dallas27 7 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Hossa said in an interview postgame that the reason the defence has been so good lately is that the forwards and defence are getting back and helping out the goalies. Goes to show that defence is a TEAM game, not just the goalie's fault. When everyone works hard, the goalie looks better. For the most part, it takes FIVE other mistakes for a goalie to let in a goal.

The Stanley Cup Winning team last year demolished many depleted teams by scores less than tonight? They played very well, and were firing on all cylinders. That WAS the Cup-winning Wings. The Red Wings have played far worse against far lesser opponents this season. Nobody beats the Red Wings when they decide to play like they did tonight. HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Just got back from the game. Haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if it's been brought up, but I can't believe the refs wouldn't allow gloves to be dropped FOUR TIMES. Very exciting game, though. Those are some really good seats ya got there JayUp88! I dressed like Leyland and was in about 100 photos. It was nuts.

He's such a joke, I mean Sammy is getting bad, but Otts tough guy act against us, and then a month or two ago against Boston the s*** he pulls. Two faced ***** - Steve Ott Why wouldn't he go after Kronwall in a blowout game? If Kronwall is willing to make big open ice hits in a blowout game, then Ott has every right to go after him. Again, why wouldn't he? Who is going to stop him on the Wings? The game was over already.

They should have fights in football whenever the quarterback gets sacked too. Or maybe in basketball when someone knocks the ball away. Or maybe in baseball when someone gets tagged out. Great logic to fight just because someone hit your guy. It's hockey, get over it.
skacore 2 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 They should have fights in football whenever the quarterback gets sacked too. Fighting isn't allowed in football. Or maybe in basketball when someone knocks the ball away. Fighting isn't allowed in basketball. Or maybe in baseball when someone gets tagged out. Fighting isn't allowed in baseball. Great logic to fight just because someone hit your guy. Ok, who said anything about fighting in the first place? Kronwall threw a big hit on Ribeiro in the 3rd period of a blowout game, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. But, being a blowout game, I also have no problem with Ott crosschecking Kronwall and letting him know that won't be tolerated. The game was over at that point. It's hockey, get over it. Get over what? I'm agreeing with both actions, the hit was fine, just accept the retaliation as well. You need to get over "it". THAT is hockey.

Or maybe in baseball when someone gets tagged out. Great logic to fight just because someone hit your guy. It's hockey, get over it. You can't allow fighting to be in the game and suggest "attacks" like what Ott did shouldn't occur. They go hand in hand. (see: Bertuzzi/Moore, Mcsorley/Brashear) "Rough stuff" as hockey people call it is "part of the game." If you lay a big hit, especially on a star player, expect to have to answer from someone. It's always been like that. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but Ott was "sticking up for his teammate" in that situation.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Not much to say... Wings have been on a roll of late, they were having a field day out there and just toying with those poor SOBs all night long. Those two games against Chicago seem to be the best thing to happen to Detroit this season. Getting fired up for a big game -- and then having to do it again two nights later -- has provided the energy the Wings have been looking for to recommit to defense while still piling up loads of goals on offense. Ozzie and Conklin have been awesome to boot. Great stuff.
kylee 727 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 the Wings just absolutely dominated the Stars tonight and it was great to see. also: the more i see of Hossa the more iwant him around here long term. Ozzie, you were brilliant.
Yzerman191 37 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Great game overall. The Red Wings were supposed to win this game, and they certainly dominated. No lackluster effort here. Also, I think the Ott hit was completely unnecessary. Kronner nailed the guy on a completely clean hit; he should've had his head up. Players get taught lessons like that all the time. It certainly doesn't warrant a cross-check hard enough to knock an unsuspecting player over. During the play-by-play commentary, Mickey Redmond said that players just didn't do things like that in his day, and I tend to agree. You didn't like a hit? Fine, let the guy know, face-to-face. Don't come up on him from behind and cross check him, then go at him again later on in the game. Absolutely ridiculous. But then again, this is Steve Ott we're talking about... Grim 5 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 I also have no problem with Ott crosschecking Kronwall and letting him know that won't be tolerated. If Downie or McCarty were on the ice, i bet Ott's response wouldve been *significantly* less exhuberant. The guy answered with his stick. thats gutless, no matter how you look at it. It wasnt in the heat of the moment, it wasn't part of the gameplay. Ott deserves at least a game for that. Its almost silly how the league pushes suspensions, but hardly doles out misconducts during games these days.
