Trade Deadline

I really hope the Wings get a goalie before the trade deadline. What goalies are out there right now, that are quality goaltenders do you see the wings possibly getting. I have heard rumors about aquiring Toskala from the Maple Leafs and after seeing him stand on his head playing the Rangers last week, I would be thrilled if they got him. So what do you think?

To be honest I can't see any goalie out there becoming a Wing by the trade deadline. We have little to no room to work with the cap. And I feel that Kenny is working very hard to keep Hossa Franzen and Hudler. I don't think there will be any new goalies in the winged wheel come March 5th

A goaltending change (like bringing in a guy brand new from today) would kill the team, we'd be out in the first round, a goal is like a pitcher in baseball, they are the focus of a lot of the teams chemistry...its not like the video games where you take anyone and put them anywhere, you need the people to work together and get along, ever wonder why when Emery went wild Ottawa went off the deep end?

We're more likely to go after a capable back-up for Conklin, not a starting goalie to replace him.

Yeah, I can't see them getting a goalie. With so little cap space left, they'd have to trade a significant piece that makes money to get any goalie worth a damn. I just don't see them doing it.

Im not sure what there plans are for Ozzy?\ But Conklin has been just what we need thus far and I think if he gets the start come playoff time he will do his job and then some...The D however needs to step it up some.

Agreed, I hope they get somebody before the deadline or (Conks gets to start the playoffs)I can't see osgood doing it, some games you

could get a beachball by him.so yes we need an upgrade in net or no cup.

The 2006 playoffs say otherwise, although I think we'll be fine with Ozzie and Conklin anyway.

Wings will trade Osgood to Vancouver for Luongo, Sundin, and the Canucks to eat all three salaries so we can trade Flip for 500,000 pizzas.

Agreed, no way we go after a goalie, too many chemistry problems and we would have to blow up major portions of the team either this season with the team or with guys that we couldn't sign in the off season. I sure don't see any way we go after a goalie that we will have to give a fair bit up to get, who has never played a game with this team or in this system (with only 22 games left in the season) and has only played 11 playoff games in his career. There is no way that Kenny says, "Hey we have the 3rd best record in the league, lets trade away talent or future for a goalie who will have almost no time to get to know our team or system, has never proven himself in the playoffs, has never had the pressure of coming into the defending Cup champions locker room and and playing the "savior" (which we don't really need) for a team and city that is notoriously hard on a goalie. What they heck its a huge gamble but maybe it will work out." There is no way that he does this - this is (in my opinion) something that you try on NHL 2009 but not in real life and not something that any GM in Holland's position would ever even consider doing. You're going to tell Conks thanks for all the wins and shutouts this year but were going to go with a different unproven guy who hasn't played with the team or Ozzy (yeah I know he hasn't been good this year) I know you have 3 Cups and tons of playoff experience but I just wanted to make a trade.

The only thing that I think we might get is a veteran 4th line grit guy (like has been discussed in numerous threads).

If you're talking about Cam Ward that is not the same thing. Cam Ward was drafted by Carolina in 2002 stayed within the organization and played 28 regular season games for Carolina that year. He was with the team the whole year and had chemistry, he had gone on the road trips, been through the injuries and the slumps. It's true that he didn't start the playoffs but he played with the team the whole year which would not be the case with a guy brought in with 22 games left in the season (and there would be quite a few less than that by the time a trade could actually be made, the player passed the physical, joined the team and started a game).

I'd like to see another defenseman.

Lidstrom

Rafalski

Kronwall

Lilja

Stuart

Lebda

Chelios

Stuart is injured, and Chelios is a shadow, of a shadow, of a shadow of himself. He can't even skate anymore.

There will be no deadline deal for a goalie. The Wings organization still believes Osgood can pull through and Conks is playing the best hockey of his career. It would be stupid for the Wings to mess with the goalie situation during the season. Wait until the off season.

That was one game. Toskala's been awful this year. Might as well try and get Lalime from Buffalo. I'm sure he's had at least one good game in his career (although, I can't verify that :P).

Cheli may not be a defensive liability like he used to be anymore, but a few games ago we all saw him going faster than ever. Come on, he's not THAT bad.

I would think the Redwings if they wanted to get a goalie would try to get: Toskala, Roloson, or Raycroft ( if he's available). But, thats if the redwings need a goalie =P

Come on now. All three of those goalies are horrible. There are only two on the list I could get excited about.

1. Backstrom

2. Craig Anderson

is backstrom even available? Minnesota would not trade Backstrom, they are in the right in the middle of the playoff picture.

Yes, Toskala has had a bad year, but he's far from being a horrible goalie. Roloson has owned the Sharks since the 06 playoffs. HE has always stolen games from the Sharks, he's an average goalie. And isn't Craig Anderson the future of the florida panthers as the goalie?

This board has goalie turretz syndrome. It's not funny or frustrating anymore. It's just straightup depressing to think there are so many people out there who have the audacity to think they're bringing some fresh and worthwhile to the table. It's like the board is stuck in a Groundhog Day style timeloop every day with this stuff...

Minnesota is going to be on the fence again this year. Depending on what there chances of going deep into the playoffs, they may deal Backstrom and get something for him at the deadline. Instead of taking the chance of losing him to free agency at the end of the season. Minnesota's braintrust isn't exactly stellar. They have a bad track record when it comes to letting players go for nothing. For example, Demitra and Rolston had little to no return. Gaborik will likely follow suit. Doug Risebrough is probably the worst GM in the league. I bet if Detroit dangled someone like Franzen out in front of them, they may jump on it. Minnesota is dying for somebody to start shooting the puck there.

And as for Craig Anderson, who's to accurately say what the future of Florida is. I dont believe even Florida knows that. Anderson is real good trade bait. Plus Florida isn't going to pay another goaltender when they got Vokoun signed for 5.7 next season and 6.3 the following season. My guess is they deal Anderson for a forward.
