Tonight's a special case that should be disregarded. My guess is that kopy was playing with emotion due to hossa's injury, and babcock played into it.... Kopy being on the ice at that time (during special teams play) is evidence of it.

Where does it say we should disregard it? Why can't we just enjoy what he accomplished and hope it happens again? Even if he was inspired by what happened to Hossa, is there any reason why he can't find inspiration elsewhere? And if it doesn't happen again even soon, we can still hope that he gets more confidence in himself and moves on to bigger and better play.

Meanwhile, somebody didn't clean the feathers off very well and I'm....

cough, cough.....hack, hack....

AND GO, FLIP!! KEEP SHOOTING TOWARD THE NET!!!!!

One good night amongst a season of flop does not a good player make.

I think you can afford to give the kid some credit, just like you've quickly sprung for criticism in the past, and to admit that he's got some potential.

What is the meaning of this thread?

Kopecky has sucked all year, and last night was the exception. Is the OP actually criticizing us for being hard on a player who's done nothing all year but take up a roster spot?

Oh noes, he's only 16 pts, 89 hits:38 PIMs, +3, PKs, and a SHG, in under 10 minutes ATOI, while coming off a serious knee injury, at that. That only makes him one of the better performing 4th liners in the league. Frigging loser.

No crow for me. Here's a quote about Kopecky that I posted in a thread about a month ago:

"I keep thinking back to how Kopecky was playing the few weeks before he was injured. He was becoming a physical force on the ice and his ice time was climbing. Whenever someone has a serious knee injury it will often take them up to two years to regain their form, not so much physically as mentally. For those who don't remember him playing well: http://blog.mlive.com/state_sports/2008/04...ps_red_win.html

Considering it hasn't even been a year since he blew his knee out, (April 2, 2008) I think we need to exercise some patience as fans."

It's still only been 11 months since his injury. Ironically, as has time has passed, his play has improved. Honestly, it's pretty amazing that he was only off the ice for 4 months after that surgery.

Here's the old thread, by the way: http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...55650&st=20

Strange how Lazerbeam has been gone since Ozzie came back.

One Ozzie loss and bet he mysteriously appears again.

Ozzie haters ready to get back on the bandwagon now?

It isn't just the Kop issue that deserves some crow. Give another game or two of Flip. :)

Yes. I am sure Bill Ranford will tell us that one shutout means a goalie hasn't slipped to the point where HE SHOULD RETIRE.

Hey thanks, now I don't have to toot my own horn. ;) I made that thread.

With the depth of talent that the Wings have, Wings fans can often be too unappreciative of the talent of our lower liners, or anyone that's not developing into the next Yzerman/Lidstrom/Sawchuck/Howe. See Quincey comments at the end of the off season. We never learn.

Nope. I'm just saying he's had a great two weeks of play and deserves some credit for it. I've always called him useless and clearly I was wrong because he's been rather useful for the last few weeks. That doesn't mean I'm saying he's still not a weak link on this team- just that he deserves some credit for proving some of us wrong (even if it's only temporary :P ).

Those hits usually involve him falling on his ass. And for the last time, we don't need our 4th liners to score points. Their number one priority should be to bring it physically every game for the rest of the players to feed off of that energy.

If you think Kopecky has been doing that, then you haven't been watching much.

No crow here. I've never joined in the Kopecky bashing, which given another season would probably give Boyd Devereaux a run for his money.

On the flip side, one good game and a short string of decent ones don't all of a sudden make his season just that awesome. I think Kopecky can become a quality fourth-liner but I'm not gonna say he's arrived just because he had a good week.

I'll admit I started a thread hating on KOPECKY but he has been great lately. If he could play like this all the time I'd be more than happy to have him a permanant fixture on our squad.

KEEP IT UP TOMAS!!!!!!!!!!!

Another good game. I'm liking the upward progress.

I agree... he's kind of like a more extreme Filppula... his play almost completely dependent on him feeling confident (much more so than your average NHL player).

Is there some way to make Filppula and Kopecky permanently confident?

I've probably been as critical of Kopecky as anybody here. I have to give the man his due. He's played extremly well the past few games. I always draw the comparison to Boyd Deveraux with his ability to fall down on every shift, on every hit, whether giving or receiving. Maybe it's the confidence, maybe it's the knee getting better, but he's actually laid out good hits and hasn't fallen over...all the time in the past few games. Yeah I did notice him getting thrown around like a rag doll in front of the net tonight.

However, I think part of his current success can be attributed to Maltby and Draper getting their heads out of their nether regions and playing like they are capable of. The 4th line is playing the best they have all season, I mean Draper is even scoring, and hell hasn't frozen over.

Kopecky is the closest thing we have to Drake so all we can do is hope he learns to be half of the physical presence that Drake was in the playoffs last year. This is kind of out of the box thinking but maybe a few Yoga or Gymnastic lessons would do the trick to teach him balance.

Might also have something to do with him finally beginning to fully recover from his knee injury and get his legs back into shape... people just don't realize how long term those can be.

Meanwhile, somebody didn't clean the feathers off very well and I'm....

cough, cough.....hack, hack....

Coat in egg, dredge in flour, panfry until brown. Put in a pan with equal parts cream of chicken soup and milk. Cook at 300 for about an hour, until cooked all the way through.

It worked last year when I had to eat Crowhan Franzen. Maybe it'll work this year with Crowpecky.

Yeah, I have been very down on him this year. I'm glad to see that he's turning it up. I think I have been so down on him because I had high hopes for him. I don't follow the Griffs, but I do pay attention to those who do, and many of them were praising him.

Hopefully this is him getting back from his injury, and he will continue to rise.

Kopecky will be watching the playoffs from the press box.

No way. Babcock loves his size and is using him in almost everyone situation now. He may sit a game here or there, but he will definitely play in the playoffs. I think Maltby is more likely to sit.

So... Kopecky. 1 goal, 2 assists and a +2 tonight. He's put 6 points up in his last 5 games. That's a damn nice stretch of hockey for someone almost everyone gave up on.

Yeah- I'll eat my crow for saying Kopecky should be shown out of town. Turns out Kopecky needs confidence and a full season of play to really get up to speed. He looked great out there tonight and has looked great for a few weeks now.

I just hope he can keep this play up until June :D

"(Filppula) has been coming on,'' Babcock said. "The other guy who's been playing outstanding is (Tomas Kopecky). The other guys is Draper, he's been playing great. The last five games he's been excellent.''

If the guys who are playing sub-par (Osgood) turn it up and start playing well, I don't have a problem with eating some crow, hope someone has a bottle of Heinz 57 or something I can borrow....

IF Kopecky continues and actually turns into a consistent worth while hockey player I will quit my career in IT and become a Crow cook & salesmen for the Joe..... "Get your crow heeeeeere. Fresh hot crow heeeeeeere. Anyone? Anyone? The is best Crow in town folks, guaranteed!".

....somehow I am not worried about this quite yet.

Well Babcock has already stated openly that Helm has a roster spot for the playoffs, and also implied that Leino will play in the playoffs. Draper will never be a healthy scratch because of faceoffs. I'd say Maltby has a much higher chance of breaking into that line based on his experience than Kopecky does just because he's gotten a few points in the past 2 weeks.

Helm - Draper - Leino seems like a likely combination to me if Maltby isn't going to play.
