2009 Winter Classic: Red Wings 6, Blackhawks 4

I think since the wings were facing the wind, that had a factor with two bad goals. And if the wings score a ton of goals in the second when the hawks are facing the wind then that obviously was the case. Of Course it doesn't help with bad calls either. Wings will still win this game, the hawks can't hold a lead for s*** against us.

Okay, it's refs 3, linesmen, 1. The linesmen need to rally early in the 2nd period with more too many men calls, debatable offsides and poorly called icings. The refs are going to be looking to maintain their lead with calls on any sort of physicality, ticky-tacky hooks and phantom trips. It's shaping up to be an exciting game in the 2nd annual Winter Classic Officiating Skills Competition.

I love FSN coverage of the Wings.

NBC coverage just sucks. They're too busy pimping out Reebok and Bud Light to let us know why the hell a team is short-handed. The announcers spend too much time with useless chatter and product pimping and not enough time announcing the game. Also, the announcer lack enthusiasm for the game. Cleary got his world rocked from a sweet hit into the Chicago bench and the announcers didn't even seem to react.

They don't know just like us.

I can't believe Bill McQueery made that call against Lilja for roughing.

That call was brutal. If he's going to call that shove on Lilja he's got to make the same call at the other end of the ice when a Blackhawks player did the exact same thing after a whistle.

Of course, I'd rather they don't call that at all, but if you're going to set the precedent -- follow through with it.

Hopefully the refs will give us all the calls in the next period to even the score up. :)

Ladd was the one who pussied away from the fight. Lilja was ready to go.

You do realise they're playing hockey right? You didn't happen to see Eager make Lilja look like a pylon? Thank God for his wicked pugilistic skills or we might be down 3-1. Oh wait...

Disagree. He was looking the wrong way the whole time and looked like he was stuck in neutral trying to follow the play and get over. Lilja got beat but he should've had the post.

Exactly. Lilja got schooled by a nice move (and honestly, I expect better from him), but Conklin should have had the post the entire time, considering Eager's positioning. There's no excuse for that.

ok, first let's settle down. We have been watching at least 3 s***ty calls against us a game because Bettman hates us.

I think we can come back this game, we have been good out there, Hank was good and every offense was generating.

Lilja should play better than this. Stop being overplayed.

We cannot control the officiating but the referee was a s*** doubtless.

40 minutes to play.

Tons of time left. Although the game started slow, when the sides were even strength I thought Detroit carried the play. A couple of posts/crossbars in that first period.

Just need to keep the gameplan simple. I don't think the conditions allow for a lot of pretty plays, so it's got to be kept simple: get the puck on net, look for rebounds and finish ALL of your checks. (I grimaced in the first period when Havlat set himself to get plastered along the penalty box but the Wings' forward turned away at the last second -- a missed opportunity.)

The refs are just trying to match the little contact that a baseball game would have.

NBC has their priorities mixed up.

They are calling the next Superbowl "Historic" because Springsteen is the halftime performer????

I think the game will be remembered more than the halftime, unless the Boss has a wardrobe malfunction and his pants fall down. But I doubt it.

Missing link? HOLY CRAP BEN EAGER IS RIGHT THERE! *waves frantically and points*

Wait, logo? What?

Ha...nice..yea..Reebok is having a Missing Logo Challenge. The Reebok Logo that appears on the neck of every players jersey is apparently missing on one players jersey. Some sort of challenge...prob reebok making a mistake and not wanting to make a new jersey.
