Well-said and I agree. It's easy to say "oh we'll be fine, we're the Red Wings." I know the Red Wings will be fine, so does everyone else here. That doesn't change how they are playing right now though. The defense is brutal. There is no sugarcoating that anymore. Every single defenseman is playing below their level. I don't know what it is or why it's happening, but Babcock and McCrimmon need to fix it and quickly.

It isn't wrong to question or be concerned about the team you root for. Tonight was pathetic, there's no way around. It's not the end of the world, nor a reason to overract, but this team has major issues. You can only use the "defense will get better" excuse for so long. IMO, we are way past that point already.

The most logical post I have read all night. Some people are screaming Rafalski sucks, this team sucks. They will get it together, and win the centreal as per usual. Its not how you start the regular season, its how you finish the regular season. 68 games left till the playoffs start. They still have the most feared offense in the league and a hell of a Defense too. The captain will speak and the rest will listen

That scf game 5 loss hurt more then this, Ozzie said it before the game, they might play extra hard in this one but this game doesn't hold the same meaning as losing a stanley cup final.

You all need to sit back, and calm the hell down. It's one freaking game. blah blah blah

Let's move onto the next game.

Wrong.

The two calls that gave Pittsburgh a two-man advantage were bulls***. Franzen didn't deserve a penalty whatsoever and Filppula's penalty could be called 1000 times in a game. If Filppula had been hooked in the same manner in that situation with the Red Wings leading 5-2, there is no way the refs make that call. If the Red Wings don't spend a full two minutes killing a 5-on-3, this game is an easy win. That was a huge momentum swing, especially considering the fourth goal was pretty much a result of being shorthanded. Staal's "backcheck" on Datsyuk that led to the winning goal was more of a hook than the s*** they called on Filppula earlier in the game.

Did anyone notice that Samuelsson and Kopecky were on the ice TOGETHER with a one-goal lead and a minute left?

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, and it greatly concerned me.

Believe it or not this defense right now needs Chelios. He is a veteran who has been there and done that.

I thought Lilja was both bad and good tonight. Meech was killing me, however.

All that needs to be said is that Detroit scored 6 goals and LOST THE ******* GAME. I hope tomorrow's practice is a *****.

I couldn't tell by the angle, but it looked like fedotenko pulled datsyuk down. or did he just slipped after the puck got take away from him?

not that any of that excuses otherwise complete defensive breakdown by wings. The only thing I could say is that multiple time different wing players through out the game missed the puck while trying to get it out of their own zone. Not sure if its just poor play or poor ice. IN any case crazy game, better wings lose one like that now, so they don't get too comfortable come play off time...

Everyone just needs to relax, have a beer, pop in the Cup dvd, and forget what happened. The beer helps with that.

The team shouldn't forget tonight, infact, they need to remember it through the end of the season. I'd just like to know that they are as disappointed as we are.

I mean, for most of us, this is our biggest hobby and probably means a little bit too much.

I like to think I'm good with dealing with disappointment, I'm an Ohio State student. Two national championship games later, I'm pretty quick to forgive the Wings.

Yeah, what happened to the Rockets? Used to be a threat to crash the BCS, now they're bad even in the MAC. Disappointing.

Man... this is going to be long...

*cracks a beverage*

First off, Amstutz has lost his knack as a coach. He was once innovative and great at readying an offense, but now, his moves are stale. During the Northern Illinois loss, the color guy for the team said "UT rushes up the middle. It hasn't worked all night, but they keep trying". When the pass isn't working, he relies solely on the run in a small number of offensive looks. It's easy to predict, so defenses have been picking them apart.

Next is the defense. Toledo lost their D coach a few years back, and their new one is awful. The former #1 MAC defense, one that was top-25 nationally, can scarcely be counted on to hold a team under 30. Aside from being ironclad against Michigan, they've been soft.

Last, the conditioning. Far too often, Toledo comes out firing and racks up a decent lead, only to get smoked in the second half. Their conditioning has been just sad- no endurance.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Toledo fan. Opelt is a good QB, Collins is a darn fine RB, and Church can hit like Kronwall, but there is something seriously wrong in the land of Midnight Blue and Gold. Hope the next coach does better.

Which one? Last year's, or the one in 97?

It's a new season, so there's no reason to bring up past successes as an excuse for present failures.

My point was, we're all probably a little too pissed off tonight with something which we had no part in. Probably be better for us to abuse brain cells than bring on early onset cardiac arrest.

Been to at least 20 UT games in my life at the Glass Bowl. I consider them my second team behind OSU. Have some friends who go there, and it seems like the passion for the team has completely died around the city.

I'm hoping the new coach breathes some new life into the team and brings them back to their traditional spot at the top of the MAC and a threat to crack the Top 25.

Lapointe, McCarty, Maltby, Draper, Kocur, Shanny, Ward, Rouse, Yzerman, Vladdy

That's enough for me to forget about the s*** show tonight.

I just think some people need to go to bed, they are getting a bit cranky. They need a warm bottle of milk.

Yeah, the passion for the Rockets is dead. They simply don't put a compelling game on, in the last few years. Putting it another way- from 2000-2006, I made every single home game, including the MAC title game in '01 and '04. I missed 1 in 2007 due to a final the following Monday. This year, I've stayed through the end of one- Fresno State. The others were played too poorly.

It was Staal, and yes it was a hook. I said in an earlier post that the play Staal made to steal the puck from Datsyuk was more of a hook than the call on Filppula earlier that gave the Penguins a 5-on-3 for two minutes. Situational officiating at its finest. It's sad to expect to be constantly shorthanded when your team gets a lead. You know it's coming and there's nothing you can do to prevent it.

It is in a way.

Ozzie played better when there was some competition for the starting job. Now there is none.

which one of the 7 goals was a soft one would you say tonight? most of the time wings would completely fall apart around Osgood. i am not saying he was fantastic, but still... Fleury definately let in a soft one by Hudler, everything else were breakdowns by pens defense. maybe it was just one of those games...
