shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 I found this kind of odd. It makes me wonder if there is way more to the story then anyone knows right now. Maybe some major issues in his personal life. Also makes me wonder if they are getting ready to trade him. Wish him well.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 I can't stand him. He's a lazy, selfish prima donna and it was a matter of time before this happened. Whenever Koivu is in, Kovalev goes missing. Just get rid of the useless dog. He'll be playing in Russia soon anyway.
miller76 463 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 Maybe they are getting ready to trade him. He's making 4.5 million dollars this year. I wonder who would be willing to take that paycheck on for someone who is struggling like him.
StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 Considering Montreal's top scorer is a perennial 50-point defenseman I'm not sure benching top offensive players is a great idea. Kovalev is 35, I doubt he's suddenly going to start learning lessons about hard work from being sat out. Strange decision, I also wouldn't be surprised if there is more behind this. Statts 4 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Either a trade, or a wake up call. I'll say the latter. As a team the habs have been pretty bad lately. EDIT: maybe Schneider wanted his old number back. Edited February 18, 2009 by Statts
Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 more on Kovalev.... http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/mtl090217a.html Kovalev parting ways? TheFourthPeriod.com As the Montreal Canadiens continue to struggle in their battle for home-ice advantage in this year's playoffs, it appears the team has become fed up with the recent play for All-Star Alex Kovalev. Kovalev, who can become an unrestricted free agent at season's end, has performed poorly of late and Habs GM Bob Gainey told the Montreal Gazette the team has no need for Kovalev's services the way he's currently playing. Gainey announced that Kovalev would not be joining the Canadiens for its road trip to Washington and Pittsburgh, and might not make it back into the lineup for Saturday's home game against Ottawa. Kovalev hasn't asked for a trade, but Gainey hinted that "this is the trading season." "Nobody has talked to me about him," Gainey told the Gazette. The Canadiens acquired veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider from the Atlanta Thrashers yesterday and are still believed to be in the market for a top-line forward or a second-line center. The Habs have been linked to showing interest in Phoenix's Olli Jokinen and Colorado's Ryan Smyth, who has a no-trade clause.
theman19 47 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) When he wants to be he's among the best players in the game, when he doens't he's among the worst. He's very jagr like that. If he lands somewhere other than MTL he'll be fine. I'll say this, Montreal and Russians don't seem to mix, they sent down one of the brothers and now Kovalev,.....Remember Samsanov? He was doing much worse than Kovo and manged to resurect his career in Carolina. Also more than anything this shows what a total joke the all star game is. AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) They also sent down Sergei Kostystin. I can only imagine what kind of BS is going on in that locker room. From that tremendous All-Star performance to THIS? What a joke. This guy has all the skills in the world and he just doesn't want it that badly. He reminds me a lot of Feds. You know he could take over any game he wanted to, just a matter of him WANTING TO. AND HE IS THEIR CAPTAIN!! Captain of a sinking ship. Have you seen him play recently? Going by this post alone, it seems you haven't seen much of him lately. They also sent down Sergei Kostystin. Whenever Koivu is in, Kovalev goes missing. Just get rid of the useless dog. He'll be playing in Russia soon anyway. Yet the dumb ass fans in Montreal still voted him to start the ASG. Really puts things into perspective on what a joke the ASG is doesn't it? Oh well, at least they still have Robert Lang. He doesn't fit any of those descriptions in your post. mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Interesting link. I very very much doubt Bob Gainey would send Kovalev away for a pair of games if he wasn't 100 per cent sure the player was hurting the team otherwise.
