Quincey

After watching Lebda's injury, I started to think about our prospect D-men. I'm sure that if Ericcson wasn't hurt, he'd be taking a shot tomorrow instead of Meech. And then I started to become curious to know how Quincey's been doing in LA. I just checked out his stats, and he's playing extremely well. He's ranked 25th out of all D men in Points (29), 14th in Assists (26), and 77th in Goals (3). He even has a +/- 2! I seriously think that when he was picked off of waivers, it was probably the best thing for him.

With how deep our D lines are, I know that he wouldn't have had that opportunity to perform like he has, and I'm just very glad to see that he has an opportunity to shine. With that being said, I can't wait to see how great our prospects truly are (hopefully during the playoffs where the salary cap doesn't factor in). Leino's and Helm have been on Fuego, and s***'s only going to get better!

He's doing much better than I ever imagined. Of course the entire Kings team has played better than I think anyone imagined.

2 rookie goalies, Drew Doughty's emergence.

Figure in injury to Jack Johnson and Quincey has found himself with oodles of ice time and good power play time too. I never expected that.

Of course, even with the Wings suffering injuries. Quincey would still have time cracking big minutes and his PP time would be near non existant.

He has a good spot now on LA and good for him for taking advantage of it.

I'm also happy for Quincey, glad to see him get his chance and make something of it...just unfortunate that we weren't able to fit him into the mix and enjoy his talents in Detroit, but that's the way it goes when you're deep.

As for Leino, you're right, he's off to a great start, glad to see him producing. I think he's going to be a great player....Helm, however, has not been 'on fuego'. He's been OK, but still no points yet, and plenty of giveaways. I like this player alot, but lets not say he's on fuego until he puts up a point. One thing I am really liking out of him, however, is his energy...lots of hits, and good hustle around the puck. He's going to be good...

He would still be a nobody if he were retained by the Wings. Quincey gets more PP time than any of Kronwall, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Hossa. Im not trying to take anything away from Quincey - I liked him when he was here - but he'd be lucky to see ANY PP time on this team, or most teams. He certainly wouldn't be a first PP unit fixture on almost any other team in the league. Hes literally in the most ideal position he could be in across the league.

That!

Same with the Flieschman and Green threads, if any of those players had stayed or ended up on the Wings they would not be the player they are today, due to the fact that they would get a very small fraction of the ice time they are getting on lesser teams.

Keeping those guys would have probably kept them either as a 13th forward or 7th D as it is while on a team like the Kings Quincey gets top pairing kind of minutes. If Quincey is on this team still he is Derek Meech, he doesn't play over Lilja and Lebda and Cheli.

These threads are really moot, as far as point goes, these guys would never have the minutes and in turn the success in the Wings org as fast as they will on lesser clubs!!

I think it's a shame that the Wings essentially lost Quincey because of the Chelios signing. Clearly, Quincey would not be putting up those numbers with the Red Wings, but he's a good player that would bring some extra toughness to the blueline that right now only Lilja provides. I would simply be satisfied with him being a plus player stay at home defensemen on the Wings.

That said I'm happy he got an opportunity to prove himself in an ideal situation.

And to think the Wings brass considers him the weakest of our prospects we had the option of letting go.

We have a bright future.

Exactly my point. I mentioned about Quincey not because we need him, just very happy for the guy. Since he was the "expendable" one at the beginning of the season, it just gives me great confidence in the guys we got in the up and coming.

LA and Edmonton game gettin' a little chippy! Just had a scrap behind the net and Quincey was challenging guys to drop 'em! Punched some Oiler in the face to try and get him to go!

Go Kyle!

Update: Ivanans and Stortini just went! Good game!

Ain't that the truth.

Would I have liked to keep him here? Sure. Honestly though, the disdain for not being able to keep him on here went through the roof pretty badly I think. Let's face it, his playing time was going to be slim/minimal. He's in a better situation for himself at Los Angeles right now with more playing time.

:chug: to Quincey!

Date / Time Away / Home Team Away / Home Player

Sep 30, 2008 Detroit Red Wings Kyle Quincey

2pd 09:23 Montreal Canadiens Greg Stewart

Someone needs to do their homework - it wasn't much of a fight, but enough to get him his "first FM of his NHL career."

That's preseason, check the font on the wings jerseys.

Yep, an ugly thought. Horrible if you will.

We lost a top four defenceman for nothing, absolutely nothing.

A top four defenseman now with the Kings, but you know he wasn't going to get that ice time in Detroit. At least not this season.

I dont consider anything in pre-season worthy of your first career nhl anything. No-one keeps track or cares about what happens in pre-season. If that was the case the lions would be in the superbowl.

im just glad quincey is making it look like a mistake letting him go, and proving everyone wrong. I am aware he wouldn't be doing what he is if he was still with the wings, but he is showing he is quite capable and LA seems to be the perfect fit for him

I don't necessarily think it was a mistake. They decided to keep a mix of youth and age. I am just as glad as everyone the Quincey is doing well though and proving everyone that the Wings know how to draft D-men better than anyone. We unfortunately can't keep everyone we draft.
