Milestone for Sammy

The win over Nashville Tues night marked the 250th regular seaon game for Sammy.

Although the brunt of many 'trade him now threads', he has been a steady player the

4 years he has been here. In that time he has 62G + 91A for 153pts. He is a +54 rate

and has 132pims. In my opinion I feel he has done a good job for the Wings for the

contract he is on. In the main he has operated as a 2/3 line forward but is seeing some

time on the 2nd PP unit. 21 of his goals have come on the PP. There are some teams

that would like that kind of production from some of their top line players.

In fact if you take the guys that came on the scene 4 yrs ago, Mule, Flip, Huds, Cleary &

Sammy it may surprise some that out of these 5 Samuelsson has the best ppg ratio of all.

I just feel that he is underrated by some Wings fans and felt the need to write this up.

This could be his last season here and as the saying goes, 'you don't know what you've

got until you lose it'.

Did you guys watch the game against Nashville the other night?

At least twice I saw him pass the puck to nobody, and out of the zone, on the PP. Even Ken mentioned the fact that he'd done it twice. Then he was back to his old self taking shots on the PP with about 4 guys in the way that were blocked of course. This time even Mick said something about the poor shot directly leading to a turnover.

Good post. It's like Eddie Olczyk said the other night about Draper and Maltby. Something like, "you accept your role and you play it as best you can". Sammy has done just that. In spite of the fact that I've bitched about him too he's done everything he's been asked to do and did it a helluva lot better than I would have thought. So thanks for the stats.

And shut my mouth! ^_^

I'm on the Sammy bandwagon.

The first game of the SCF, he had the puck, and I said to my friend who doesn't follow hockey, but invited me over because she got the channel they were on, "Don't give the puck to Sammy. He can't score." Then he scored. Then he got the puck again as I was telling my friend how bad Sammy is, and how that goal was a fluke. He scored again. I started actually noticing him. Before he had just been a blip on the ice as I was watching others.

I am now a big fan of Sammy, and I hope we get him back next year, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for everything, and good luck wherever you go at seasons end. But I have not, and will never be a Sammy fan. Solid role player, and will probably make good $$ this off season, but there's just something about his face that makes me want to punch it.

I can't believe some of you effers are still busting on Samuelsson. I guess those two goals in game 1 against Pittsburgh last spring meant nothing. I got news for you guys. Not every player on the team can be a superstar. Samuellson has a specific role on this team and I think he does fine. Cut him some slack.

Besides I thought Kopecky was the designated scapegoat this season.

I used to be on the bashing Sammy bandwagon, I have to admit. But he has been great in the past two seasons and he's an important part of the team. There are few players of his quality that we could get for the salary that he makes. I'd like to see him back next year, if at all possible.

Sammy is showing an amazing burst of potential. Does he make mistakes? Absolutely. What players on our team DOESN'T make mistakes? He may make them more frequently - but for the effort he puts out on the ice and what he pay him.. Sammy is, quite literally, a bargain.

Congratulations, Sammy. Even though some LGWers can't stand you, I happen to think you're a great addition to our team.

Keep chuggin'!

I've gone from the "I can't stand Sammy" to the "I don't particular care for him" category.

He has been pretty decent considering the role he plays and the money he makes. If we had not gotten Hossa I would have pretty much guaranteed Sammy would be resigned again for no other reason than you already know what he can do and you can't say that for someone else you might try to sign for relatively cheap.

I'm still not ruling out his return, he just might choose to accept less money to stay. I don't think he'd get a much better offer from any other team.

I did have a watchful eye on him during last year's playoff run and I have to say he did play pretty well.

He makes the most mistakes by far, "more frequently" doesn't really explain it. He may put up good numbers for the money he is paid, but his decision making hurts the team. When he hangs on to the puck to long or just shoots randomly he is taking away potential scoring chances for the team. He can be replaced.

Red wings fans expect a team full of datsyuks and zetterbergs. I can name a handful of players on each team I'd rather NOT have over Sammy, especially for the price we're paying him. People should just get off his nuts and just appreciate him for what he brought to our team. Remember when he scored not one but two goals in game 1 against the pens? Remember how else he helped us during the playoff run the year before that? Like it or not, he's also a member of the Triple Gold Club as well, so he knows what it takes to win big games. I will forever support Sammy as long as he's in the winged wheel. I don't see how some of you guys just support our best players but not our team as a whole.

Give the guy some love eh?
