Guest mindfly Report post Posted March 8, 2009 I think it's time for Håkan Andersson to go to russia and siberia to draft some new russian kids, red wings in the 90's had so many russians and it was very successful, wings don't even have a russian in their prospect system (kolosov is from belarus), imagine datsyuk with a few russian buddies to whoop some ass... feels like the caps has got all the russians now... could be hard to get the skilled moscow players cause they go in the 1st round or trade for skilled russians cause most of them cost alot of money, but maybe another outcast in siberia can be found with a lil' andersson magic? Most of you will probably say, like always "blabla nationallity doesnt matter they just gotta fit in the system" but overlook that for a bit, don't you miss some russians though? What does nationality have to do with anything? The best players are the best players regardless of where they come from. I'm pretty sure the Wings scouting staff is second to none. If there are any Russians worth scouting that would fit into our system, they're being scouted.

Glubki 17 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 (edited) I think that Detroit lost its enthusiasm for Russian players after Grigorenko and all the B.S. the Russian Hockey federation has pulled over the past 10 years. Russia can pay it's players as much as the NHL can with the salary cap so drafting them becomes a risk if they don't want to come over. stactum 4 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 I think it's not a bad idea whatsoever. here is the thing: the biggest problem in Russia - they don't have junior leagues, so the only option for developing player is to sit on the bench of the KHL farm clubs. As we all know, it takes some time for players to develop, I'm not talking about Crosby, Ovechkin or Malkin, who pretty much knew they'll end up as NHL superstars and you could see their potential when they were young, not all players like that so if there is a chance somehow to look for that talent when it isn't obvious yet and draft it - it would be pretty sweet. I simplified the system quite a bit, but I think you see my point.

Booster313 138 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 I think we should go to Kazikstan and draft players because... Kazikstan is the greatest country in the world, all other countries are run by little girls...

Guest Shoreline Report post Posted March 9, 2009 Ok so I've been thinking.. You know how Proby was coked up fairly often some time ago? Maybe the team can get a Russian enforcer and spike his gatorade bottle with 75% vodka and watch all hell break out on the opponents. Babs yells from the benches, 'THAT'LL MAKE YOU THINK TWICE ABOUT RUNNING OUR SKILL GUYS'.
puckbags 863 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 Can we trade Mindfly to Russia for a bottle of cheap vodka and a russian mail order bride?

BTW, every time I read threads like this I think about that one thread where people were bitching that there aren't enough North Americans on the team and they don't watch the Wings as much because they can't identify with the players or pronounce their names. I think we should dump everyone save Nick, Hank and Pavs and sign players from Iceland. Or pick a country whose language is virtually unpronounceable to someone not from that country. One, I'd love to see Mick try and say them. Two, I want to see those fans whining and weeping that our team is too finesse and not physical enough. Their pain nourishes me. CenterIce 83 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 I don't know if it has been agreed to, yet. But, the main reason less Russians have been taken over the years is because of the lack of a transfer agreement and Russia not wanting to lose all their star players to the NHL. The next country a lot of people are talking about is Germany.
