Conklin to start in Dallas; Chelios to debut on Sat

Wings' Conklin to make third straight start at Dallas

Update from Thursday's practice: Ty Conklin will make his third start in a row Friday in Dallas, coach Mike Babcock said. Pavel Datsyuk and Marian Hossa didn't skate, but Babcock said both will play tomorrow. Datsyuk has a sore left ankle, after getting hit with the puck in Wednesday's game, and Hossa is bothered by a sore groin.

...

Chris Chelios said he anticipates making his season debut Saturday in Phoneix.

So I'd say this makes Conklin our current #1 goaltender.

I'd almost bet Osgood is injured, maybe even just slightly.

Why would Babcock make the switch now, after both goalies have been pretty mediocre (Conklin improving, but Ozzy hasn't played)

EDIT: Nevermind. The tone of the OP misled me a bit. It's a B2B and Ozzy will start the next day. Can't really take anything from it because it's a given that they're going to split it anyway.

Wow. Ride the hot goalie maybe? Interesting move.

What hot goalie, Jim...?

Based on Babcock having voiced his contempt for Ozzie's whining (so-called) in the media, perhaps he wants to challenge him to play his way out of the doghouse.

Why he made switch last season (playoff vs. Nashville) ???

I will be honest with you, I want Ozzy (or any Detroit goalie) to be the best goalie in NHL, I want Red Wings to win every year... I have no problem with him, but so far he wasn't so good - let's be honest, he CAN and he SHOULD be better. I want him to be better.

What's your problem? Find you a girlfriend!!!

prolly the same as yours comparing this to last years playoff meltdown... that takes balls to make THAT comparsion... no? i mean it is really not even similar at all other than to bring up a former goalie for the team.

Whatever is happening, does anyone else have the feeling that things are about to turn around? A lot of things appear to be changing, a little bit of drama, and closing in on the halfway point...I smell a turnaround coming.

That's the first thing I thought of too when I read Conklin was going to start. It's back-to-back games anyways, so I was almost certain Ozzie would start against Dallas with his past success. It's an interesting decision to say the least.

<chuckle>

Oz has gotta be chompin' at the bit right about now, eh?

Babs knows what he's doing.....

Oz ain't gonna get any better riding the pine.

Man, I hate these goalie head games. Detroit does this more than any other franchise, I swear.

I figured Oz would start in Dallas for sure. and YES, he does own them. Everybody owns them this year, though.

Dallas could have been a sweet slumpbuster.

Osgood has done better when he has had to work hard to prove himself. This is probably being done to get these guys competitive with each other. Neither has been brilliant but Osgood has lost everyone's confidence obviously. I think its a good move but the coaching staff... play well or sit and watch!

What are you basing this on?

What are you basing this on?

Him being benched for 3 games, him letting in 3 + goals every game, Him being questioned about his play, Articles from the coaches stating that our goal tending blows, and My own personal view on the situation.
