Inultus 12 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 All I will say is that I'm so glad tonight's game is on FSN-D because listening to the Nashville announcers is a lesson in pain.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Try watching a Blue Jackets game on FSN Ohio, youll appreciate Ken and Mickey. Side note, Mickey is part of an interesting Red Wings trivia question.Mickey Redmond and Steve Yzerman are the only Red Wings in history with back to back 50 goal seasons (Stevie actually had back to back 60 goal seasons). Ugh. The C-bus guys are awful.
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Jim Fox is the worst of the worst of the worst. Jesus, that guy is annoying. I will say though that Holy Jumpin!!! Panger is cool.

Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Ya they are pretty good. Love listening to them. And like pointed out in original post sometimes they get annoying during some penalties. And the only thing I can point out right now that I HATE about the duck guys is that every single time scotty hits the ice they drool about his skating .. Dano33 41 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Ken LOVES mentioning the rule changes. Someone mentioned the commercial thing. When the trapezoid was new, he couldn't help but mention it every time a goalie touched the puck. When D-men take shots he says "64-footer". Overall i think these two guys are great together, they just need to do somethin with Murph and Keating.

And sorry, but I really cannot stand the Ducks announcers. Seriously. You've got rid of Burke, May, the Niederweiners are coming up on the end of a contract. Trade Pronger for some young D, ditch your current broadcast crew. Please?
Blueliner 69 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Try watching a Blue Jackets game on FSN Ohio, youll appreciate Ken and Mickey. omg, those guys are bad (even though Danny Gare was the captain before Stevie). I usually watch the jackets when they are on tv and I can't stand them.
hallelujahlogic 1 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 ok. mick is pretty much my idol. i'm very seriously considering getting a mickey redmond tattoo. i love when he gets mad at the officiating, i love his mickeyisms, that aside..he gives GREAT colour. best in the business, as far as i can tell. and i ALWAYS have a ginger ale for him. i was thinking about baking him some gluten-free cookies and sending him to them via-mail, but if someone i didn't know sent me cookies through the mail, i wouldn't eat them. i have to assume everyone else in the world is the same way. i think ken's pretty great too. great to listen to, not confusing, very knowledgeble. he and mick work so well w/each other, too. they make what they do look effortless. i LOVE john keating. i don't get all the hate! that guy's absolutely hilarious! when they have him and murph together at intermission, i usually end up laughing so hard i tear up. i also like murph between the benches, but he's definitely not ready to take over for mick anytime soon. hopefully he won't have to for a loooong time. mickey york is pretty boring, but not terrible. trevor thompson is good, i like him. is that all of 'em? Nev 1,085 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Absolutely love them both. Mickey is like your favourite uncle/grandad - you can just imagine him playing around with the young kids at a family get-together and telling them all kinds of tall stories. Daniels is a good play-by-play man and really knows his stuff around the league. Serious question: What chance either (or both) getting into the HHOF in the broadcast section? Redmond has been doing the Wings TV since forever and Daniels has done coaches corner & HNIC from back in the day. As for dreadful commentary crews, add Philly to CBJ & NSH. Unlike the latter 2 which treat their audience like uneducated hockey novices, as well as being total homers, the Philly crew are like a cross between the Broad Street Bullies, and Philly fans in general. Remember watching a game against the Rangers a couple of years ago and Philly were gooning it up big style - after each (highly merited) Flyers penalty the commentators were weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth like it was the greatest injustice in history. Know your audience I guess I'd like to also say I enjoyed the Washington crew when we played the Caps the other week. They had really boned up on the Wings and knew all our strengths and weaknesses from this season, as well as giving us a lot of praise.

Carman 387 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 FSN Detroit makes Red Wings hockey. Couldn't agree more, I'm having a hard time imagining it getting any better Granted, I can't say that I've experienced many other cities, and their broadcasters, but hell I'd rather listen to a Ricky Martin album then listening to the Versus announcers try to come up with anything even remotely coherent about the game. Broken 16 381 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 I like Ken and Mickey. I still miss Dave Strader a little. Him and Mickey used to crack each other up BIG TIME. Really... this is all smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that I'm using this thread as an opportunity to proclaim my lifelong hatred for Don Cherry, Kelly Hrudey and, to a lesser extent, Ron MacLean. steveyzerman 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 I'll tell you one thing. My wife watches the game with me here & there. One day, it was on VS. & she said, "These guys are terrible! What happened to the excitement?" That's when I realized that when I'm alone I cheer with Ken & Mickey. But when it's on VS. it's so mundane. I love Ken & Mickey. They're the Datsyuk & Zetterberg of announcers. They're the perfect balance of homerism & nonhomerism. They'll let you know when there's a lame penalty that was called or when one wasn't either way. But they'll be happier if its in the Wings favor. I love them.
steveyzerman 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 FSN Detroit makes Red Wings hockey. I've never enjoyed a broadcast as much. Even on road trips when Mickey's not there, I'm bummed. Speaking of broadcasts, remember PASS? Haha.

hallelujahlogic 1 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) i LOVE ken and mick, especially mick. he tells it like it is and isnt afraid of the consequences im surprised hallelujah hasnt commented yet, she loves em! haha! oh, but i have! Damned well better be Vernors, HL. Or something hard. if i'm drinking ginger ale, you bet your ass it's vernors. nothing else tastes like home! haha...but typically i'm drinking "ginger ale", mick's got celiac's disease and so he can't drink most beers. i pick up his slack. it's a tough, thankless job, but someone has to do it. also! look for me on the fsn broadcasts of the games on the 20th and 28th! i'll be wearing my redmond jersey! oh one last mick thing: through some incredible act of coincidence, i live w/in walking distance of the bar/restaurant he owns. it opened up a few years ago, much to my elation. it's like..a mickey redmond theme restaurant. look at this freaking menu: http://www.thebroadcastbooth.net/menu/ it's attached to the mickey redmond travel and tourism building. if you're ever in allen park, you should stop in for some "katie bar the door chili" or a "bingo bango sandwich". or just pick up an exclusive mickey redmond bobblehead. one day, i'm gonna meet him. and on that day, i will no longer fear death. adtthosa 5 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 I like them, generally. Columbus definitely has the worst commentators in the league. I dread the games with Columbus because for some reason, Centre Ice always uses the Columbus feed. I also hate Boston's commentators, they're huge homers. seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 I've never understood the knock on Mickey that he's a homer. Sure he complains when bad calls happen to the Wings, but he does the same "I can't believe it" laugh when it happens to the other team too. The thing I think I like most about them is that you can tell they both like hockey as most of us think it's meant to be played, and they're not afraid to go against the NHL's new vision of the game I guess. redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 ken and mick rock! mick can be a little nutty but it keeps things interesting. they both have a deep knowlege of the red wings and hockey in general. i don't think u can find a better tandom out there. btw i also like the wings radio announcers ken kal and paul woods. the wings overall have a great group of people working for them. ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Oh man I love em, especially Mickey. You can tell Mickey just says what he wants to say when he wants to say it. These are two great guys, can't imagine Red Wings hockey without em.
GROwl 5 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 My pre-teen son was whining about something - i.e., nothing - one day. My daughter (even younger) yelled at him in disgust. "Ryan, stop creating such a hullabaloo!" She then looked at my spouse and me. "Mickey Redmond taught me that." We about wet our pants. Sure enough, later that night, Mickey was talking about some hullabloo a player was causing about a penalty.
