Syndrome was the guy that wanted no part of it.

That's true. I guess my hate here is for the instigator rule, if it hadnt been in place, I imagine they would've gone. Downey cant be doing that stuff regardless, just like how he should've fought King last year in St Louis when he decided not too.

Franzen was unbelievable tonight. He's playing like a man possessed, I couldn't believe some of the backchecking he was doing. So far it looks like last year was no fluke.

To anyone who thinks Downey dodged a fight tonight, get real... Wings are up 2-0, if Peters wants to change the momentum of the game he can go ahead and drop the gloves first if he really wants to fight. I can't believe people are actually buying into what happened in today's game. Peters LOVES to play the crowd and showboat, Downey... not so much, he's more about business. Peters was giving him the glove shake and Downey stood there for a good 3 seconds waiting for Peters to drop em, why would Downey be the one to engage? He was dumb to let Peters bother him enough and take 2 penalties because of it, but he definitely didn't dodge a fight from Peters.

Downey can barely skate and can't contribute offensively but he doesn't deserve the reputation of being afraid of anyone in this league because he's not.

It's more about his stupid penalties this game for me.

And yes, Franzen looked awesome.

Leino is a real good player, he just makes things happen. He's been chipping in with points in virtually every game. Although he will start in Grand Rapids, its only because we have so much depth on offence. It's a shame that he doesn't start in Detroit because he deserves it with the way he's been playing.

Hudler has been quietly having a very impressive pre-season too, that's nothing new though, I remember he once scored a hat trick in a pre-season game when he was only about 21 (9-0 thumping of Boston if memory serves me correctly). He's played about 6 or so games and would have at least a point per game.

Not sure what's going on with Filppula, he might still be struggling with his thumb injury. Not worried about his general play, but he still isn't taking shots. No SOG today and he would be lucky to be taking 1 a game. It's something he worked on over the summer so I hope he's not going back into his shell.

A few more points, Franzen is unbelievable. Already showing his form to end last season wasn't a fluke as he's been truly dominant in the pre-season. He's scoring goals at will. Downey taking 3 minor penalties today probably wouldn't have impressed Babcock. Good to see Ritola still up with the club, he'll obviously be cut but one of the last cut which is promising for him. Good to see Conklin hit a bit of form after his average form of late, and Quincey played more than Ericsson tonight, do we read anything into that? Is he picking up his play?

Downey is lucky that Peters didn't run at any of our guys or challenge one of our other players after he turned him down for a fight. Peters is a clown who's capable of anything, which is why Downey should have shut him up. That's his job.
