Some of my favorites:

- Lidstrom predicted to win the Norris once out of six possible.

- Zetterberg voted twice as many times as Ovechkin to win Hart.

- Pavel Datsyuk, the current selke winner, gets 0 votes to win the Selke.

- Melrose with 2 votes for Coach of the year.

- Person who predicts Turco as Vezina winner, predicts Lundvquist #4 in for Hart (turco isn't on the list).

- Stars predicted to win the Cup more than we are.

this is so typical of the "experts" wanking off on crosby and still too much expectations for phaneuf...how is it that the wings players year after year show such prominence and prove this...yet the so called "experts " are so wrong every time...i didnt even hear franzens name mentioned when they werer talking about most improved player...flash i the pan??? 4 goals in the pre-season...i think the experts are in 4 a rude awakening....

All this does is show how ridiculously overpayed "analyst" are when, to become one, you really don't have to know much about any sport. All you really need to know what to do is read a teleprompter. Besides, I'm happy with the Wings not being the top pick and everyone saying "Wings will win no matter what" cause that's just not the case and not even the Wings wanna carry that burden.

Besides, Linda Cohn has probably never watched a hockey game in her life!

As sports journalists/analysts, this is part of their job to make predictions and guesses, as well as create some controversy by getting fans riled up with some predictions. It's worked in here.

You want to pick 'em or compare or complain to them about it? Write back to them or apply for a sports journalist job.

It isn't that mind-boggling to pick Crosby for a few things or for the Sharks to finally get over the hump (no pun intended) or the Rangers to make a deep run or for Dallas to possibly unseat Detroit. On paper Detroit has a roster that is second-to-none but the game isn't played on paper and I can bet you recent early round playoff losses aren't easily forgotten even though the Wings won a Cup last year.

You know what makes this even better? Melrose is going to completely screw up. All that "hockey knowledge" will be on full display. He has a completely revamped team, but I predict he will fail. Nothing will make me happier than the day he is fired for wasting so much new talent and all his buddies at ESPN will have to deal with that AND another Wing getting a Selke!

As was said before, EJ Hradek is the only one on the list I really respect. Burnside usually isn't much for loving anything the Wings do, and Buccigross usually makes a decent point and then manages to instantly make up for it by saying something retarded. One person picks Lidstrom for Norris?? These are the same kind of people who sit stone faced in front of the EA simulation to make their predictions, and hey, that Phaneuf guy was on the box, he must be the greatest.

Like has been said before in this thread, I was watching NHL Live the radio show with EJ and Dom Legrecka (sp) last season, and after the Wings won the cup a caller asked about how nobody picked the Wings to win the cup eventhough they had been great for the two previous years. EJ and his co-host both said they did pick the Wings, others didn't, and the reason they don't is for the sake of these very conversations and for the chance of sounding smarter than they are. Look at the predictions for this year, only one person went with the clear cut favorite Red Wings this year and it was EJ, everyone else is looking for an underdog or upset because if it does happen, they look like some super-analyst who looked at factors no one else did, but if they lose, big deal, the Wings were the best team, any idiot could pick them to win it.

Everyone wants to be the one who predicts the downfall of the Wings. It happens every year. It happened after the lockout when they all said the Wings could no longer "buy" thier Cups-- as if they ever had. They all say the Wings are soft after looking at thier passports. They all predict that the Wings will bow out in the first round because thats what happens every year when our soft and old team faces younger, hungrier opponents.

Its all good guys. It makes it really fun shoving it all back in thier faces when our team yet again hoists the Cup.

Nick would have to have either an injury plagued year or be flat out awful to not win it again. Lids on an average day is better than most D men on their best day. Dion may be a big hitter and a solid d-man but no one is what Lids is. Dion will turn out to be another Chris Pronger/Rob Blake kind of guy. Not a knock those are two potential HOFers, but for anyone to take the Norris as you said would take a massive slip from Lids!

I can not believe Campbell had as many votes for the Norris as Lidstrom. Campbell would literally have to put up Coffey-type numbers to beat out Lidstrom, whose defense is easily ten times that of Campbell. Phneuf's defense is very lacking as well, but because he can hit, everyone seems to forget that.
