Osgood has worst save percentage in the league

The Wings won the Cup twice without a top 10 goalie. They won it with a solid tandem goalie rotation and a stellar D.

Osgood had several seasons in the 90's where he was one of the best goalies in the NHL. In 1998 Ozzie was 5th in wins, 10th in GAA and SV%; he also led the league in GAA and wins in 1995 and in tandem with Vernon had a league low goals against. Mike Vernon was just 5 years removed from a Conn Smythe season when he came to the Wings, and although he was brought in to be a veteran presence and mentor to Oz he still wasn't anything to sneeze at.

No matter how history (mis)remembers it, the Wings were very confident in the quality of their goaltending -- in and of itself and in comparison to the rest of the league -- during the Wings Cup runs.

I am not saying they are crappy hole back water goalies. They were neither porn stars or scrubs. The system worked and it will again if our D pulls their heads out of the jock straps.

THE WINGS NEVER GAVE UP ON D-MAC....WHY WOULD THEY GIVE UP ON OZZY? i hope you people out there will realize that the detroit red wings (for better or worse) stick with their guys! that being said- make conks the number one. get the d-men on the right track. get ozzy right for the playoffs. keep conks as our #1 through the playoffs while we win back to back cups...right?

if osgood saw as many shots as other goalies hed probably have a better percentage.

osgood has always cared about 1 thing- winning. i bet hes the first one at the rink and last one to leave. he will do what he has to do to help this team win back to back cups. hes not a flashy goalie and he never has been. hes not gonna go down as the best goalie of his era, but he is a winner and you guys cant deny that. let him work it out not so that in the playoffs, when it all counts, he will be what he was last post season.

Listen your bang on in many respects. Dump Osgood how soon is now. Conklin you can't make him #1 they tried too and though I do like him as a battler- he's hasn't come up consistently enough. What are the options? Well trade to get a solid guy to platoon him with; such as a Roloson or Halak in Mtl - the latter is starter material given the chance ;and he's abattler like Conklin. Second option go for the gold and trade for top goaltender. Personally platooning Conklin is my preference. I look to what Boston has done with Manny Fernandez and Thomas - they got something going. Anyhow if management thinks that the playoffs with Osgood is an option then things really do stink in Denmark.

Funny stuff. :D

I'm tellin ya, the answer to any/all goaltending problems now and in the future for any team is Demon Goalie. Demon Goalie rules all!!!! :P

And whether we like it or not, Osgood and Conklin are the goalies going into the playoffs. They are still probably going to have a clunker of a game or two along the way as that is to be expected in a long 80+ game season. These things sort themselves out eventually like Osgood and Hasek did, but not until late in the season/playoffs.

Plenty of time still for Osgood and Conklin to ante up their games and figure out who to ride the pine with for the playoffs. Plenty of time for the defense to improve as well.

I think people should be more upset with the play of Kronwall lately more than Osgood.

I don't know, I guess with the addition of Stuart late last season and Hossa I just thought we would see a fun Detroit Red Wings team to watch this season. I think a lot of other people did too and it's hard to watch them struggle like this.

But the Wings are third in the league in points so we really shouldn't be complaining so much.

People have short memories.

1. Hasek. They spent the money to get the BIGGEST name goalie available. Also threw money at Curtis Joseph.

2. He won us a cup last year with 2 shutouts in the hugest games. You said it yourself. Stole that series by getting the Wings up 2-0. Endgame.

Yes, and though I didn't go into detail about Hasek I was saying that in 02 he was at the top of his game so I could see why they spent the money on him.

I never thought Cujo was an elite goalie though, and he proved that in his time here.

Also, yes Ozzy had 2 shutouts in big games, but that is not his normal game, he is just not an elite goalie. I do agree with people about having great D, but personally I would rather lose a top 4 forward and get an elite goalie.

Maybe that is just because I play and I see that having an elite goalie matters more than having tons of offense.

Example: The best player on my team had to leave after the first period. We were tied. My team stepped up and managed to score 2 more goals after he left. However, we lost because our goalie couldn't keep the puck out of the net on routine saves. In this case, having an elite goalie would have saved us the game.

I originally said that I'm not questioning Holland, I do trust that he is getting a great deal on the goaltenders which we have gotten, but seriously we are lucky that Ozzy stepped up his game last season, b/c Hasek (the starter) blew it and almost lost us the cup.

Here is a quote from this article:(http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=407534) from Ryan Clowe:

"We have the puck a lot and we like to play in their end as much as possible. That's why the other team doesn't get as many shots. When we backcheck, it's not just to look around, either. ... But you're going to have breakdowns sometimes, so it's nice to have a goalie like Nabby in there."

-- Ryane Clowe

Confidence in your goalie goes a long way to improving the over-all confidence of the team IMO. We've shown offensively we can find the net with the best of them, Defensively we have struggled a bit compared to most seasons but we are still not that bad, Our glaring weakness is clearly the lack of quality goaltending. If Dallas can finally start to get their game back... and they have sucked large balls so far, then I believe we can and will find our 'A' game but it will have to start with getting solid goal tending consistently and I don't care who it comes from... Even if Kenny holland came out of retirement and gave it to us.

Doesn't Clowe's statement sound like what has been said by Red Wings in the past when having that solid type of goal tending?

Its been awhile since I have posted, I was at the game Monday and watched Ozzie live and one thing is certain the first 2 goals were soft but that has been his problem all year is letting in goals early in games. As for the team as a whole that look out of sink on the ice Blues flat out, out skated the Wings something needs to change weather it is defense play better or leave Conklin in the net if Ozzie doesn't find his game ( God what a signing Hossa was WOW) :siren:
