This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 They weren't just staring...they covered the other players who were also in prime position for scoring a goal. It's not the best situation to be in and that can be looked at (how it came to it) but the defense played it right after he got the puck. People may not like to admit it but that is a clutch save a good goalie is expected to make, and ozzie didn't come to the challenge. I kind of agree and I kind of don't. When Stuart went behind the net to follow the guy looking for the back door pass it was a smart play. The Mule I saw was also covering someone but whoever that 3rd guy was (I'd have to go back and look on the DVR) I just don't remember him being by anyone? What I will agree with is that Osgood should've been hugging that post and if the guy comes out from the corner it should be a pretty simple poke-check. I mean, the guy literally came straight across (parallel to the goal line) from almost the corner. So, I do somewhat agree but regardless... a. Kronwall getting walked at the blueline was piss poor and b. Osgood definitely should be making the stop and holding onto that puck (regardless, that thing was kicked in, plain as day). Truthfully, I've never EVER been an Osgood hater. I've always backed the guy but I think Babs needs to start putting some pressure on him with Conklin. Conklin seems like a very willing and able goalie to step up and win us some games. I just have not been impressed by Osgood and he seems to always play his best when he has pressure from another goalie.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 (edited) I would tempt to say they "weren't bad" up until Stuart, Mule and the other player (don't remember who it was, I think Kronwall) let the one Tampa player walk right in front of Osgood to score their 3rd goal. I mean, 3 guys standing around the peremiter just LOOKING at him and he walks right in front. Then I totally remembered Kronwall getting completely WALKED as he just stood still on the blueline to make it 1-0. Then I remembered, they were just as bad as every other game. Something has to be done about our defense. We can score anywhere from 3-6 goals a game but we give up anywhere from 3-7 goals a game. It's just bad. This team should be scoring the way it is, but it truthfully should be only giving up no more than 4 goals at the ABSOLUTE MOST!!! One good thing I can say about our D is I am loving the way Stuart is fitting in. Too bad his partner, I can't say the same for at the time. I'm just praying that this is sort of like Kronwall's sophomore slump (yes, I know he's not a sophomore but technically this would be his sophomore season INJURY FREE) On the other hand, we only allowed 18 shots on goal, which can be attributed primarily to our defensive play. This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 (edited) I'm still not happy with this game. As Babcock said, the guys still didn't play up to potential and the powerplay bailed us out. My mouth must've been hanging open when Pettinger (I believe) walked in for that last "goal." On another note, I honestly don't know what's going on with the officiating, but it absolutely has to stop. I'm not typically one for conspiracy theories, but it's almost undeniable that something is going on. And I'm not talking about just the Red Wings (although I feel it's hitting us harder than most), but almost every time a team goes up they meet a barrage of penalties. Complete joke. You are right about one thing, it is hitting every team. What you're wrong about is that it's hitting the Wings the most. It's just not. The Wings get their fair share of chances on the PP and have the best PP in the league. Just like in my last post, it's every team, it's ever game. All in all the officiating is a complete joke and its turning real hockey fans away from the game. Part of me wishes I could become a reporter or sports writer so I could get a huge uprising about how bad the hockey officiating is in the NHL. Too bad I can't create webpages. hokike 1 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 relax. LGW whiners have undeniable ability to complain about the game based on one or two plays. TB had less real chances than Detriot real goals.
This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 On the other hand, we only allowed 18 shots on goal, which can be attributed primarily to our defensive play. Yea, you're right about that. Now keep in mind, when I say defense I'm talking TEAM WIDE. When I refer to defense I'm not just referring to our defenseman. In my eyes, forwards coming back, clearing pucks, blocking shots, etc. are all considered "defense". Hell, even our goalie is considered "defense". Now, with that said, our defense has been horrible all season. There just hasn't been a single game I've seen where we have shut down another team defensively. I read a great article by Ross McKeon (Yahoo! Sports hockey writer) and the article basically said the same thing. The Wings defense as a whole has just been mediocre when this should be the best defensive team (along with one of the best offensive teams) in hockey. Now, considering how bad the Wings defense has been we've still been able to win most of our games and this is with the other teams playing their hearts out to see how they match against the Cup Champions. The good thing for Detroit is they have the rest of the season to figure out what is wrong and fix it. The bad thing for the rest of the league is that the Wings have the entire season to fix what is wrong!
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 If the league really is favoring the trailing team, then it probably does hurt the Wings disproportionately, just because they've had the lead so often in their games. But as brutal as the officiating has been, there's still no excuse for the defensive weaknesses this team has shown. Lack of physicality. If a forward skates near the crease with the puck, punch him in the head. I want him balled up on the ice, bleeding from multiple cavities. Fancy-assed puck possession cuteness leading to either turnovers or excruciating stretches when the opposing team seems to have the puck for minutes at a time. Sometimes, the appropriate play is to fire the puck off the glass and get it OUT OF THE F**KING ZONE. Odd-man rushes. Inexcusable when protecting a 3rd period lead. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 On the other hand, we only allowed 18 shots on goal, which can be attributed primarily to our defensive play. Well, there's something to be said for limiting shots but still getting scored on. Giving up a lot of weak shots is better than giving up a handful of huge plays a game and nothing else. For their part, I thought the Wings had a nice second and third, but the first was (dishearteningly) typical Wings play. Featuring turnovers and bad decisions galore, breakouts up the middle into rushing forecheckers and odd man rushes while PKing. They wised up, finished strong, and of course won the game, but I'm not sold on their commitment to D.

I thought our defense was above average that night.
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I have no idea how they could possibly call that a goal, it was clearly kicked. I mean, it was going in anyways, but he kicked it. It shouldn't have counted. At least it didn't matter. Anyways, nice comeback. Almost makes up for last game. Good win.

Yeah, I totally agree, it was on the line, he came in and kicked it with the back of his skate. The fact that they called it the original shooters goal just goes to show you that it was complete bs... Oh well, we won! I just liked a 4-2 score better, actually displays the type of game we played.

I was at the game tonight and I was sittinig two rows from the ice directly on the goal line where the puck was kicked into the goal, yet another missed call. Three wings played with energy while they were on the ice tonight, Malts, Drapes and DMac. I am concerned with the victory tonight as the wings are showing no signs of energy and yet continue to win games, I fear we will ultimately suffer if we do not start playing Red Wings hockey. Talk about an exaggeration. We aren't playing great, but Hossa, Zetterberg, Hudler, and Franzen (for the most part) played hard and very well tonight. If we can get a consistent amount of effort out of most of the team every night, there is no need to worry.
kylee 727 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 i was quite concerned after the first period when i saw the Wings down by two to the lightning of all teams. but, they played hard and pulled off a nice comeback hossa is a beast
withinyouwithoutyou 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 the only reason tampa bay got that last goal was because they were down 2 goals, and the refs are instructed by Bettman to make the games closer and "more exciting"...so by giving TB that goal, they had a shot at tying it and taking it to OT
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 another close game, though we looked a little better than lifeless. mules goal was a f***in beaut, you can tell he really missed playing during his injury. 3 points in two game...sweeeeet. he really has rounded out. is it general consensus that wasnt a goal?? that f***** kicked it right it in, i think. couple good hits though, just wish they werent so few and far between. pavel laid a good check though, always nice to see that. glad to see roberts lose i hate that bastid

Nev 1,085 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 1) So, uh, was that a home game or an away game? 2) Did my eyes deceive me, or did Sammy score with a laser from the point? The rest is just the same - Pav, hank, Hossa & Mule padding their stats, catch-up penalties and too many goals against.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 Sooooooooooooooo, how did Lebda play? He played sparingly (10:24) but wasn't around for any goals against, managed to get a plus while not actually contributing to the Franzen goal, and generally seemed to have a pretty quiet night, which is just fine for third pairing Dman. ilmickeyli 40 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 I don't know if I can stomach this beer league anymore.. It's so pathetically obvious that the league has an issue with the wings.. Between the s*** calls, and the "goal" being allowed -- its no wonder the wings win by one (if they do win). What a f'n joke!

Dude Z had 2 points and 9 SOG, you have to work pretty hard to get 9 SOG. Hudler had a really good game as well. Kronwall didn't look that great, made some mistakes that you know he knows better. I swear to god something is going on with the 5 on 3's for the team thats down. I watch a ton of games and its gotten to the point where you can see it coming. At the very least something was said to the officials, in the past if you were on the PK you had to murder a guy to get another penalty. Now they seem to call nearly anything. Hockey is a difficult game to officiate but if a significant number of fans start to feel like officiating is determining the outcome of these games the NHL has a problem. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 1) So, uh, was that a home game or an away game? Yeah pretty much the same as what happend at the Joe on tuesday... Pens fans over took the wings fans luckily we were able to cover up the LETS GO PENS rather quick with throwing out the LETS GO WINGS. I was impressed with all the pens fans making the trip on a tuesday night.
