Hats off to Kirk Maltby

Without a doubt in my mind, the best Red Wing on the ice tonight was Maltby. He chased down pucks like a rabid dog, caused turnovers, made great checks, had several scoring opportunities, and just generally shined, all with limited ice time. Let's hear it for Kirk for a change.

Yeah, his hard work on the PK spurred the Wings' rally. He played hard and gave the Wings energy when they were struggling.

He isn't here to play a flashy or exciting role. He's here because he works hard, kills penalties like a beast, and is an experienced, capable fourth-liner. I don't consider myself a huge fan of his or anything, but people need to give Malts a break.

True, but Darren has his whole career ahead of him. Maltby, on the other hand, has earned his spot on this roster.

EDIT: Not to say that Helm hasn't, but you know what I mean.

Helm isn't nearly the penalty killer that Maltby is, and rightfully so; he doesn't have over a decade of experience at it.

Edit: Maltby certainly has the edge on helm in experience in general.

I was going to post a similar thread- I was down on Malts a bit this year and last, but he was fantastic tonight and definitely came to the rink wearing a hardhat!

Thumbs up for the fourth line's play tonight- they looked fantastic together... I really hope they can keep this energy and chemistry all year long and into the playoffs.

By the way- anyone else impressed by Maltby's little 3 shots in 2 seconds barrage early on? If those weren't blocked he'd have had another goal, but at least he did make the defenders work their bags off!

best game by maltby all season, i think the entire looked good tonight, but the only player in my mind who stood out more then malts tonight was Z, but that guy is always on. I think if Malts could play every game with the heart and the jump and energy he had tonight it would shut these boards up

Malts was great tonight indeed. The one play I remember was him him the corner while we were killing off a penalty in the second period and he got hit like twice and still got to the puck and was able to make a pass. In addition he killed off a good 10-15 in that corner battling.

He finally had a good game this season, that third line including maltby has been bad so far. Last night doesn't mean that all the problems are worked out, that was a bad team wearing the home jerseys.
